so are we slowly saying necalli is not a top 5 character? i am having a horrible time with some match ups. Karin especially. Even after applying everything seen here.
Hes more likely a bottom 5 character lol
ugh. well i’ve already put a ton of time into him and dont think i have time to switch before final round.
I’ve been in a character crisis since 2 days before winter brawl. I’ve been working on Chun mostly, decided shes too boring and now I’m working on Cammy. I intend on using her at fr.
I’ll keep Necalli around in case people figure out new tech or they buff him in a year
Dont worry about needing to use Necalli though.
I definitely think hes one of the lesser characters. That does not mean hes ass. You CAN win with Necalli you’re just going to be working harder than everyone else.
I’d just play who you think is fun, man. He’s not Dan tier. He still has tournament rep and people like PR-Balrog say they think he’s competitive.
Oops.
I dunno. i usually get the top tier characters right off the bat. I’ve always loved sagat. ALWAYS. Back in ST at mindboggle arcade, before I knew what tiers were I was throwing tiger mix ups and hard punches/kicks. CvS2 came out and I was immediately on that a groove blanka/sak/bison. My execution was/is pretty booty though. When mk9 came out I loved kung lao and kabal, then vanilla sagat, aquaman in injustice. In this game…I sit here…and I just don’t feel like anyone is extremely good. Except Nash, who has like 800 buttons you have to know. Bison who, despite my love of charge characters, I CANNOT figure out. I look at character select and I see all the empty spaces where Sagat should be and just feel hollow. I’ve played Ryu and he’s just…too Ryu for me. I’m just in main hell and I’ve put time in with Necalli but know that I"m gonna get bopped at FR.
Mika is definitely not in Necalli’s favor. There are plethora of reasons, but I’ll stick with the main ones. From range you lose. Up close it becomes a slugfest where she can mix you up to the point where you will catch a stun, and that’s usually the game right there.
I would say the match up is 6-4. Think about it this way, most of your strings are safe, but leave you at disadvantage, meaning you can’t continue to pressure with stomps unless you condition the Mika player. Similarly I believe Mika wins all the scrambles. Any situation where you both have to guess, I feel it’s better to let Mika have her way until she throws out something silly. That standing MK is really hard for you to try and get around, Passion Press is -2 I think. And Lady Mika is +3 on block (which I can’t for the life of me figure out why capcom made that decision.) So against that kind of pressure, you can’t just randomly hit buttons. Your V-reversal will be your best friend, also you have to be decsive, which means your whiff punishes have to be on point. Do everything in your power to punish the unsafe things, like headbutt, body slam, slides. Whiffed throws, punish all of it.
Mika’s normal mix up is the corner set up which usually involves Passion Press > Irish Whip > Lady Mika > crouch MP (headbutt). At that point Mika will either hit you with Brimstone (cmd throw with kicks) or target combo to confirm into Flying Peach. Or they are feeling hella risky and want to make a hard read, they use Wingless Airplane to catch your neutral jump. Neutral jumping in this situation is not a good idea. Because if they time the target combo meaty enough, you’ll get caught in jump and backflip into the same scenario. Your best bet is to make a hard read, your command throw is 8 frames on startup, Mika’s are 5…which are the same frames as regular throw.
So answers for the normals that I can think of are
Lady Mika (F+HP) is +3 on block with 12 frames of startup. Against this, your best bet to block it, let her have her + frames. If she tries a 2nd Lady Mika after the first you can punish with Jab and crouch MP.
Standing MK at range is -2, you have nothing fast enough to punish it. Walk into her or walk back after it.
Slide is -12, you can punish with cr. mp, st.MP, cr/st HP. If she slides from range cr.MK into ex stomp is your best punish.
cr.HP on whiff has 17 frames of recovery, if she whiffs that near you, blast her with crush counters.
That’s really all I can think of at the moment. I’m writing this while at work. Some of this may not be completely correct, however It’s something to build off of at least. Let me know if there is anything you wanted to add or take out. If anyone can reach out to Alucard and get his thoughts it’d be much appreciated.
So lately I’ve had a really rough time with the Vega matchup. It’s like Vega does everything that Necally does, except better.
I’t more than likely that I’m just being a scrub. How is everyone handling this matchup? Apart from crossups, I don’t see any way of getting in on Vega.
Get the knock down, and stay on him once you do, Vega’s wakeup game is ass, and he has low stun, Push him to the corner, keep him there, and be weary of the V-trigger.
But that’s my main issue, getting the KD. Vega’s normals always beat Necalli’s, I can’t jump in, and I can’t just rely on my V-Skill. I could use sweep, but that’s just fodder for CC.
Once I get the KD, I just mixup between all of Necalli’s options and I’m good to go. But until that point it’s a real pain.
Vega’s anti-air game is weak as hell; you can probably jump in if you alter your jumps with crossups and divekicks. Getting in on the ground is tough. You basically need to whiff punish (if he’s using Claw st.mp or cr.mp use your target combo, use cr.mp for cr.mk, if you have charge you can use st.mp). You also outrange a lot of his normals with your cr.mk, although it’s risky to use as it moves you pretty far forward.
Alright, this is going to be embarrassing, but with Necalli, I have not won a single fight against any M. Bison players.
…And none of them so far have been braindead users.
How the hell do I deal with a mofo who can out-poke ME and makes it hard as hell to reliably keep them from flying around, especially when they get V-Triggered up?
Biggest things I can recommend for bison, any time he scissor kicks he’s negative(unless it’s EX), look for and react to his dashes(this is hard but they are punishable), and you can always anti air head press(either DP or jump up and air to air him). It’s a rough matchup(at least for me).
What do you guys do about zangief? I generally feel like I can’t do anything against him in the neutral game, which generally just transfers into me getting whittled down by normals and I never really get my game going. I feel like I can’t really safely whiff punish him, and challenging him is completely out of the question. His anti airs are godly so I can’t jump at him either.
Bisons dash is punishable on reaction, or a prediction? I often get nailed with a throw or a counter hit setup after a dash.
Gief sometimes feels in Necallis favor other times I feel isnt.
Due to giefs spd not being as fast as it was in 4, you shouldn’t feel bad about rushing him down.
but yea gief is pretty strong in neutral
It’s 22f with a giant “hit me” telegraph. You should not be getting counterhit by it. Just keep a finger ready to hit Jab at all times when fighting Bison.
this is such impractical advice. you will get blown the fuck up trying to sit there and having a finger ready to hit jab vs bison. not to mention very little is gained off a nonch jab. i question who the fuck you guys play when i read some of these things.
Why do you not have your Jab ready to rock against Bison? It’s an incredible button in that matchup. It deals with him Headstomp/DR shenanigans, deals with his jump ins, deals with his dash, can counterpoke his st.mk, combos into EX Stomps and CA or a medium on CH. Necalli’s jab is freaking amazing and it’s a key button in this matchup. You barely have to watch for anything that you can’t deal with using jab against Bison!
Plus you know, if you have a standard stick setup you should always have your pointer finger on jab anyways…
So nearly a month deep, feeling like Bison might be the Sagat/Gief of this game. The only thing that keeps him out is jab, but I’m not going to land 30 of them to win a match. Would really like some advice. At this point I’m just waiting for my main (Guile) and hoping he fixes this.
P.S. Chun is crap too, but not nearly as bad.
