Necalli Match-Ups Thread: Devour Strong Souls

Bison…is tough. I’ve gotten better at it though:

Scissor kick is ALWAYS negative, how much so depends on the strength. I usually cr.Mp>LP DG to punish. Worst it will do is trade, which still leaves momentum in your favor.
LP is an amazing button. Muttonman is absolutely correct.

DP his Headpress, EX DP the EX versions.

Recognize the target combo and punish it.

Psycho inferno you should blow up hard.

If you ever get the knock down, go in for a crossup or an empty cross over to break charge since he has no reversal outside of EX scissors, or just bully. Just mind his grab range cause its deceptively long.

Watch this, this helped me IMMENSELY

Gief is 50/50, you’ll take control or get fucked up.

Space with V-skill, DP/anti-air well, Punish those empty as fuck charged HPs people like to do, and don’t be afraid to get aggressive. This is one of those matches where that post hyping a meaty LK rings true.

Adopt an in and out strategy, because too aggressive and you’ll eat an SPD or EX Bear Grab, too defensive and you’ll get locked down with jabs and such.

Lastly, don’t be afraid to play lame if you have to, I’ve won a few with V-skill spam.

I’ve had a good amount of practice with a local Gief main who won the Wizard World tourney here. Know the matchup semi-well.

For Bison, I already kept in mind that the only time I can VT is when I’m using a finishing combo. This is because V-Reversal is a great tool to deal with Bison. When you’re pressured, try to V-Reversal and go back to neutral.
Don’t jump too much or you’ll end up getting countered by jump back > 2 hits > SK. If you’re in range of him not reacting to that, you can mixup between crossup j.MK and your divekick.
As for punishes, just like Eijiken said, punish Inferno and SK if you’re in range.
Because I learned this the hard way: DON’T try to CA his dash (unless you’re 100% sure it’s gonna connect). Most of the times he will either block it (especially in VT) or his invincible frames will eat up your CA’s active frames.

I have to agree that V-Skill/DP zoning is good against Gief. Especially after VT.
But experienced Giefs will deal with that without much trouble (V-Skill, knee), so after testing your opponent, you should change your approach. Just don’t let him corner you. If this happens and if you’re not familiar with the matchup, it’s probable that you’ll get SPD’ed to death (including air SPD).
After some V-Skill spamming, throw in the occasional rushdown when he’s not expecting it. After that you can apply some great pressure and take control of the match.

Hello fellow Necallians. I could use some advice vs. Birdie. I’m kinda at a loss. I can’t compete against his normals at all, and his anti-air headbutt is really good at stuffing my jumpins. I’m basically free to him right now.

now that sfv has been out a little longer, what matchups does everyone think necalli wins?

Zangief for sure.

Anyone having difficulty vs R.Mika? I’m confused as to how to approach the match-up.

Some notes I’ve made:

-I’m thinking that we need to keep it in neutral more so than rushing down in this matchup.

  • Pressure her in neutral. Buttons we should be using s.hk and cr.mp (catch her charging her special kick).
  • Attempting to zone with seismo is probably not worth it due her to v-skill.
  • Standing jab is good
  • On knockdown meatie timings must be on point, otherwise you are taking major risks.
  • Neutral jump could be useful
  • Don’t be afraid to go all in on DP reversals
  • If you get stuck in the corner, take a guess?

This is my hardest matchup at the moment, just lost five straight to the same mika, was 50lp from gold :frowning:

Is this a 6-4 in Mika’s favor? I would be grateful if anyone could correct me or provide me with some tips. Thanks.

Any advice on Laura and Bison?

Bison is pretty straight forward. Abuse his lack of anti-air and just rush him down on knockdown (s.lk ->throw is a good starting point). If you are losing to head stomp gimmicks, just DP or jump back HK will handle it. When on the defense against bison, just block and wait for an opening (he’ll destroy you if you mash jab). I think this match up favors Necalli 6-4 or worse.

Not sure with Laura, hardly played against her. Make sure your DPs are on point, standing jab and zone with seismo, neutral jump and then jump in when you get the chance.

Think I worked out that Mika matchup, just went on an 18 game win streak and finally reached gold. Now if only I can workout the Birdie match up other than just rushing him non-stop…

I don’t think tiers have a drastic drop off.

Any tips for Mika? Easily the most problematic match up for me. Plus I see them surprisingly often.

against mika you really have to guess right

For Mika the key for me in the match-up is to neutralize her charge hk move since it leads to all kinds of dangerous mix ups (being + on block) and is basically her go to move for getting in.

To make Mika weary of using her charge hk:

  • Be ready to poke as soon as you see it with hk or cr.mp.
  • If you didn’t catch it, standing jab beats it on reaction
  • walk back or dash back is also good
  • Neutral jump, but if you do it too late, you will get hit

After you have conditioned the Mika to be weary of using her HK, they will start to jump on you a lot more. The match up then becomes a lot easier because you just keep her out with your DP and use your superior health and neutral to win. I also play the match up really lame, particularly when I get V-trigger. If you get corned, it’s going to be hard to win no matter what you do. May as well ex DP.

Of course, I don’t have experience against decent Mikas, this works for me against high-silver to gold level.

Bison cr.hp catches both normal timing and divekicks. Not the best answer. A lot of it is just taking the lead and turtling as Bison has trouble getting anything started or if you get in riding that pressure to a win.

Yeah good point, I don’t know for whatever reason most Bison’s I’ve faced are terrible at anti-airing.

I feel like the O.P is a bit much because this game really seems more about the player and matchups tend to be a lot more general than sf4 was so im open to suggestions on how to change it

My pal is a silver mika and here’s some of the stuff Ive noticed.

Mika has more option in neutral other than charging HK. Some mikas tend to use cr hp as a movement option for their 50/50. If they space it wrong and you block, punish it with cr mp or jab since it’s -4 on block. She also has st mk as it moves her forward but it’s unsafe on block (-3)and worse doesn’t lead into anything so you shouldn’t be afraid.

Her block string are all mediocre and her TC lk-mp is -5 on block, she has no overhead. No decent wake up reversal options.
She does have a frame 3 st jab and be careful with F hp. Not only is it stupid safe (+3) it can crush counter.

Game plan wise:
Neutral I recommend to stay crouching mp or mk distance away from her at neutral fishing for cr hp or st Hk. If she gets too close she can throw you to the corner (st mp->b mp) or jab to throw for big damage and you really can’t punish it decently without meter since it -2 on block.
If she’s in the corner pay attention to meter. They can use ex wingless airplane to get out of the corner or wake up ex peach punch but that’s unsafe on block so you can punish it (-10!!!)

I have had this situation come up with a cornered Nash (more than once actually)

Nash was cornered and for pressure I input LP, LP xx Ex Valiant but the Nash used V Reversal after the first jab. A command grab came out and scooped him…

I’m guessing this happened because QCF+K+P (stomp) turned into QCB+P+K (command grab) when Nash used V Reversal…

I need advice vs Claw.
His pokes are just too much, I don’t know how to counter his HP or MP , and occasionally the cr.HK
It’s worse than Bison

Jump. His anti-air options are limited and divekick can really screw him up.

Any advice against Alex?
I know we can jab him out of his jumping stomp and headbutt. I really can’t punish his normals with jab or cr mp due him being pushed away when I block. Any tips?

Havent had much experience in the Alex match but I do know his wakeup sucks and he has a hard time dealing with crossups. He also struggles against 3 frame jabs.

I feel like this match hes gonna try to keep you away since Necalli can mess him up the moment he gets in. He has long range normals but I dont think they have good hitboxes. Need more experience against him
