Some ppl just have very low standards when it comes to purchasing QUALITY PRODUCTS in general. These are the same ppl that would buy a new $300k Sports car with no AC, and they’ll say “So what… roll the windows down :D” … Most ppl would want to get the AC fixed before signing the paperwork, because they have self-control & feel they deserve the basics every automobile should have before horsepower. But there’s also a group of ppl are just happy they bought the latest sports car full price, sweating like a pig.
Lol most of the people who have no problem with the sound are the same people who dish out cash for sticks, tournaments and even minimum lag hdtvs just so they can reduce the input lag so wtf are you talking about?
…We all know about the sound issue, but most of us don’t care cause Capcom already said they will patch it so what’s the point of even bringing up something mute??
…I think that is a different discussion though and you are probably right.
I don’t disagree with anyone who says that they want sound and responsiveness.
I disagree with anyone who says they are willing to sacrifice responsiveness for sound.
Capcom “says” a lot of things. I don’t understand why everyone is so certain Capcom will fix this issue or even the Xbox issue anytime soon.
Everyone should make a HUGE stink about all of the issues regarding SFxT b/c its simply unacceptable for a videogame and it should not ever happen again. I like SFxT a lot gameplay-wise, but I would not recommend anyone pay full price for this game until all major issues are resolved. These fixes are NOT guaranteed, but there’s a lot of false assurance throughout this forum that they will when you know Capcom’s track record of promises & following through lately.
What happened to being able to choose from a list of opponents? Sometimes it takes FOREVER to get a match, and then it ends up being someone across the other side of the world. I’ve got every body part I can cross crossed in the hope that this is changed in the PC verison.
No offense but this just screams of ignorance, honestly. You obviously don’t even know about netcode or software development enough to be making a statement like that.
For your information, if we’re comparing to “other games netcodes”, rollbacks are an idea that makes direct connection netcode most similar to an authorative server (an authorative server is the type you connect to for online-only games, such as an MMO, where the server is at a remote location - the BEST current form of hosting a server on the internet when it comes to performance). In these type of games everything is ran on the server instead of the client, and when the server detects that something is not correct, guess what happens? It sends a correction to the players… AKA a rollback.
So they actually DID what your complaining about, rollbacks ARE tips from the games with the best server types added to fighters, you just don’t know enough about development to realize it…
Netcode is actually playable for once on my end. back then sf4 and umvc3 (especially umvc3) was unplayable. only thing that sucks is the long wait between ranked matches. the sound issue? i aint even mad, i have headphones on.
Funnily enough, what other games do online (server side prediction) is, from a technical standpoint, a client-server implementation of rollback netcode. For most FPS, the server lets the client do pretty much what it needs to do, giving the illusion of no latency, until the game client loses sync with the server. What does the server do then, it simply syncs the clients game to the one it’s running which is the equivalent of a rollback. The server doesn’t want and slow down the game for everyone else. It simply forces its state on whoever’s game gets out of sync.
The only difference if fighting games followed this implementation would be that the system would now have to manager 2 connections (p1 to server, p2 to server) instead of just 1 (p1 to p2),
Have to admit guys, the netcode is in fact fine. I started hosting my own 3 person Lobbys and playing Ranked and I had very few issues aside from the sound (which does still suck, don’t get me wrong).
Seems like my initial issues were just playing people with scrubby internet.
I can understand why some people don’t like the netcode. But personally, I prefer this version over any other new game within the past several years (excluding possibly sc5 online since I heard it was great but never tried the online). I’ve played almost nothing but ranked matches with area set to ‘same’, I get 90% 3 bars and some 2 bars, and have not had a connection that I considered even close to unplayable. For reference, I consider 3f of lag barely playable/kind of unplayable, and 4f unplayable. Yes, sometimes people skip around a bit. Yes, the sound is fucked up. But I can do all my combos, react to jump-ins and mixups, and essentially play as if I was playing offline. Hell in some tournament venues you can barely even hear the sound, shoutouts to ASUS speakers.
But furthermore, Capcom made a positive move with this netcode. People have been hounding them since before SFIV to use rollback/GGPO in their online code and they’ve finally done it. No, it’s not perfect, but they have to start somewhere. I’d hate to stay in the input-lag ghetto forever since that means I would just not play online. It’s nice to have a new game I can play online, I’ve really missed it.
Now if only they weren’t going to nickel-and-dime everyone for DLC and pay-to-win gems. Oh well!
That’s a different topic, but people are greatly overexaggerating the gems…
There’s nothing on there to be scared of… the assist gems take multiple slots and basically give up a whole template… and the stronger boost gems have very high requirements (which means you can go thru all your gems by the time any of theirs activate, if they activate at all during the round) This also opens up a situation where if you’ve been hit by 4 large combos and just now a gem activates you know what it is (and the higher lvl gems have low durations) so just avoid till its gone…
Also long-term the best boost gems to finish a round fast will likely be the ones for 1st/2nd launchers since those can lead to the biggest damage combos that you can realistically perform every round. There’s really nothing to be afraid of on that list tbh, not pay2win.
Not to mention nobody knows how they are going to handle the gem sales anyway, let’s wait to see how they are handled first before we get worried. For all we know half of those may come with the “Expansion” and not be the ones sold separately.
It’s pretty important to have proper sound in a fighting game. Sound cues can be almost as important as visual cues for hit confirming. It’s also pretty annoying hearing that the only way to fix the sound issue is to sacrifice gameplay quality. That’s like a doctor telling you he can fix your broken leg but only by amputating your arm. Capcom needs to get their act together.
Honestly I play almost a few hundred matches on psn and I have to say most connections even really good are crappy or inconsistent that is why I never play ranked there is no use because i have lost some matches to people I was beating non stop due to a time out or whatever honestly this game online is a fun mode thing there is no serious learning curve you can’t even really hit technical combos because you will drop them more likely. And omg rollback lol i did a ex grab with kuma and bam im getting shoryuken i was like wtf.
I really don’t know what people are talking about with bad connections. The lack of sound sucks, but I’ve been nailing combos perfectly without worrying that a spike will cause it to drop. I’ve played just about 100 matches, and 95% of them have been insanely fluid.
I don’t know if there is a tremendous difference between 360 and PS3 (I’m playing on the 360), so I can’t judge the PS3’s online.
i used to hate the netcode, then i realized i can do the combos with the same timing as offline (most of the time) then i stopped hating.
The major issue for me is the ranked matchmaking. Please Capcom bring back ranked lobbies so i can choose better connections, so i don’t have to wait at all, so i can have a salty runback, so i can see if there are enough players from my area-continent playing so that i don’t waste my time trying to find a match. People go to endless to make lobbies with more than 1 opponent inside and to play with the same people over and over, everyone who just wants a quick match with different opponents or a match that is a little bit less casual goes to ranked, that is why you rarely see 2 player lobbies in endless. Right now ranked maches take too long to start and they have poor functionality compared to sf4.
First of all, the netcode is amazing. I’ve never before realized how much input lag sf4 has. I always assumed I had horrible reactions so I was scared the blanka speed on jumps in this game were going to body me, but I’m actually anti-airing too early sometimes !!
My major issues are matchmaking and sound =/ Takes forever to find matches and the lack of filter on connection quality is really annoying. Sometimes I’m waiting 2mins+ to get paired up against someone with a crap connection and then having to do the match searching process again =(. I wish it was possible to pick your opponent from a list…
If people bitching about the rollback and sound issues end up compromising the current system that has NO INPUT DELAY, I am going to be so disappointed in SRK’s community. I can deal with the current faults if I can hit my execution at the same level of consistency as I can OFFLINE.
I’m not sure how many times this needs to be said, but the sound glitch is a bug. Having working sounds should NOT effect the quality of the net-code AT ALL. Period. The end. It’s not debatable. It’s just a fact.
Rollback net-code is a great thing! And I am as happy as anyone that they’ve finally put that in one of their AAA titles. That the quality of it is worse than GGPO, and worse than the home-grown GGPO-copy used in HDR, which had a beta test for the net-code, and then re-used in MvC2, and that there’s a glaringly obvious sound bug that the casual gamer won’t understand/tolerate and that even the hard-core crowd should be offended by, annoys me.
/rant
It doesnt either help that idiots like DSP say the netcode is ass because shit ton off his fanboy scrubs gonna repeat this shit too…
im sry but who the hell is that i swear i seen his name before. also this net play is one of the best way better then sf4. i can react to everything and block or punish in time. it just so great being able to take a small step forward and being able to block in time.
