Day -1 impression: Best net code I’ve experienced on a 3D console fighting game.

The problem with threads like these is that people have different standards for what kind of lag is acceptable and what isn’t.

Some people absolutely can’t stand input delay whereas others don’t even notice it. Some people don’t even categorize input delay as a form of lag, and instead only call it “lag” when a game literally freezes or hiccups during gameplay.

Hence, these same people don’t care whether SFXT has no input delay. They’ll just see the small frame skipping issues and declare the netcode to be garbage because SF4 didn’t have those issues (at the expense of input delay). The end result is that there’s a lot of confusion because people are throwing the word “lag” around without actually agreeing on the definition. We also can’t agree on what “bad” actually is. Personally, I would gladly take audio glitches and some frame skips if it means we don’t get the lame input-delay based netcode of previous Capcom games. But other people have the opposite opinion.

Back when UMVC3 first came out, there were people who actually claimed that their experience was “lag free”. It just goes to show you that you really don’t know what to expect until you play the game yourself. However, I think the fact that the game uses rollback is a very good sign.

I also prefer audio glitches and some frame skips than some input delay.

So i played some more yesterday, and it felt better than Friday and Saturday. But it was with a guy in my same state, so I know that helped.

He mentioned that he read on the Unity threads that the initial “patch” the early people got was for the battle card / title stuff, and there will apparently be another “day 1” patch on 3/6.

audio bug still there, but that is such a glaring issue that I’m sure Capcom has a fix planned, if not completed already.

the weird thing is, i’m watching arturo playing nerd josh in offline casuals, and i can still hear one of the audio issues clearly. the sfx are working fine, but the bgm is doing that random high pass filtering that it does during online matches.

just let you know being top in leader boards don’t mean shit. it what you do offline and at tourneys against other good players that proves you are the best. this coming from a person you plays online all the time and barely goes to any offline stuff. i am liking the idea of a rollback netcode but i have to test it with a few friends. sucks you can’t seem to change the delay like 3rd strike or ggpo.

I didn’t see anyone say anything as to whether they’re playing on XBL or PSN. Pretty important factors. Because I definitely notice a HUGE difference when playing SSF4:AE 2012 on XBL versus PSN.

Totally agreed. All i know is that this is way better than sf4, and i’m positive that 90% of the population that buys the game will bitch and complain because of the minor frame skipping to keep up with the lag.

im having a totally opposite experience online. it is total ass for me. even full connections are bad. can definitely see frame drops cause moves simply are not coming out for me quite often. i’ve also been hit by attacks that i flat out don’t see animations for. like i faced a balrog and i jumped in, and next thing i know he is in the air headbutting, at the peak of his jump and im getting nailed.

additionally, the sound bug is REALLY annoying the F outta me. i hope there is a patch for this on tuesday.

yea … this game is like SSSSSOOOOOO fucking terrible online for me right now. like i am pressing the lp/lk buttons to throw, and the animation flat out doesnt come out 1/2 the time. same thing is happening in middle of combos and stuff. it’s terrible. and this is on a full connection.

The sound cuts out in online. Not the music, but all the sound effects. It’s really weird and annoying.

Yeah, I’ve experienced this too. Its extremely annoying and the community needs to get on CapCom’s ass to fix it.

If you haven’t placed in a tournament, you’re definitely not worth mentioning as a top player from europe.
I would prefer it if you didn’t throw claims like that around without knowing the implications of it.

I’m having the same experience as both of you. My SF4 and MvC3 were both near flawless (minus a few times when I went into matches with no bars, in which case it was poor). However, with every single match I have been in thus far, the connection is horrible. One time, I did Chun’s Super Art, and I was in the middle of it connecting, and then all of a sudden, it cut to him sweeping me and me falling…wtf was I doing that whole time then? STANDING THERE??? Ugh! I’m so confused as to why some people are having an amazing connection while others are getting so badly screwed. It sucks because I have no idea why many people (like Maximillian) are saying the online is amazing, and yet I can’t even get in a move with all the lag.

Is anyone else experiencing what I am talking about, or would know why that is happening to certain people?

Anywho, friend who got it early says its a little better than ae, and hes been streaming so just have to wait to see for myself.

This thread is about street fighter X tekken online netcode so not sure why you are on about tornements but if you would prefer me to say it different I will do so.

As far as street fighten X tekken online goes I am one of the best players in europe ranked in top 5 last time I checked and also I have over 400 gamerscore so I think I know what I am on about. You can go check leaderboards if you don’t believe me.

Ps this game is terrible online each game tonight has been horrific.
