My Impressions from the reveal
Returning moves
Sonic Boom
Flash Kick = New Type.
New Moves
Aerial Flash Kick
Command Throw
Slicing Kick (Combo ender?)
Element type
Definitely air. The activation prompt for element mode is pretty much the aura shadow whirl thing before you activate it or a “super”. The main reason I believe its air is prior to every teleport he activates element mode. I hypothesize he may be a two bar character, due to the implications of such movement. So far we’ve seen that Lightning element powers up your attacks making them “guard break”, water gives increased combo capability and Air seems to be purely movement. I’m excited to see earth because I want to see Earth Element giving armor on your next move or normal…would be a major game changer for certain characters.
Game wise, I’m pretty happy with this variant of Charlie. He’s completely different from Guile, yet still has all the same tools and a few new additions. While I don’t play decapre, I can appreciate a offensive rush down charge character. His tool kit seems over hauled, and while I didn’t see my command back fist, The step in kick he used against Ryu was very reminiscent of his old Forward + Roundhouse Kick.
Dunno How I feel about the new Flash kick/ Genocide Cutter. I liked Somersault Shell. Still, it looks cool.
STORY STUFF
I feel like this Charlie is a play on his Agent Shadow ties. He’s seen some shit and clawed his way back from death. I think maybe he’s going to be a guy out for revenge or working for someone for the chance to get at Bison. He seems very much less the “veteran hero” and more revenge driven. The patch work look is eh, and while I am hoping he has a “not Frankestein” costume, I still like him.
Some other things ive noticed.
His skin tone and the jewel definitely remind me of Urien…dunno why but it does.
He appears to have soul power. I think this, because his command grab is more of a pulse of energy and not a vacuum attack. Also his sonic booms and Flash Kicks don’t have the same glow that guile’s has and the glow his had in SFA.
Combos seem to be far easier in this game, either that or the guys doing the trailer work have been playing this game a bunch. Charlies Dropping what look like double charges in combos (unless aerial SS is the same as MVC2, where it was a command instead of a charge). Also, there seem to be a lot more room for links, thanks to the new hit stun. It very much reminds me of SF3, where combos weren’t difficult, but they weren’t easy.
I think the game is looking fantastic. The new graphics help the game stand out and look less like KI or MK. I prefer my Street Fighter to be more colorful than gritty. The game seems to be more a long the SF3 lines as far as looks (not to mention the first stage they revealed is from 3) which isn’t a bad thing. I’ve never liked Street Fighter being super fast paced, I liked SF3 and SF4’s pacing, because it makes it more of a read, focus on solid playing, instead of “keep the pressure on.” certainly characters are capable of it, but I like it more than retarded long combos (lookin at you tekken).
