It would be cool if the background elements were solely client sided and the rollback was server sided. So even if rollbacks get crazy with teleports, the backgrounds shouldn’t have any effect on the state of the lag. Since the game is p2p, I don’t know how that would work and I could just be talking out of my ass but I think it’s worth a thought. It could potentially cause more harm than good if the only thing being transferred between players is the character data during the match?
The game does drop to 30fps at certain points, but I don’t think it’s during gameplay. Maybe supers and other cinematics. You can see this when you try to record on PC using FRAPS.
lol @ the mentality of “I can’t be lagging, it must be him!”
People forget that there is only so much control an individual has over their own connection. Infrastructure is completely out of your control and frankly much of it is shit in the US. I pay a pretty significant premium for my internet and have a hard line connection. However, that doesn’t change the fact that cable users are all on a large shared network that fluctuates in performance throughout the day due to shifting loads. Cable is also made of copper wire (IIRC), which means it is susceptible to inclement weather (unlike glass fiber optics lines). There are also several different nodes which traffic is routed through. My connection (I’m right by Cincinnati) to New York actually goes pretty far west before eventually looping south and then back to the north east where it finally hits the state proper. You would think it would just be a straight shot, lol. Any one of those nodes along the way can be fucked up for one reason or another – weather, load, or mechanical/technical difficulties.
Sometimes shit just sucks and it’s unavoidable, at least until we’re driven to riot in the streets over the quality of our internet. I don’t see that happening any time soon though…
Grrrreetings All.
Being solely an XBL user, what differences in online and stick input are there, if any? Does having an adapter for cross-platform control affect inputs/lag at all?
I hope this rollback stuff is better than the last time I tried it with sfxt. Input lag I can sort of deal with, but that rubber banding stuff is balls
The netcode is really good now that they have added network settings for matchmaking.
Since I search for 4-5 bars only, the matches got fucking amazing.
On another note, from NC, I wonder what states/cities I can get 4-5 bar connections to. I’m hoping most of the east coast is playable. Wishful thinking?
Not everyone can run sf4 at 300fps, not all pcs are made the same, not everyone runs the same settings.
You could be capable of running the game at above 60fps at all times… except when e.ryu was being played because of the performance hit he gives the game.
God I fucking hate the netcode. I have the filter set to 5 only, and I still get warping assholes playing me. I win the first round, then all of a sudden people start lagging round 2 and 3, rolling back my hits, warping as they walk back and forth, and then winning because I can’t tell what the fuck is going on.
Netcode at quality 5 should NOT be this shitty!! FightCade has been better and I’ve played matches upwards to 200 ping with less warping!!
As my rank has been getting higher, the quality of my connection in my matches has gotten better as well. I’m ranked 328 now and just played my best connection match.
I’m also waiting in rank queue to play matches at 4-5 only. Surprisingly, it doesn’t take long to find a match. About 30-45 secs or so.
