Where is this coming from. There isn’t a single person in this thread who said they prefer to play online. People expressed a preference for playing at the homes of people who already have the games they want to play, where people are already coming out to play them.
You’re not interested in an attending any of the sessions already in Greensboro or other parts of the state, but you think everyone should put themselves out and come to your venue of choice and play games in the way you like to play them instead. If you want people to come out, give them a real reason to do so other than the fact that you think Arcades are cool. It’s give and take man. If you want to play good players, go to where they are, don’t insist they come to you first.
@ 7th
I think he was saying that arcade machines don’t matter that much for the reasons in your quote: namely that we already have the games we want to play on console, we already have the venues, and we already have the players.
Anyway, the bottom line for me is: See what it is we’re doing before telling us how to change it. If your methods of learning and playing games are better, prove it. Show what you can bring to the table and you just might get somewhere. You need players, make the players need you.
HDR> ST personally, but if I knew about this (should post these things on facebook- all I knew was you were having Madden, which doesn’t interest me), and it was at a time I could go (I couldn’t tonight due to work), I’d be up for this.
That said, when KOF comes out, I’d love to see some stuff hosted on like a Wed or Thurs (the only good days for me) , and when VF comes out, I’ll definitely be trying to get people into that, but I doubt the demand will be there.
maybe tie in with UNCG some and their scene? Most of them don’t bother with this thread though- had a good time with them the 3 or 4 times we met up over tthe summer, though we never could agree on what to actually play.
I just wish the Greensboro crowd felt more like mixing it up with the rest of the state- I think it would help their skill level.
UNCG scene?
Is this the people I usually play with in Greensboro or is there an actual separate group of UNCG players?
If there are some UNCG players like that then it would be nice for them to come to the sessions we have around http://www.facebook.com/groups/fightinggamersnc/
Also we have some greensboro players going out to charlotte on saturdays now
If something is happening with KOF on a wednesday night or thursday afternoon, I’m going to have to find a way to do that, since it seems like no one here in greensboro is interested in playing it last time I asked, though some more people seem to be joining up so that may change.
Trust me when I say no one arguing against you is a play at home online warrior. If you want some offline play join the group I posted above we have sessions here they just aren’t the best advertised things around.
If that’s the case, then those people wouldn’t last long in the fighting game scene anyways. You have to have thick skin to do well, especially at majors and shit where people are talking shit to whoever’s playing against their friends constantly.
Unless Lost Ark gets something like UMK3 or Killer Instinct, or hosts a fighting game tourney or casuals, I don’t have the interest to go across town to check it out, let alone drive a couple hours.
I disagree. The type of thick skin you have in a tournament is different from the type of thick skin you need to participate in this forum. And in tournaments, you can let actions speak louder than words. Though if people are cool with hanging out offline, I don’t really see why it’d matter so much if they didn’t like being on threads.
I miss NC too. I wish I knew there was a scene there, I would’ve participated. I stay in Florida now though. Shout out to the other cat I saw on SRK that lived in the same town I did in Fuquay.
When NGBC was played , Greensboro was a huge center of activity- with some very strong players, though Roski moved.
This summer, there were a few meetups in Jackson library, though those are on hiatus due to school starting.
I do look at that NC group, but my time is limited- and unless there’s a game I really like, I ain’t losing sleep to play AE/Marvel/MK/3S, none of those games worth it to me. Now with VF coming out, Tekken has lost much of its luster also.
fuck MAME son!!! if people want to play Garou or Waku Waku 7 or SamSho or Last Blade or Matrimelee or Breakers Revenge or Rage of the Dragons or any of those seemingly “arcade only” games, its as simple as saying “HEY DeMo, bring the Neo-Geo out next time” which takes me back to the question I asked about what does he have there for the Neo hardware. I am an AVID collector and I am willing to travel.
But being serious for a second. troll mode off Like Matt said, if people really get intimidated just by coming in here then they REALLY wouldnt last in the competitive scene anyways. Or they arent built for it. If they cant handle a bunch of friends throwing witty banter and ribbing each other back and forth with the occasional new guy coming in having to get knocked down off his high horse…tell me how the hell would they handle being in another city having all of their players talk shit to them and MEANING it. troll mode on some people may just NEED to stay in their little micro scenes honestly. because they try to FORCE themselves in the larger scene with a bunch of posts that look like this:
“Whats up y’all. Im from [insert city thats either close to a known session or in the same city] and I play [insert games] with [insert characters]. Ive been playing for [insert amount of time] and im pretty good. I need some strong competition because NOBODY plays where I am so I was pointed here. So if anybody wants to play, hit me up”
Do I really have to go into everything thats wrong with that introduction? Not to sound elitist or anything but this whole NC community is pretty much inclusive. Anybody who is worth a damn in any of the games played is either already a part of the community or is known by someone in the community. Yeah there are the rare cases where we meet them first and then they become a part of the community. But for the most part someone coming in with a post like the one above is bad news. They come in with this air of entitlement like “im already good…who are you guys?” and that just aint the way be welcomed in with open arms. There arent any GG players in this state that havent been through Matt/Blake, there arent any 3S players that havent been through all of those guys (too many to name), there arent any KoF players that havent been through the Triad, there arent any Tekken players that havent been through me. Its just silly and downright disrespectful when someone comes in and posts like WE OWE THEM.
And its really unfair that all we get known for is how we put those types of people in their place, even though they can always show up and still be treated like they belong. But they would rather sit at home and talk shit about us instead of coming out and proving all the shit they talked. What makes it even more funny is that we dont treat ALL new players like this. In fact we have some pretty cool new guys who might as well be part of the family now. Look at Jos and Havok. They are new. They also didnt come in with a bunch of shit talk. In fact the way they got introduced to the scene is because instead of popping off at the mouth, they just came and got on the sticks.
If your new and reading this, just come to a tourney no seriously, people are in general nice at the tournments, just don’t only hang out with other scrubs play people better then you and you will improve. If you can’t get to a tourney for insert million different excuses, well then try harder I mean if you ask and pay for gas odds are someone will give you a ride as long as you shower and put on some deoterant. The only thing most of us ask when coming to a tourney is don’t smell like shit and don’t bio bomb the bathrooms. And actually play the fucking games too, I hate it when people never play shit and just watch the whole time, if you want to watch shit just watch the streams there are better players then us, you learn by playing and getting your ass beat.
Yo Ssj4Crisis_X this means you, come to EZ it is really awesome and cool and its really close to you so its not like you should have problems getting a ride, ends pretty early as far as tournies go as well ended before 10pm last time.
decided to pick up 3rd strike since it was so cheap, hit me up if anyone wants to play some. haven’t touched the game in years, so don’t expect too much comp
its true what demo says about showing up to play - just do it. If you truly want to play games and get better then that’s what you’ll do, if you lurk these forums for a few days you’ll see something about a session and be able to show up somewhere. I have been welcomed everywhere I’ve played at and everyones been really cool. Who cares what’s said on these forums? Hostile or not - these are internet forums !
I know I personally post on here just for fun, random garbage while I’m at work most of the time. The real conversation and stuff that matters goes on at sessions and tournaments, you’ve gotta take anything said on here with a grain of salt.
EDIT: Oh yea forgot why I came here. Looks like theres a whole NC fighting game scene on FB, are they the same people that run those weird single elim laggy TV tournaments, or a third group I don’t know about? Are they any good? http://www.facebook.com/groups/fightinggamersnc/
seriously? you’ve been to a couple tourneys and you don’t recognize anybody in the triad group? and yeah were pretty mediocore, we use to have a pro anime swag bb player live here but he moved away.
that group is mostly full of people who live in the Greensboro area. Plenty of them have accounts on here, they just prefer to have their own niche. And when there are tournaments, they make the effort to carpool together to RZ/RESE/Gamefrog.
