Netcode

Every person I spoke to o XBL thinks this game is laggy and I personally think its one of the laggiest games ever made and have seen exactly what your talking about with some of the laggy matches it seems like 2 different games are going on, where you are half way through a combo and then all of a suddon you move to a different place on the screen and they are comboing you.

Also when they cross me up sometimes I see them land and block then they appear the other side and I am blocking wrong way.

lol if they can improve the netcode near ggpo quality, it would be epic. Anyways, let’s not complain for a game that isnt officially released. Tomorrow is a new day.

Perhaps I’m using the word “flawless” just because of how poor SFxT is compared to it. I’m not kidding, in MvC3 I could get out decent combos, in this game it has come down to nothing but pure button mashing because I don’t know if what I press will come out…this game’s online is easily the worst online of any game I have played thus far given how it is for me. That is how bad it is, which is why I can’t believe it when people say the game is really good with online, I’m so curious as to why some people have it great, while others have it bad, and I’m not talking about kind of bad, I mean horrifically bad.

This is exactly what I am talking about…why is the online so bad for some?

As I mentioned before, until you can find a specific person you are playing with and give us some tracert logs of the connection between you two, noones going to be able to answer that question.

We have to make sure theres no routing problems, that the ping between both of you is okay, that there is no packet loss, and that neither you or your opponent are having hardware issues causing latency problems. Most of which can be narrowed down with tracert and ping -t logs.

is it possible that it only seems good because the game hasnt released yet?

not hating or anything. real question

This question cannot be answered (and probably will never be). Realtalk. Wait for release (and the few days after).

I am pretty good with computers and networking and have checked my connection in general and checked my connection to my opponent and even with really low ping no packet loss no jitter there is still bad lag.

So I thought of some reasons why other people may find it “better than street fighter 4”

  1. They lying
  2. They are allways lagging so don’t know any different
  3. They are so hype from getting it early that they are delusional
  4. The game is on servers and I live miles away from it.

I know it can’t be that because I live by NYC, and I know a couple of people around here who don’t have any problem with it… :frowning: I’ll just wait for tomorrow and hope that something is better…if not…I have no idea.

That’s sounds like a rollback, which is exactly what we want instead of the game slowing down and waiting for both players.

All these complaints sound exactly like the same old complaints from back when 3rd Strike Online Edition was released with GGPO.

It’s just the the difference in what people consider lag. Coming from someone who hates input delay and thinks MvC3 is the absolute worst game online, with SF4 being mildly better, SFxT is really really good. If i can dp and whiff punish on reaction then the online is pretty good.

This exactly. The only reason i even touch 3s on xbl is because it uses ggpo. It’s all preference.

I wish I could like Caliagent’s post more than once.

sounds like a lot of people don’t know what ggpo is or how it works. not that this uses ggpo, but it sounds like a somewhat similar idea.

wondering what the delay is set to or if it automatically sets a certain amount of input delay based on the connection.

This is nothing like 3rd strike the main reason being the game does slow down.

The delay is all over the place and some matches have a lot more delay than others.
Some matches you start off with very little delay and then next thing you know its half a second delay on a jump.

Played a few hours online against local players tonight (same city, solid connections), all the matches seemed fine -not much delay at all if any and no rollbacks. It’s definitely waaaay better than MvC3, no contest.

Lag is real bad. If you don’t have an offline scene, you better find an online buddy that lives within 10 miles of you. And dat sound glitch…yikes.

the game does slow down in 3S also if shit is getting real hairy. as long as its a pretty stable connection though it doesnt fluctuate as far as speed except skipping frames to keep in sync.

i wouldn’t freak out too much. i’d wait till the end of the week before im reall concerned. most likely they were tuning stuff up on their end for the inevitable hit tomorrow. after things settle down a bit next week it will likely run a bit more consistent.

i trust billykane on this.

Why can’t every game just copy Blaze Blue’s netcode?

No they cannot and he explained why. The online infrastructure for those games are too different for a valid comparison. May as well compare an apple to an orange

I could do all of these things in SF4, but I can’t do them in SFxT.

But at the end of the day, most people only care about results. I personally don’t give a shit what infrastructure is used. All I see is which game is smooth online and which isn’t. And since they are both fighting games, yes it is valid to compare them.
