NC LXI: Sweet Home Carolina

Hey Fayetteville players, how many of y’all are interested in the VA tournament this Saturday. Also the next EZ thread will be posted up later this day, the date is October 1st.

As a top player, I’mma start playing Tekken :sunglasses:

Top players are the ones that are going to move the scene forward because those are the ones who people are going to go to for answers to their questions so yea it’s important for people to push their game that they like and help everyone improve. If you really like a game enough you probably would rather get people into it and help them improve anyway just so you can get more local comp because forget traveling every other week to a new state to play people, just not cost efficient for anyone here.

Yes play the Tekken. Allow me to beat the change out of you like River City Ransom. Bring your arrogance, your bravado, your drive, your dreams…so I can fuck them all to pieces. Tiny bite size morsels of hope. nom nom your chances of beating me sure do taste good.

im down for va

you need to know your audience. The last 6 months ive heard nothing but “you need to play third strike”, “yeah third strike”, and various grunting noises. I know the fellas have been telling that to everyone but when they approached me with it they knew my strengths along with my complaints about current games. I like 3s alright even though im complete ass, but im getting help along the way. I dont think you can just tell someone “hey play my game” and expect them to do it. You need to know whats driving that person to play in the first place

I was gonna take the light cycle up there, but if there’s enough player in Fayettenam, I could switch to the van and fit a few people in. Do note that I am getting a hotel room unless someone else is driving on the way back, and anyone can crash in it long as they chip in.

  1. Honestly I’m guilty of not giving certain games a try because I felt the competition wasn’t strong enough for me to dedicate my time to. I actually enjoyed playing MK but dropped it because I predicted that the scene for the game would slowly die out. Of course my prediction was somewhat true but it doesn’t excuse the fact that my type of mentality is exactly what lead to the downfall of MK. I still see it as salvageable, so I’ll probably pick it up again.

  2. Apparently both the PS3 and 360 versions of 3SO have 4 frames on input delay. That seems reasonable since almost all fighting games have around that much input delay. How much input delay was on the arcade version of 3S? Also why is everyone saying that the PS3 version feels like it has more input delay, especially now when it’s been proven that both have the exact same amount?

  3. That makes me and Raf, anyone else in Fayetteville down for VA?

EDIT:

Actually that’s a perfect plan. How many seats do you got in your van?

Human perception is shit. It’s imprecise and easily manipulated. Scientific method has been bodying it for free for centuries now. That said, people saying “this feels wrong” puts you at the hypothesis stage and it merits investigation, but repeatable objective testing is what determines whether it is real lag or phantom lag.

Well I hope you do pick it back up, me and Brian are working on some big things for the NC MK scene and hopefully all of whats coming will start next week with the Ranbats. We have however been playing MK at his weekly sessions and some decent turnouts. So if anyone else is interested MK and wants to get out there hit me up if you live in the fayetteville area.

btw, better check on the availiable rooms in the hotel. It’s race weekend so lots of rooms are all booked up.

I can’t speak to all fighting games, but I remember reading a chart a while back that has the input delay timings on various games on PS3. Games like infamous and GTA4 had around 4 frames; I remember Tekken 6 having 2 frames of input delay. Note that this is increased by using a wireless controller. But 4 was the norm for your standard action games, but I know Tekken 6 and I think SF4 and Blaz were 2 frames. Now I don’t know if 3S has always had 4 frames of input lag (I played the game for the first time last night and the controls felt wonky as hell. well, more wonky than 3S already had in my experience) but if the arcade was in 2 and now its 4, they really botched the release.

This a thousand times over. People don’t understand numbers or scale, plain and simple. Take something like say, LSD. One gram of LSD in a container would look about the same size as the eraser on a pencil. It only takes about 100ug (like a twentieth of the weight of a single grain of sand) to get you all kinds of wild and there is 1,000,000 ugs in that measurement. Shit has to be precise. You don’t just eyeball that until it ‘looks about right’. When you’re dealing with something like that, or in our case fractions of seconds it just doesn’t matter what you say you feel, what can you prove? People are trying to visit unicorns and nail their links. This is the real world people.

edit: @Ryucross. Just depends on what the arcade board was set to I suppose. There was a thread on this where they confirmed that some older capcom cabinets were at 4 so I can’t imagine were in the middle of a huge 3S shakeup right now, I’m sure some garage tech guy is on it as we speak though.

GVegas Beatdown 7 is official November 5th. With over 100 people last time in attendance this one should be bigger!!
MK9
MVC3
SC2
Third Strike
AH3
KOF13
SF4AE

Bro this is science. Very serious business. I’m trying to talk about scientific measurements here.

What time? I’m trying to see about going to VA with someone, but I have a feeling its not gonna go through so I’ll probably be down there.

Hate is a strong word to use, but I would say that I highly dislike AE and MvC3. With each edition of SFIV I thought I would be able to like it, but again and again I can’t get myself to want to play it through “liking” it. I will only play those games for competitive purposes for two reasons: 1.) Both games have the highest amount of competitive players in them and 2.) I want to push myself against a broad range of competitive players in a widely competitive fighting game. I can barely keep myself occupied to practice anything in SFIV , but I can go on and on with 3S and I’m suppose to be one of the new players. You know, the ones who don’t like 3S but will play SFIV. My dislike for MvC3 may not be as harsh as SFIV since the game is so simple its almost hard to think someone could dislike. Still though, with two characters I wanted to be in MvC3 coming out with Ultimate along with some game play changes my dislike will probably come down no less than 50/50. Right now I would say that its over 80/20. But I don’t see much changing for how I feel about SFIV. That game just sucks.

I have to disagree with that statement. Players in general are gonna push a game forward regardless of being top or not. If you like a game just don’t tell people about it, point out stuff that they may like about it. I kept hearing about Arcana Heart for the longest time, but it wasn’t until I sat down and someone explain to me the different things you could do that got me interested in it. You don’t have to be a top player to get others interested. I think a lot of players get that confused and may feel intimated to get others into a game because they think that a “top” player isn’t playing the same game as them. We all got to start out somewhere.

I have to agree with this part of your post, haha.

Never heard of a top player that hasn’t started playing Tekken. Haha, I kid I kid. (But no, I’ve never heard of a top player that hasn’t started playing Tekken, lol.)

So am I bro. Any news on a carpool heading down there from the RDU area?

360 version is the one that is perfectly arcade perfect. I’ve been pro at that game since it hit the market store and I have played both versions at least once. GOML, GOAT, SNS, DDT, XBL, GGPO, WTF, BBQ.

People have been talking about playing BB for the longest time now, myself included. You mentioned back at that Saturday Tekken gathering a long time back that no one plays BB and I told you that I’d play with you. There are some people at state I play with every now and then who play BB. I remember Josiah mentioning that he plays a little BB that time you were getting upset about Marvel. People entered the BB tournament at EZ the tournament before last. People have been talking playing BB for a while now.

I’d like to go to VA this weekend.

Myself included bro.

I’m gonna have to see about making it out to this one.

Would anyone want to get some games online on ps3(SF4AE)?. . .so much stuff going on all the time. . .but never anything I can really go to. . .

That’s what’s commonly referred to as a self-fulfilling prophecy. First you predict something, then you make that prediction come true through your own actions. You don’t put effort into the game. You make the tournament a minor with no evidence to support said decision. You eventually drop the game, and look at that. Before you know it, you’ve helped contribute entirely too much to the game’s demise.

But hey, you were right. At least there’s that.

I actually agree with this. While having a top player to play against is ideal, when you want to improve / seek advice / etc… it shouldn’t be the deciding factor of the scene as a whole.

For example…Brandino was a great player to fight against, and he supported AH3 well by bringing his TV, PS3, AH3, and driving 2 hours just to play games with us. But when he moved to Ohio, NC Arcana still kept it’s status / improved.

When there is a void to be filled, dedicated players (no matter what level of play) are going to step up to the plate. If your scene doesn’t have a top player to support you… then you pick up the slack, you schedule gatherings, you support the scene, you strive to get better, you become the top player.

Don’t wait on someone to hold your hand so you can cross the street; get it done yourself. Thinking that you can’t accomplish something because you’re not a “top player” is the mindset that will forever keep you below that status.
