I didn’t say it was a bad idea. I tend to talk in terms of cause and effect. I’ll only say it was a bad idea if you thought it was a bad idea. You asked why you were catching flak for KOF dying when so many other people quit, and I pointed out that you were the only one of that group complaining that the game was dead. Hence, people are gonna ask you “if you didn’t want the game to die, why did you stop coming to tournaments?” Nobody’s gonna bug me or any of those guys you mentioned about that because we’re not saying anything. People who approach me about it understand my reasons for not participating anymore and don’t bother me about it afterwards. If I were on here complaining about why people aren’t playing KOF, people would point the finger at me just as much, same as any of the other players you mentioned.
I still check this thread regularly, but usually nobody’s talking about anything I care about, which is why I don’t post anymore. So yeah, if you want me to talk about games and my reasons for why I do or don’t play them anymore, you should keep posting. That won’t bring the scene back, but at least things will be a bit more lively around here.
So, going off this conversation, an idea just occurred to me. I don’t think these games are “dead”, not even in NC. People obviously get up to play them, even if they don’t attend locals. The problem at hand is that the games aren’t getting attention, because…people don’t show up to local tournaments. Most of the folks who don’t show to these tournaments for these games are part of the old guard, who coincidentally are some of the same folks complaining. Now, time restrictions aside (because we’re all very busy people), perhaps part of the problem is that these guys don’t want to go to locals because there is only a small percentage of new players, who also happen to be relatively weak in the game. So there might be just a small bit of pride involved, along with a bit of entitlement (since we miss the good old days where everybody played the games we liked).
But that’s just a little idea I had, and it probably doesn’t have much merit. Regardless, if that IS the case, a little attitude adjustment may be in order. If we want a big scene for our respective games, we’ve gotta make it happen by being active, as we can.
I was going to tournaments already, long before you were “raging.” I was actually AT the KDP tournament, and did pretty well lol.
Like Blake said, we aren’t saying anything, so it’s not on us. In my case, I’m used to seeing games I love die, so it’s not a thing at all to me if KOF doesn’t pull through. I love the game, but I love playing just about any fighting game, and I’m pretty good at most of them, so if one dies I can just pick up another and do well in that. It’s all about the competition to me at this point, so as long as I have a grasp on a game and have people to fight, then I can have a good time regardless.
If you want to complain about it, then fine, but you better be doing everything you can to fix it, or you’re just wasting your breath.
I never stopped playing KOF even when I had no idea as to when I would play next. The amount of people playing is irrelevant to me; I’m interested in the quality of players, hence why I continue to play XIII.
I know why I can’t make it to tournaments (which will raise in frequency now since we’re all moved in) and I realize why others can’t as well. I’ve been through that from both sides. The monkey on my back and what interests me has to do with the reasons given as to why people don’t play my favorite fighting game.
Let the KOF revolution continue. I’ll do everything I can do make it to KDP.
In the meantime, will some of you PLEASE think about why I NEVER EVER PLAY AE yet can still show up and run through a bracket full of people who GRIND THE SHIT DAILY…HINT: It was probably on PS2…
Shoutout to everyone who didn’t stop grinding. I didn’t! If you did blow off the dust and keep rocking. If you want to be the best you don’t put it down for nothing! I saw people quit. Quit but it whatever! Let’s just play some KOF!
I think the old guard not coming to tournaments is 3/4ths real life and 1/4th lack of respect / interest / patience for the new players, new scene, whatever. And coming from the old days, I can definitely understand that. But it’s like anything, the new generations are the future. They can A) Get beat up so much they get sick of it and level up / get on our level or B) Keep saying “I’m not that competitive bro!” and keep coming out every week and feeding us money. As long as we still have the old players around here and there to play and have some really good comp, I’m cool with that.
Like I said, just takes some communication on our part and effort to get out to each others various events and gatherings.
Shout outs to Lu for doing something crazy no one else thought of and showing up to a gathering to play KoF. Was great playing again!
Teach you how to play KOF? I could do that, and if you can get a hold of him, Lu as well as Jon would be great resources, as far as people in the immediate area. I can run down the basics, show you how the system works, give you character/team ideas etc - what I’m best at though is something that’s pretty hard to teach (defense, not getting hit/thrown, playing to not lose etc).
