Sound rollback issues were also apparent in earlier versions of 3S OE, but were mostly fixed in the later patches. It can also happen in KI, but it’s like super rare and tends to happen when the connections aren’t very good. In SFxT it was a glitch that I believe became worse after one of the patches. Which means there wasn’t a lot of quality QA going on with the netcode if it was getting worse after every patch. If anything it looks like SFV’s netcode should start out pretty seamless and just get better over time.
i think that making the links easier and lowering the execution level is there to help online play just as much as it is there to encourage new players to get involved. it works out well for everyone. sfxt links were fine online.
I don’t know if anyone has brought it up I’d like the ability this time around to change your region when playing the game online.
It was such a surprise to me when I moved to another country in the later years of SFIV and couldn’t change it.
It put me in a position where it was almost impossible to play online because it would match me with people in the country I used to live in but they wouldn’t want to play with someone using a connection on the other side of the planet and the people where I am now wouldn’t want to play with me because it was showing my region as the one I used to live in.
create a new account. you can keep the old one. i’m from the uk but currently in west coast usa and i have a usa account and a uk one. you only surrender your pp and bp but who gives a shit about that anyway?
i agree your fix is a nice idea but it could have potential problems also, like people that aren’t in said country who change their flag in order to get people to play them when they are actually miles away in a different country. couple this with the fact that sf4 gives a green/yellow connection sometimes even when the connection is actually awful and then you genuinely have a problem. this is ok in asia where gamerbee changes his flag to japan in order to get japanese players to play against him, but not so much in europe/usa.
lets just hope they start basing it off of ping instead and then flags won’t matter.
Most definitely, or at the very least have it as a filter option - ideally the default.
The idea of players having their country of origin something they could personally define in game would be ideal also. Naturally it could be perceived as something perhaps ripe for abuse, but it would be a welcome feature nonetheless.
I hope they do. I watched Infiltration’s stream from several days ago and the connection from Korea to US/EU was AWFUL. It was like zero bars and absolutely unplayable
am i right in saying this is possible on ggpo playing super turbo? i’d be very surprised if we’ll be able to play other continents maintaining good connections. i played ny to england once on super sf4 with someone from here that had a good connection, but that’s about the only time.
Cps2 plays a lot better on ggpo/fightcade than cps3 does. I was able to play ST and have it look and feel lagless from US (east coast) to UK. I played US (east coast) to Japan as well and from what I remember the connection was playable but wasn’t the best, lots of teleporting.
I know many people couldn’t even get in, but those of you who DID get in, can you talk about how the netcode felt? How did it compare to SFxT, SF3SO, and specifically, Killer Instinct?
