I just played Chu Chu rocket for the first time this summer. My boy back home has a sweet DC library.
In all seriousness, I had an absolute blast this past Saturday. The games are great, but it’d be nothing without you guys. Great to see the old heads and the new, and a big thank you to those still holding down the responsibility of running the tournaments. Much appreciation.
Big shout to Matt Frank with the app strats! I owe you some sort of something. But keep playing KOF! Hopefully I’ll be at WNB next week.
What’s the deal with the Pourhouse tournaments? KOF? Days and times?
Typically it’s every other monday. Times is like 7:30? Last night nothing was run due to lack of support apparently. The dates for Nov/Dec are gonna be different than usual though due to the holidays so look out for the info when it’s posted up.
Stuff is usually posted here https://www.facebook.com/MINDGAMESBFP?fref=ts
but I know they post up in SRK too every now and then.

Good games in KOF at Javier’s and Brent’s! Next stop, WNB! Lets keep this KOF ball rolling!
Also, top 8 Arcana Heart 3 player has returned! Get hype!

Good seeing everyone last weekend. Still pissed about gettin DQ’d, I’m coming back with a vengeance.
Everyone doesn’t have to play EVERY game, you only really need a small group that’s skilled and informative which is what I feel we have (In Tekken and KoF). Just be passionate about what YOU play. If it ain’t Capcom, you’re unfortunately gonna have to travel further. Them’s the breaks.
@West: they left Calibur 5 out of your pic
I forgot MK9 too. I remembered windjammers over your game. I’m sorry man.
Yeah, they’re not good games. If they were, you’d be good at them, right? It’s not hard enough, that’s why you can’t play it. Makes perfect sense. Absolutely logical.
How many people were at the last WNB for AE? I really wanna come out, but I’d prefer not to drive 100 miles by myself just to play casuals.
It’s kind of scary to go to WNB purely for SSF4 AE because of the random turnouts being pretty good sometimes to completely ass and not even run other times. It’s really random. I don’t even think last time had more than 4 or 5. The only guarantees are stuff like KoF and Marvel. As an AE player though i’d tell you that it’s a gamble.
Dear TH Staff,
Please start your tournaments at a decent time. You flyer says casuals start at 6, Tournaments start at 8. I can understand waiting till 8:15 or 8:30 for some stragglers to come in, but not starting registration until 8:40 and the first tournament match starting at 9:15 on a weeknight is pathetic. You are running a weekday tournament and a lot of your players come from out of town and/or have day jobs. I have seen you guys run tournaments much better than this in the past. Recently however I have seen a steady decline in your ability to run WNB. I am thankful that you guys run tournaments on a weekly basis and I don’t want to make it sound like I’m bashing you guys. All I want to do is make you aware of this problem so this trend no longer continues.
Thank you,
David Miller
I’ll just take the approach that most everyone does then Matt. They’re just too difficult to play so I’ll just trash them and not like them since I am actually just not good enough to play them…I hope that’s logical enough for ya. My videogame mental ability is just not up to par to play them. KOF just is too simplistic and therefore the reason why I am ok at the game… Maybe I’ll have a change of heart and submit to the masses like evryone else. More than likely this will happen if I want to continue to be able to play with people. And yeah… always funny quotes dude!
Oh yeah. Stay mad!!! It’s a good look.
Had a good time at WNB. Look forward to the next time I can be there, hope more KOF heads show up.
Why don’t you AE heads just do like the KoF crowd and organize and talk about who’s going? No one goes for it because as said, they don’t wanna be the only one to show up for it. Communicating and knowing who’s gonna be there makes it easier to plan and takes away the risk. And then suddenly everyone is showing up for it again.
As far as what games to play… seriously, just play what you like. KoF isn’t better (yes it is). AE isn’t better. Marvel isn’t better. Just play what YOU personally enjoy and find fun competing in.
Unless that game is aquapazza… then you are wasting your time haha
That last line hurts so bad >.> we had 7 this time around and if the state guys showed up we would have had 12-13 which would have been more than KoF.
<sigh> This is so silly in so many ways… I must be losing my mind (especially due to the long gaming history you have).</sigh> Let’s begin shall we?
Yes I do believe that AE and P4A and really most of this generation of games (beginning with SF4 vanilla) are not very good as compared to the last generation or games (which include the Capcom trio of CvS2, MvC2, 3rd Strike). I really feel like those games not only have personality but actually made you think about what you were doing. I feel like the games of today (especially the new Capcom ones) give you more tools to abuse that cover up for any mistake or judgment you may make as a player and it’s sad just because this is what people have gravitated toward (including yourself it seems).
I made a comment about you and Blake being synonymous with the Romney/Ryan presidential ticket. The reason for that is simple. You are down with whatever is popular at the moment and don’t have any issue with changing your position to not only suit yourselves but to perhaps convince others of your ever changing stance. This has been the case for KOF since I have seen you play it. You’ve said it’s a great game until… FNI where you lost horribly and didn’t honor the bet by getting the 5 of us Whoppers (too good). Then you disappeared from the game for a while (for whatever reasons at that time). Later on then you say that there’s no scene for it when you were a part of it and at least 7 or 8 of us were playing at one point. I guess what I’m saying is that things went downhill once you started losing. Maybe it was because of the way you were losing, or the fact that you felt you were better than us and still losing. Either way you were losing and loosing isn’t fun for anyone. I mean who wants that. So your opinion changed from great game to not playable since there’s no scene (when you were a part of it). You have said many times here on SRK that you won’t play a game if it doesn’t have a scene. You’ve also said that you can’t improve with the people in your area. HELLO!!! James still plays with you right? He’s pretty fucking good at KOF and games in general (especially since you are somewhat of a teacher to him). Does this mean that you never really liked a game unless other people are playing it? The answer is probably that you don’t like games unless other people are playing it and you are winning. This answer doesn’t compute with who you seem to be as a competitor. You like to win and will do what it takes to win but the fair-weather state you seem to be in denotes a “followers” mentality which is never good for a top player such as yourself. “Followers” are scrubs and I don’t think that you should fall into that category. I just don’t understand how you quit KOF when you like playing it! Everyone says the game is too hard and that’s why they haven’t picked it up. This KOF is by far one of the most friendly version of the game which actually flows much better than just about all of the others. I am just truly surprised man. That’s the bottom line.
The paragraph above represents a lot of the FGC here in NC. Generally we start something and don’t finish it. If it’s too hard we quit and then go to something else since its available (I am “Guilty” of this as well). I know I’ve said this about AE and Street Fighter 4 many times. I hate that game and have never liked it. FROM DAY 1 I thought that it was a very poorly designed street fighter and the FGC mostly agreed but the community decided to embrace this shit and play it even though they said it’s shitty. Javier and I have noticed all of these things from some of our top players and it’s disgusting. I hope to change this shit. With that said there are a lot of our good/top players that truly enjoy fighting games and show that joy when we play any game. I enjoy those sessions the most. I hate to see people shy away from something when they can improve but just don’t want too even though they like the game.
So accusing me of being old and bitter and just complaining in general is somewhat true because I am pissed at the pussy fucking attitude today’s crowd has and it is KILLING me. Oh yeah! WHY THE FUCK IS ALEX STILL WINNING AE tourneys when he doesn’t play and doesn’t even like the game? That’s a problem for the community if it wants to get better. Big ups to the real TRIAD member still holding it down. Rivalries need to be born again and then we can all become better (hopefully).
So now that I’m finished ranting in my semi catatonic state, I guess it’s time to seriously get down to business. Time to branch out and join the group for a while to hopefully just prove a point and perhaps even change some minds. SF4:AE here I come again. Have a great day NC!
Soooo I went and played Javier in some KOF earlier this week, he pretty much raped me horribly, I got frustrated and we ended up having a long talk about the whole thing. I think I still like KOF, I still think it’s a good game, but we both agree that it’s a really frustrating game and it isn’t fun unless you’re winning. I’m frustrated because I can’t yet see the window for me to elevate my game in KOF and I can’t really visualize how Javier beats me. That makes it hard to motivate myself since I don’t know how I should improve. But anyway, that’s pretty much where I stand on that. I don’t see how that equates me to being down with whatever is popular “at the moment” and constantly changing my position. I’ve always liked what I like, rather than what everyone else likes or is currently playing. I’ve come to the conclusion that I will never like SF4, I will never like playing Marvel (though watching it is fun), and in all likelihood, my entire problem with most of these games is that they’re not Guilty Gear (evident by the fact that I now have GG again and I’m playing it just like I used to, with no issues). This isn’t to say I haven’t tried to play other games for the sake of maybe having more competition. That was the whole reason I tried to pick up Marvel. But as usual, I have to actually like the game to stick with it. Winning and losing is a part of it, but I used to lose all the time in GG to Matt, prior to that it was Charles, prior that it was Shaun and Wayne. There have always been people in NC that have been able to beat me in my favorite game, but I never really dropped it. I get the feeling all this came about just because I ended up standing on the opposite side in what appears to be a two-way argument, which wasn’t my intention at all (I was trying to be neutral and just offer observations). It really doesn’t matter to me either way at this point, as it’s evident that things will continue on with or without me. So I’m just going to do my own thing and try to get what enjoyment I can out of the whole thing.
Blake, I understand where you’re coming from. None of the newer games has done it for me like “my” game has, for some reason.
I don’t mind trying the new stuff - but I think I’ll wait for things to drop to at least $40 before I bite from now on. There’s such a glut of fighting games right now that it actually doesn’t take too long; generally speaking I can wait it out.
But yeah - everybody just play what you enjoy and/or have incentive to play. Whether it’s for fun, comp, pot monster-ism or whatever. The rest will work itself out.
FYI Marvel/KOF gathering at my place Saturday night, if you want to level up for NEC come out and PLAY!!! Message me for info.
Because I wasn’t there to beat him in equally hated game like before, duh.
Obligatory play SFxT notion
