Jimmy Fallon taking over the reins of The Tonight Show would the nail in the coffin.
jimmy fallon needs a lot of work and improvement.
i tried watching that show after conan’s final episode, and his interview with brendan frasier was just painful. granted, brendan frasier is a bad guest, but still.
I TRIED to watch Fallon’s monologue after the “pouring out a 40” intro, which was decent. I turned after a minute. Same thing every time I tried to watch his show in general. Maybe he’ll improve, but I’m seriously scratching my head over how he got a show AND The Roots.
But one thing interests me: earlier on, someone said you can basically tell certain guests got on Jimmy’s shows just to meet The Roots. Which ones, and how could you tell? I don’t watch the show enough to know either of those.
Via ?uestlove’s twitter (roots are THE houseband on fallon? amazing.)
LOL at Tom Hanks walk on music on Conan last night:
Edit:: for further information: it was Lovely Rita by the Beatles.
Who what where? How did that cost $500k
Royalties out the ass, I guess.
I’d never seen Jimmy Fallon’s show so I Hulu’d Thursday’s episode just to see The Roots. You all are saying he’s garbage, but he’s not completely terrible, and I can see him improving over time. The harsh reality is that he’s too young for you. Jimmy Fallon is almost exactly what Conan was all of those years ago. I’m sure a lot of people in this thread can say that they “grew up with Conan”. How old were you when you started watching before he got the Tonight Show? 15? 12? maybe younger? Well it’s probably people in that same age group who 5-10 years from now will be wondering if he’ll get the Tonight Show while we’re the old foggies shaking our fists at the Television wondering why Talk Show hosts aren’t more like Conan, and how it was back in our day. The truth is that “what’s hot” changes over time. Conan gets by on his vibrant personality and his quirky sketch comedy. Jimmy Fallon seems to be more in the vein of Jimmy Kimmel.
Conan is to Leno what Fallon is to Conan.
I agree. In his first few episodes, you could tell he wasn’t used to being in front of an audience, and people gave him a lot of shit for it. But you know what? He got a lot better since.
I suppose part of the reason I dislike Fallon so much is his pre-talk show career; NOTHING I’ve seen with has ever been funny (SNL. Taxi w/ Queen Latifah, etc) so when I tuned into his talk show and saw more of the same unfunny Fallon, that was pretty much it.
I can’t disagree with that, but if it makes you feel better you can take solace in what he said on his Thirsday show. “There have been 3 hosts of Late Night. David Letterman, Conan O’brien, and now me, and if it’s one thing I’ve learned hosting Late Night is a one way ticket to not hosting the Tonight Show.” Again he’s not a great host, but give him a few years and I can see him getting better. He seems like a fairly congenial guy, so if he’s able to spice up his act a bit maybe he’ll work out.
I doubt it.
I can watch stuff like spongebob or total drama island and still understand why a younger generation would find it hilarious even if I only find it mildly amusing.
I don’t really see it that much with fallon. He’s okay, but he totally has bouts of unfunny that are really hard to ignore.
The Roots loves being on Jimmy Fallon because they get to stay right in New York, play for like an hour every night and get paid, and then get to go off and continue to work on other musical stuff.
Jimmy’s delivery and stuttering issue is fucking annoying and incredibly not funny. He seems like he’s trying SOOOOOOOOOO HAAAARD.
There’s also the free advertising. As opposed to the other Late Night house bands they’re more likely to be seen and known outside of just being on that show. Jimmy’s audience overlaps with their audience. The people who didn’t know The Roots before watching his show do now, and it keeps their name on the minds of the people who watch his show, and you can bet when they drop another album he’s gonna plug that shit like crazy. It’s win win.
i think that comment was more about the post that i made about how ?uestlove says that tom hanks walkout music last night cost nbc $500,000.
Yeah, Conan was green and he wasn’t good at first because of it, but he improved. The difference is that Fallon has done TV for a decade and he still sucks at it.
Yeah Jimmy’'s been on TV and in front of a Live Audience for close to 10 or so years now. how much longer does he need to find his footing, really?
What ever happened to Conan’s old announcer Joel? I’d cry laughing when he’d tell those bizarre stories and end all of his lines with that whacked out Jack O’Lantern smile.
I loved what Conan said about cynicism. Its way over rated and over done. It was badass if you did it in the 90s and early 2000s. It just seems silly and teenager like now.
Joel is hangin out with Ed Hall in obscurity I’m sure.
