Netcode

Online patch coming soon?

https://twitter.com/#!/Yoshi_OnoChin/status/179407494362308608

alright so i finally spent an hour or more online and i have mixed results. the first time i went online was the day the game came out and i played one match on ranked. it was so fluid and smooth that the sound glitch didn’t bother me at all. just a few hours ago i had a chance to play online again so i went on endless and boy was it ass. the ping bars were either incorrect or there are some serious server problems. here’s what i noticed:
-only 2 decent matches out of like 20 and i’m stretching it a bit. it was barely decent.
-teleporting almost every second of the match. i was comboing then i wasn’t. my opponent would drop combos and then magically he didn’t.
-one guy i was playing was teleporting most of the time but wasn’t phased and could keep his combos going so the problem was either mostly on my end or he’s just so used to it by now.
-dropped input and input delay. why?
-worst of all is that 3Soe’s online experience was better than this and the ping and matchmaking gui in that game was beyond fucked up.

there were a few seconds here and there where everything was butter but then it went to shit. sf4’s netcode was so shitty that i rarely played online after ssf4 came out but sfxt’s is worse. they aren’t using rollbacks properly but at least they’re finally using them. i really hope they can fix it or at least show proper ping or something. all my ports are forwarded so i don’t know what else i can do to make it better and will have to depend on xbl and capcom to fix it. sucks.

anybody remember the days when ggpo was rather new and the only game you could play was alpha 2? yeah, those were the days and i thought things were going to get better but after 3so and now sfxt, i don’t trust how capcom utilizes rollbacks, even with ggpo. something just isn’t right.

If it’s running decent it should run decent the whole match, if it’s running like crap it should run like crap the whole match.

Inconsistent results like that are typically the sign of people on wireless

stupid history lesson

Spoiler

An upper mid tier ST player back in the day. Now goes by TheKingOfHateHD on SRK. He basically gets ad revenue from Machinima on Youtube playing video games. He thinks or makes himself come across as an S-tier SF player because he placed in EVO East and some early EVO tournies. Generally understands little about new gen Capcom fighters and is generally crap at competitive fighters other than ST now. Loads of Youtube 12-year old fanboys of him.

Anyway, if he only said the netcode was good but buggy.

To everybody that is having problems with the matchmaking try using fight request in arcade mode, works flawless for me , i barely get a chance to start an arcade fight before i get a connection.

i don’t have a choice but to use wireless and when i play on ggpo on pc i have no issues. i have an xbox slim and yes, i use wireless since i’m like 50ft away from a phone jack. having a cord that long going through the whole house is not feasible. could it be the xbox’s wireless card? like i stated in my first post, the very first match i had with the game went perfectly, minus the sound. i’m certainly no expert when it comes to this sort of thing but i went through countless tutorials in forwarding ports to get ggpo to work perfectly and it did. also, my isp is att which i hate and they are installing uverse around the neighborhood and i’m suspicious that they are fucking around with the hub i’m connected to, but i have typically good results to certain people.

I don’t use wireless on PC so I can’t compare, but wireless on both consoles is pretty inconsistent and you should go wired if at all possible - even if you have to run a wire though the house lol. That would be a pretty big wire but even at a distance like that, probably better than wireless on console. On games that update the latency bars quickly you can actually see them fluctuate up and down from 50% to full (SFxT seems to update every 15 or 30 sec or something so you can’t notice this on this game as much).

Setting up DMZ for your console basically forwards all the ports to your console, which is the best bet, if you don’t know how to do that you can just type “DMZ GUIDE <console name>” in to google for a guide on how to do it.

I would try a few more matches though, create your own 2 player lobby and see how it goes with someone 3+ bars, better yet 4. That will give you an idea how things are with a good connection, and if you still get unstable performance it’s probably the wireless in your house/apartment.

I’m on ps3 and the majority of people that come up with I set it to “same” area are 3 bars. And as a rule, I always accept 3-4 bars and run pretty nice - played a couple people who seemed to be lag spiky at times but they were all fairly playable as long as I went 3+. 2 bars can be a gamble (I’ve had some okay 2bars and some horrid 2bars). Never play 1 (my friend was in practice with me while he was downloading a torrent and it was 1 bar and it was unplayable). I’m wired though, never played wireless in this game… although I may have to soon since I’m going out of state next week /shudder.

Also, it could have been interference to your wireless connection. Your router/modem should have the option “Wireless Channel” or something along those lines in its settings. You may want to experiment with that a bit - basically if any other wireless devices are on the same frequency they will cause interference (think like when you are listening to a radio and start getting interference).

This might seem kind of obvious, but make sure you didn’t do something silly by mistake like leave a phone, fan, or anything that can cause interference anywhere near your console. Someone I know couldnt figure out why he got random disconnects, and then realized he stored his phone on the desk right above his reciever, and any time he got calls/texts he lagged lol.

If you ran properly the first game then it could have been other people, or it could have been something silly causing interference, or your isp etc. If it comes and goes try to see under what conditions. It might be something as silly as a room mate/relative having a phone that interferes with your connection when they are home. Or a newer TV that does a wireless connection to the internet and causes interference.

So I guess people that hack their game can play on xbox live fine. Just played someone using Blanka and Elena

Have you looked into powerline or MoCA?

So, my internet is notoriously terrible, because I live in an area not serviced by major providers. But… I played online a few days ago and it was surprisingly bearable. The sound issues still need fixing, but I found myself almost not caring when I was DPing jumps on reaction. It made me feel warm and fuzzy inside.

Then I paid a visit to a friend’s house and we played on his PS3 (with “normal person” internet). Everything (again, apart from the sound) was pretty swell, I gotta say. We played local pair mode, and holy crap is it fun. (Mandatory: GET THIS ON XBOX NOW, CAPCOM)

To me, it just seems like such a shame that what is a really fun and engaging fighting game is being weighed down by online issues (sound, pair play) and the whole DLC gem + colors + characters situation. It feels like Capcom aaaaaaalmost made the best game ever, but just couldn’t quite make it all the way there… they had to stumble on a few really stupid, easy problems right before the finish line. I want to fast-forward 6 months when all these issues are fixed and start playing for real… when they learn that withholding the hex value blue from us at launch is not cool, we get all the characters they want us to have, the online is improved, and the first wave of cursory, minor balance/glitch patches (Kazuya infinite) is out.

So has anybody had better luck using a wired connection vs wireless? I hear that is helping some people out. I’m probably 30 feet or so from my router with 15mb down and 1.5mb up net.

thanks for the advice. i’ll try testing all that out to see if it gets better.

nope. i’ll look into it. thanks

How was Blanka?

I’m completely in love with pair play. I think it may very well be more fun than individually.

What was the gamertag? I want to play him! lol

I was gettin very frustrated on PSN with the wait times in between ranked matches when looking for a match. Someone then told me to play arcade while it searches. Problem solved… also seems to find better connections with quicker finds that way too for some reason.

So it looks like they’ve come out and said that the reason pair play isn’t on 360 isn’t because it’s impossible, but because they “ran out of time and resources”.

Good thing you have lots of time now, Capcom. Fix it.

is it just in my head or do 90% of people on psn play on wireless? smh.

I think they do…lmao… I played someone with 4 bars after the match end he had a red ping I was like wtf…8m hard wired…even though I’m like 40ft away from my router I spent the money on a 50ft cable

the netcode is pretty good IMO, it plays a lot better than SF4. I just wish it had more sound though

but i would rather sacrifice sound for netcode ANY DAY!
