Netcode

Just tried out a couple of ranked matches. I gotta say, I’m pretty impressed by the netcode. Played against someone from my country with 3 bars and someone from the US with a single bar. The 3 bar match didn’t have a single noticeable rollback and the 1 bar match had rollbacks every now and then but it was perfectly playable. Me likey.

The audio glitch was terrible though. Both matches had pretty much no sound effects. Also fuck Quick Matches, give me my Lobby listing back.

No, the glitch is there.

It definitely does. Every single one of my matches have that audio bug… Game made me realize how much i depend on audio cues to time my links… Game is unplayable for me online right now. :expressionless:

x2, you never know how much you rely on the audio until you have none… :frowning:

Everyone has the sound issue even on perfect connections apparently, I’m pretty sure it is a glitch.

I am sure 100% all online players are experiencing this problem. Capcom needs to get their butt out and see what can be done, instead of blaming on the connections. This will definately make me think on the next game I purchase from them. I am already disappointed with MK9 issues.

i cant believe there are some people actually making an excuse and defending why the sound cuts out. pretty ridiculous.

i have also noticed, that while spectating, i rarely see the sound cut out at all, but then when i play the next match there is no sound. this is on xbl.

if they do not patch this sound issue i will be getting rid of this game in the near future.

Aww thats too bad… No good online? then i won’t be buying. I am only an online warrior.

For reference:
SF4 netcode is consistently great for me, very much like playing offline when i play green bars. TvC was unplayable, MVC3 unplayable.

very sad to see so few fighting games with good netcode…

I think you’re best bet would be to rent it and try it out for yourself.

Honestly I’ve been having a blast online. Been playing all day & haven’t come across any issue aside from the audio. Which doesn’t affect my gameplay because I would intentionally mute my TV during SF4 training sessions to prepare for rowdy tournaments.(Shoutouts to the East Coast!) Not excusing the issue but the game so fu that I don’t care. I even spent about about 2 hours playing 2 on 2 battles which was surprisingly good too. Landing all my mist step cancel loops with Kaz. I take netcodes very seriously but I can’t knock this one. (See my thread “Importance of a Netcode”) I think alot of people are mistaking lag for the difference in block stun duration and aa’s constsantly being stuffed. Granted I play on nothing less than 3 bars but still the opinions shouldn’t vary this much. This is the 1st game I can play online seriously since BB:CT. Yes since CT not CS.

This is pretty pathetic, I just paid 60 dollars for a half ass unfinished game. LOL

They need to patch the online audio glitch ASAP!!!

As someone mentioned previous, input lag stops my game from looking like a clusterfuck. My connection is fine. My opponent’s connections are not.

Jumping in, only to see my character land, walk back and get hit by lariat or SRK outlines EVERYTHING wrong with rollback netcode. Having input lag shows you what ACTUALLY happens on the screen.

…exactly, so don’t play against that person. Find people who take the game seriously and want to get better.

That’s quite impossible when you are auto-matched with that person 5 times in a row.

I back out of games when I get paired with someone less than 3 bars.

Why do companies make the same mistake, time after time, and not test their shit over a non-local connection? Lazy fucks. I’ve personally had a decent experience so far with lag, the problem is the audio. It makes the game feel really empty.

it works remarkably well. sorry it bothers you so much. but slowing everything down and having huge input delay is not a superior experience by a long shot. it makes reacting to everything impossible. the entire game just becomes a bunch of mostly random guesses. no thanks.

i will take ability to punish whiffs and blocked shit over that any day. dropped inputs happen sometimes, sure, oh well, you’re playing online, there is no perfect solution.

if you’re getting rollback that enormous then it’s not salvageable even with sf4 style netcode. i team with someone from california (i live in NJ). we play whoever we bump into and 9/10 times its still plenty playable for both of us. able to punish, combo, do whatever most of the time. that’s much better than i expected.

What console are you playing on Tebbo?

This. You’ll get lag either way, I’d rather have rollbacks that I can deal with and still play the game well instead of having input lag fuck everything up and make matches unplayable.

I’m not saying the netcode is brilliant. but in doubles it shines pretty damn hard. training mode with a friend within a state should be extremely useful to everyone. the game must switch priority between players. so as long as you’re the one playing, it feels and looks really good and for your teammate it looks worse with a lot more frameskips and stuff. but as soon as they’re tagged in, it plays well for them.

I’ll be happy when they fix the sound crap. Playing on yellow and white bars is mostly pretty good.

A few things I’d like to see is:

!) Custom ranked matches

  1. Player Matches

  2. Region filtering beyond “Anyone in the U.S.” Or Europe and Asia if you live there:)

  3. Getting penalized for disconnecting in ranked

Alright I’ve played for a few hours online so I’ll jot down my experience so far…I’m on ps3, East Coast and have decent internet (not great, not too bad and wired).

I faced players nearby, west coast and in Europe…I can say without hesitation that this netcode is better then sf4. I barely get any frame drops with good connections and inputs are so smooth it will make you say “I can’t believe it’s not butter”. Seriously though, even some players with 2 bars, I was surprised at how well my inputs were registering. There was some frame drops but it wasn’t enough to affect gameplay.

I played a few people that I faced in AE to compare and the performance was better. It didn’t feel like I was moving in water. It was quite refreshing actually, I felt like I can breath and focus on the game instead of anticipating lag and withdraw from punishing certain things on reaction due to input delay as in AE.

Not all my matches were smooth. Some had slowdown and more frame drops that made the game unplayable by competitive standards. Now I’m trying to understand why we’re getting 2 extremes on netcode feedback. I think most likely some players are misinterpreting the matches due to the sound glitch and some frame drops. A lot of the same people who say this netcode is horrible think sf4’s netcode is great so I’m actually relieved cause that alone says something…

Now if you guys who are complaining want the netcode to improve, that’s fine. Go to the capcom forums and make your voice heard, I’ll even join you cause we can all agree that the netcode needs further refinement and stability. Just please don’t make ignorant comments like saying street fighter 4 has a much better netcode. It gives the wrong message to Capcom and we’ve been trying for years to get something worthwhile where you can actually play the game online. If you become good players in the future then you will understand on your own why sf4’s netcode is so bad.

If you want constant input delay then go ahead and ask capcom for the slider options like ggpo has. Just please don’t give them the wrong message that input delay netcode (variable at that) is good for fighters because trust me that’s wrong. It’s honestly not even debatable.

Thanks for reading, now let’s get Capcom to further enhance this netcode.
