Need Feedback on Lagless LCD TVs!

It’s for college, and they don’t offer boxes, just Coaxial inputs. Though thanks for reminding me that the boxes themselves use component outputs as well, I’m going to keep that in mind for future reference.

Just wanted to chime in and say.

Rock Solid. Heart Touching.

Holy hell.
It has component inputs. These things and a simple splitter would solve our recording woes.

Fingers crossed the display performs as well as the 24 inch.

edit: Hey, it’s available in Australia as well, although only the model with the webcam

Sup

I also suffer the same coaxial cable problem. The reason I havent bought this monitor is because I want to use it as a TV also and my cable company uses coaxial cable still. However you could get the monitor with the component inputs and buy a VCR in which you can connect the coaxial cable then output the signal through there. Sure it can be a bit complicated but with a universal remote controller im pertty sure you can set that up nicely.

If the 26 incher performs the same as the 24 that will be my primary choice

have you ever tried playing ggac on a 16:9 display? it’s horrible. the sprites are meant to be displayed in 4:3, and it shows when you play it in 16:9.

i know that it’s more cost efficient to just use one type of display, but guilty gear belongs on a 4:3 crt, period. i don’t know about the ps2 version of third strike, though i would imagine it exhibits many of the same issues ggac does.

and on input lag tests; when testing an lcd against an lcd, it’s safe to assume that regardless of what the images show that there’s at least 5-8ms of lag (which, looking at the pictures comparing the asus to a crt, seems to be the case anyways). i recently did an input lag test comparing my laptop (thinkpad r61; the screen is hooked up through vga, fyi) to a crt and there was a bit of lag on the laptop display.

pics (laptop on left, crt on right):

http://img519.imageshack.us/img519/5654/img0728g.jpg

and let’s not forget things like camera shutter speed and monitor refresh rate that factor into these tests. if your camera is incapable of at least 1/8th of a second shutter speed, then your test isn’t even in the least bit accurate. likewise, if one monitor is refreshing at 50hz and the other at 60hz, there’s an obvious discrepancy there.

This is the quote from the HDTV Faq posted here:

If the only remaining issue is the monitor sync, that means we are either dealing with unnoticable lag, or the very low end of acceptable lag.

Remember that the current arcade standards are pc’s attached to lcd monitors, I am curious to see how an actual arcade sf4 machine would test, but I doubt it would be much different.

The Asus can be set to 4:3. So you wouldn’t have to stretch out the image.

Sorry for the noob questions but what model did you guys decide to go with exactly the http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236059?

Also what else is needed to hook up the monitor to xbox 360 what type of cables would I need to buy?

I want a monitor to play and just want to make sure I get everything I need.

Thanks for the help.

This is the model you want

Does your 360 have hdmi? If so go with that. You can get really good hdmi cables from either here: http://www.bluejeanscable.com/store/hdmi-cables/index.htm
or here : http://www.monoprice.com/products/subdepartment.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10240

If your 360 doesn’t have hdmi you could probably get the vga cable for the 360 and use a dvi/vga converter to hook it up to the monitor.

Thanks a lot bud

I just attached it to the VGA port. It works and I’m seriously shocked how much of a difference the monitor made in overall game play. :wtf:

For the better I hope…??

indeed. 8ms is a negligible amount of lag, although if i were in charge of evo i would try to get as close to zero as possible, and more importantly, i would accurately measure the lag before making any report on a display’s worthiness.

ponder, i realize you’re a mod here and everything, but there is no reason anyone should just accept that you say the macbook pro’s monitor doesn’t lag. you’ve basically conducted an experiment without a control (a display that is guaranteed to be lagless; a crt) and it quite frankly makes any test you’ve done thus far invalid. there’s a reason every guide on timecode testing says that you have to test against a crt first, and it’s because your laptop screen will lag.

and saying that you and someone else played on it for hours and “didn’t notice any lag” is not by any means a way of testing for input lag. if you wanted to choose a display based on conjecture, why did you even make this thread? you can find plenty of people in the tech section claim that $display is “lagless”.

please, for the sake of evo, test your laptop against a crt and post the results here. this is the difference between 5ms and 10ms we’re talking about here.

those monitors aren’t consumer grade though; they’re professional lcd’s. you know that section on newegg called “large format displays”? that’s what those are.

Ive also played on the monitor over the weekend, and determined there is no lag. As well as other members of the community who have bought the same monitor we are using at evo.

shinjn, calipower, calisean, and truetech all have the monitor and all have come to the same conclusion as us.

we have already purchased the monitors, so asking for additional information is overkill. if you have any doubts, you can buy the monitor yourself and test, but our testing is done.

BTW Ponder is not a mod, he is an ADMIN, those people’s names who are in red are administrators, and he is one of the founders of evo and srk. Please don’t insult him by calling him a mod. Thanks.

Right, because us Mods are just scum :annoy:

Good to hear on the tvs

Havie posted CRT vs LCD results long before you came to the party (thank you, Havie). They all show either 0 ms or 16.67 ms of lag due to races in the vertical retrace.

If you don’t have the time to even read the thread, please don’t post in it. Good day.

hahaha ppl just dont know how to read sometimes :bgrin:

great choice of monitor guys

was i the only person to suggest an asus monitor? >.>

Anyone know if the Sony XBR6’s lag much? Thinking of getting a 46" of that model.

why the fuck would you ask this here

Look at the title dipshit. Man you’re just as fucken retarded here as you are on GGPO.
