i would try and come more often but i don’t get off from work in time anymore
What do you mean by “new fragmented scenes”? Also, what makes you think that we are “coasting”?
Also, lately I have seen an influx of “NC needs to take it to the NEXT LEVEL” talk. How do we go about getting there? I’ve been meaning to ask because (a) I’ve been feeling that way about my personal gameplay and more important (b) I’d like to be apart of any movement to get state-wide improvement.
I just don’t want people to hop on the “YEAH, NC SUCKS” train (hyperbole obviously) w/o arriving at the Do Something About It / Helping station.
I’m an 11-12er so I’m nothing but a set listening ears and an open mind.
Jon hopefully the turnout on Wednesday was just a random bad turnout. Weekday’s can be flaky for some people at any given moment.
I should post in here more.
Anybody new headed up to Boone / Appstate for the fall (or longer / or for longer)?
Aye, there is a good scene growing at WNB. Should be no excuse outside of you don’t play those games and other real life issues not to come out. The community is growing, and with fighting game competition being the minority, you can’t expect much more than that. Those who are segmented and not wanting to play with others because they THINK they are too good, then oh well, you’re not helping the scene grow if you’re sitting at home.
oh god…

That’s terrible.
About “coasting”, I could be wrong, but I think you guys just play each other. You can only be so good if you don’t travel. At the very least, RESE should be a must. Majors/regionals are a great way to get an idea to get an idea of where you are too.
Jon: Akuma huh? That’s a match I tend to be pretty good with, could be interesting.
Rare footage of Jon wanting to use a character that takes work in SF4.

Tag 2 bitches get ready!!! 8 w/ hate i’m out
I’m in yadkin county which isn’t that far from boone
You might be speaking in general. Because I can speak for Greensboro in the aspect of traveling. We travel to RESE every month and WNB on occasion as well as to sessions.
But yeah I feel you on traveling being an important aspect of improvement. I’ve personally only been to one major (Final Round XV) and it was an eye opening experience. Very encouraging and inspiring.
you will not get better exponentially by just traveling within the state. Gotta go visit other areas. This remids me of how we started oh so many years ago not going anywhere and then IceNinja started going to VA tournies and got some great exposure and brought that shit here and the avalanche started. Vids for training and learning purposes are great but it never beats playing against the people that can do it right lol.
What’s up guys. Been a while since I have posted on here. Been so busy getting things ready for ReSe and trying to get my site finished. Anyways the next ReSe as most if not all of you already know is next week. This is going to be the largest tourney yet with some of the best competition you have faced in a long time. There are 6 states coming out all the way from FL to NJ and these guys want that money. I posted some updates in the groups on Facebook but wanted to update the rest of you that are no on there.
Also I would like to have AH and MB there again so if the guy that brought MB on the PC last time can make it out or message me and let me know if it’s going to be there.
I have my pre-registration page up and if you guys could help me out and register that would be awesome. I have to pay for the venue upfront and it would help out if I had some of the venue fee paid already. Also it will help with the line. Last month it took 2 hours to register 127 people lol

I can now announce some other things too…
I am putting a $500 pot bonus for this tourney. $500 will be split; $250 Marvel and $250 for SF4. Payout will be 70/20/10.
I also have some giveaways for this tourney that were donated to me by Peter Le.
The prizes will be raffled off by your wristband number towards the evening.
The prizes are:
Japanese art book for SFxT in its package. Really nice book. This will only be raffled off to the players that enter SFxT.
I have a DJ Hero complete setup for PS3 that will be raffled off to everyone that has entered in a tournament.
The turnout looks very good as I have people coming from TN, GA, SC, NJ, NC, VA, FL, and I am waiting on Noel to let me know if him and Diminion are coming, I will know next week for sure.
Please make sure to register ahead of time so we can move registration along much faster. Last month we had 127 entrants and I am expecting over 150 for this month.
I know I say it a lot but I can’t thank everyone enough for their support. I couldn’t do this without you. I am so proud to be a part of such a cool community!!
That’s all for now and I will see you guys next week.[/LEFT]
That was me. PM’d.

Because you can win in a competitive environment without putting in work, right? I didn’t pick Fei because I thought he was easy, that character is hard as fuck matchup wise, atleast to me. I’d rather play Akuma and have a toolset for everything then having to play the aggressor all the time even when the match doesn’t favor it.
Honestly, we just need serious play more often. We need to get together and really TRY to improve. Don’t pick fun teams, really go in against each other and try to win. Analyze why we’re losing, try to improve. Stop letting the guys on top be the guys on top for long. If one guy gets better, and everyone else wants to improve, he pulls them up to his level by default and you get this leap frog effect. People just have to want it and I get the feeling not many people in the community REALLY want it.
Plus like Lu said, we need to travel when we can. I know it’s expensive and we always have to drive far to find comp, but if we pull together and get organized about it, we can do it. There just needs to be willing people.
I’m willing. Who’s with me?
You played Fei before he was considered to be derp good too but most people wouldn’t know that.
I am with you. If we all push together, we can all level up the state in all the games we enjoy. I’ma planner so the thought that popped into my head was to have a list or sheet of all sessions, tourneys, etc. in-state and out that people need to be aware of and just blast it everywhere so we can move in-force and with purpose.
Just recently made a team change. At the beginning of ULTIMATE, I had no idea about how to be a competitive player so I just picked three chars I liked and ran with it and since just made slight alterations to that. Now, I am more focused on find what my style of play is and have build a team from ground up (learning two new characters) to emphasize that.
I want to be a better and smarter player.
