Nash General Thread: Charlie (Nash) finally revealed!

eh
ryu looks way more crisp in marvel 3 than in the new sf’s

There are some strange looking models in the game, but in general it’s definitely a lot less poopy looking than sf4 and friends

SF5 models are way better than SF4 ones.

Riiiight

Marvel models look “way better”

There is probably more polygons in SF5 Ryu’s head than in the entire body of Marvel 3 Ryu.

Keep in mind, without cell shading MVC3 Ryu looks like this:

You may prefer the MVC3 ARTSTYLE but the models look like garbage compared to SF5. I love how Okami on PS2 looks, I think it’s one of the most beautiful games to be made, but that is all in the art style. I wouldn’t claim that the models in Okami look way better than say Lost Planet 3, even if lost planet 3 is a pretty mediocre game with an overall ugly art style the models are still higher quality.

I think the marvel 3 art style is godlike, too bad the netcode and balance sucks, that game would be fucking huge if it had those two things.

I thought this thread was related about discussing stuffs about Charlie

But all I see here is debate regarding the Visuals :’(

Yeah I’ve been wanting to dish out so many “off topic” responses lately…

I think we need to calm down and stuffs , its still kinda early and I think the visuals are again subject to be changed during development cycle

BACK ON TOPIC NAO :

Oh Man I’d love for Charlie to have a rival fight against Bison in this game :3

Dunno about you guys but i am really getting wet thinking about it

Wow.

Understandable to an extent since the charlie video introduced some changes to the visuals.

What’s the difference between an 8 character game that is perfectly balanced and a game with 8 top tier character that are balanced against each other but blow out the other 40 characters?

People bitch about the 2nd game even though it is basically the same thing.

Balance is overrated.

The problem MVC3 has is you have to learn so much shit just to get to the part of the game that is amazing. Mid level play is so much stronger in that game than it should be just because there are too many scrub factors. But I give the game credit, high level play can be fun when both players know how to stop the BS. It just takes too much work to get there.

I know but still :frowning:

I believe then Visuals should get its own thread too

In the first game 100% of your possible choices are viable characters to use competitively vs. only 20% of possible choices. If this was the case, Game 1 would have had a development team working within their means to balance their game where as Game 2 was shit out by a team who didn’t know what they were getting into. Thankfully SF4 had a fairly high number of viable characters for competitive play but MvC3’s focus on ToD design sunk most of their cast for mid to high levels of play. One game lasted and the other is all but dead so yes balance does matter but it isn’t absolutely everything.

might have something to do with the fact that sf4 has changed like 160 times whereas marvel 3 got like 1 real update

and lol @ calling marvel 3 dead

this is stupid though
no point in arguing about game vs game when people don’t even know what they are talking about in a thread that’s not even related

Sheer amount of polygons does not correlate to how good a model looks. You even said this yourself in this post. I don’t know where you got that he was saying that the models were more detailed or had a higher polycount. All he said was that they looked better.

A lot of people bitch about the SF4 visual “style”, when its problems have nothing to do with style. SF4 has many instances of clumsy, rushed models with obvious flaws they refused to fix, and cloth physics sucked all around, but the shaders were pretty good and character proportions were fine for the most part.

While it is true higher poly-count does not necessarily mean the models look better and it all depends on the skill of the artist, the mvc3 version of Ryu just looks like some guy who cosplays Ryu.
It does not really look like Ryu, which takes away a lot of points from the model in my eyes.

I am quite happy they did not go for the MVC3 style with sf5 (or with sf4 for that matter).

Actually what I said was that artstyle and model quality are not the same. He said that the models look better. They don’t the models look worse, the art style is better in his opinion bu that doesn’t make the model quality better. Katamari Damacy has fucking awful models but it’s intentionally bad and super low poly and creates a fun art style.

Anyways mugen Frankenash looks likes he is made from poopygons not polygons because that character design is complete shit.

Yes, that is what you said, but there was no reason for you to say that in the first place, as he didn’t specify what his criteria was for the models looking better and you attacked the polycount on those models regardless. As you’ve said, lower polycount doesn’t necessarily make it worse, but the point is that he never specified what he liked about them, so there wasn’t really any reason for you to say that.

Actually what he said specifically was that the 3d models looked better. That is totally different than just the artstyle looks better. the 3D MODEL looks better. That ignores even the cel shading, colors, whatever. Just that the model itself looks better. Which was simply not true, the quality and details in the 3D model for SF5 are leaps and bounds above Marvel 3s. If he meant the art style than sure, but that is hardly made clear in his post, maybe that isn’t what he meant but it’s what he said. He hasn’t been back to clarify.

Anyways this whole conversation should probably be moved here:
