Just ordered that monitor after hearing it passed your lag tests. Hopefully it is a nice set. Thanks for the update!
Sounds great. With the most convenient setup for lagless hi-def being computer monitors it means the displays won’t have even component output, which is the problem I’m facing as well. For hype matches you could get a hdmi splitter, and split the signal to a second, bigger more traditional display and record off of that. HDMI splitters are not exactly cheap though, and I have no idea if something like that would introduce lag.
Sigh, there is no easy answer… with CRT it was easy just to buy $5 cables to push signals around wherever you wanted without worrying about lag.
What resolution did you guys test on, 720p or 1080i? I’m asking because the specs for that monitor show a native resolution of 1920 x 1080.
I might just pick this screen up soon because my 52" Samsung lcd (ln52a550) has some horrible lag, even on game mode.
since evo is going with the ASUS VH236H, this might be useful.
Newegg has Asus VH236H Black 23" Widescreen LCD Monitor for $199.99 - $30 (with code EMCLSMN49) = $169.99 with free shipping.

MOTHERFUCKER!!! URGH gonna see if I can price match it…thanks a ton for posting that.
someone rep him++
edit: Yes they refunded the $30. Such a good deal.
720p
So how much lag exactly do these monitor’s have Ponder?
Does the game still look decent with the monitor running at 720p?
Hey, I just bought this model too last week from Newegg. Image is great. 2 ms, 1080p, hdmi and DVI hookups. Built-in speakers too although the sound quality isn’t the best.
It looks great! SF4’s max resolution on the PS3 is 720p anyway, so there’s no benefit for going to 1080p in terms of image quality.
I think this deserves a thorough answer; the input lag debacle of ST that one year was pretty heinous and should not be repeated…
If you could provide some hard data, like milliseconds, and the various methods you guys used to test this monitor(because you guys used more than one method, right?), we at SRK would be very appreciative. Thanks for your consideration.
Just got my VH236H about an hour ago.
Seems like a really nice monitor. I can’t feel any lag, but I don’t think I would be a good judge in the first place (it does seem like it has less than my Samsung HDTV).
SFIV looks great. It runs in 720p even though the monitor is a 1080p monitor.
To ponder or inkblot what mode did you guys use for splendid when testing the lag? Game?
Do the different modes affect the lag at all? I think theater looks the best, but not sure if it will increase the lag at all.
It doesn’t seem like there is an off mode, so I just have it in standard.
Just uploading this for kicks. In addition to just play-testing, we also did the DVI/HDMI split thing. The monitor on the left is the LCD display of my PowerBook. The display on the right is the ASUS monitor we’ll be using for EVO. Input is routed to the display via a DVI to HDMI convertor, and both monitors are running at 720p.
As you can tell, there’s almost no lag at all. Thanks for all your help on this thread, guys. It’s been very valuable.
Dumb question, but are powerbooks known to be pretty much lagless?
The only apple monitors I have seen tests for are their bigger monitors and they seem to have a lot of lag.
Thank you Ponder.
That’s suuuuch a dope picture.
That is not a dumb question at all, since Ponder’s screenshot begs the question as to whether or not Powerbook displays have input lag. If they do have input lag, then the fact that the Powerbook and the asus monitor have identical numbers could be nothing more than an interesting coincidence that has nothing to do with proving the asus’s qualifications as a suitable lagfree solution.
Maybe if I ask twice, I might get a better answer. So here it is.
I know SRK can come off as a cesspool of ignorance, but there are a few of us that truly appreciate the scientific method. Please, if you guys could provide us much much more than screenshots that inspire doubt and, instead, some tangible data, we would very much appreciate it. Really.
How do you use the code??
Fuuuck I should’ve waited and read this thread. I bought a samsung t220hd and this asus is cheaper but seems just as good or better. I’ll see if my bro in law wants my samsung and i’ll get the asus for games.
