Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm 2.0 - Storm 4 Is Out! (PS4/Xbox One)

  1. oh is looking really different I’m considering getting that revolution

Before you guys read the rest of this, I re-read my comment, and it may appear as if I’m bragging about my wins. I will let you know I mean nothing of the sort, as all the matches were fun and I learned a lot, and I sucked just about as much as I did well, so no bragging here…just rather extensive explaining. Speaking of extensive, I’m going spoiler it for those who don’t care to read it. :^)

[details=Spoiler]So I got to play some Revo matches with an actual Shoryuken-er, and low and behold it is Shoryu’s own Naruto Storm Legionnaire…The Martian! The mysterious man who constantly changes his face and the Unstable Catalyst of Hype engaged in fisticuffs, and to my surprise it was rather evenly matched. All I remember is that Martian picked some pretty beast team comps, and I was ready to get absolutely destroyed…which is pretty much what happened the first three rounds: Monsieur Sasuke w/ Madara and Shisui rocking that Drive Type was kicking my butt. So an ounce of Saltpression kicked in, and I picked Team Fricken Old Guys: Edo Mizu lead, with Edo Tsuchi and Edo Kaze supports…on Drive Type.

I kinda feel bad about that match, but I still enjoy the tech I used with that team: while blocking Edo Mizu’s [ ]-Mash, it pretty much leaves them in one place, and it’s kinda hard to deal with in general. While in blockstun, calling Edo Tsuchi (I haven’t confirmed this yet, but I haven’t seen it fail either) seems to be either confirmed damage or it pulls a sub, either of which are golden. There were so many times where Martian tried to get in but couldn’t (or did but couldn’t stay in), and as it turns out Edo Kaze is great at keeping people off you from a bit farther than just close-range.

We had minimum twenty matches (pretty sure it was more), and up until our Naruto (Kurama Link) vs Kakashi (Speed) matches (of which there were at least three) I was winning a lot of the games. It was after these terrible games in which I played god awful and lost them all, I’m not sure who had more wins, which is why I’m pretty sure it was even. I’ll be completely honest: I picked a team that I practice with very little, with a character that I don’t really like all that much outside of support. Due to this, I had no idea what to go for and what my options were, and I lost those games because of it. No excuses, my lack of training with the team lead to my downfall.

I think my favorite matches of the night were when I played Team Aiming for Sasuke (Ino Lead w/Sakura and Karin support) on Drive Type and barely squeezed out a win or two, and when I played with Team Legendary Guts (Jiraiya Lead w/ Naruto (Kurama-Link) and Minato (Reanimation) support) on Drive Type. The couple of matches with Jiraiya were just so fun and silly, you should have heard my reaction when I trapped Martian into a Ring Out really early game for a crap-ton of damage, only to trap him into another one not too long after. I believe that may have been our first Rematch without selecting new teams, in which case I don’t blame him at all as he didn’t get to really play that match. I will admit it was fun to perform well with a character lots of people have wrote off as terrible.

I think the only disappointing thing was when I lost to Deidara rocking that Drive Type with some beast supports. The loss itself wasn’t super upsetting, but I feel like I learned what I did wrong by the end of that match, and I was dying for a rematch using Rock Lee w/ Might Guy on Awakening Type…which as you can tell, I didn’t get it. #Where’sMySaltyRunback? Oh, almost forgot when my Team Asuma (w/Chouji and Ino support, on Awakening Type) got absolutely bodied in the first match. That was rather disheartening, I won’t lie. While not disappointing so much as unenjoyable, the match in which I played Edo Will of Fire (Edo Hashirama w/ Tobirama and Sarutobi support, on Awakening Type) was just so…well, un-hype in my opinion. There were a lot of things he should have been able to catch me on, and he couldn’t…because Edo Hashirama is just such a good character in ways that defy all reality, and it was a win that didn’t really feel all that enjoyable.

I also learned a few things, but two stand out the most: 1. If you out-play your opponent, your character’s defects matter a bit less. They still matter of course, but a Young Sakura player can defeat a Madara player as long as they stay on top of things the entire match and stay 1-upping their opponent. I previously thought that if both players were on an equal playing field that the better character would win EVERY time, but Martian mentioned in an earlier comment that it only really applies that to Single Matches, and that statement could not ring any truer to me right now.

The second thing I learned is why people think Drive Type is so good: the potential ability to turtle in Defense Mode is crazy, and it takes multiple chakra-dashes to make them temporarily unavailable, which could also mean your opponent could have the chakra and sub-bar advantage at that point due to you using chakra for the dashing as well as possible subbing to get out of harm’s way. You’ll notice I mentioned a lot of Drive Type teams, and that would be most of what was played, but I never felt like it was impossible to beat or be beaten at any moment. There are so many ways to get around Defensive Mode without chakra dashing, as well as many ways to make your dashes safe. Once you reach that moment of them having no supports, the pressure you can apply is unreal, regardless of their chakra/sub-bar status. Everything that makes Drive Type is support-related. Now, you might be saying ‘Well duh, Forsaken, that’s kinda obvious’, but dwell on that a bit harder: EVERYTHING that makes Drive Type is support-related. If you knockout a support on someone’s team when they are using Ultimate Jutsu/Awakening Type, all they lost was a support to call…and only temporarily. While the loss for Drive Type is still temporary, it is much more crippling, as losing even one support deprives them of a lot, but losing both? This temporarily removes not only their support calls, but their Charge-Guard, Dash-Guard, Stun-Guard, Combo Extend, Knockback…well, you get the idea. While the other Types keep their big guns, Drive Type gets reduced to Single Match for a rather intimidatingly, exasperating long time. That period of time, in my opinion, easily balances out Drive Type. I’ll also add that a lot of the offensive side of Drive Type has been nerfed since the previous installment, and supports in general are not as strong as they once were, once again balancing Drive Type.

This installment of the game does not encourage mindless dashing, and that is the main problem I see with anyone who complains about the counter or Drive Type: I see them dash in again and again and again, never trying to spice it up, being as predictable as a court’s decision when a woman is involved in her Child Custody case. I watch this and I scream “Throw some projectiles! Cover yourself with an assist! Cancel your dash!” Do they? No, but they sure as heck complain about what beat them and have a flock of others who can’t adjust ‘console’ them. It just irks me when they call the other guy a scrub and call his tactics ‘cheap’ when they are the one who lost because they refused to go back to the basics of playing fighting games competitively.[/details]

I would appreciate some tips, however: I’m not sure whether rocking Awakening or Drive Type is better for Team Fricken Old Dudes. The computer likes to interrupt my strings with projectiles, which would be solved with Awakening, and would also provide me with a combo-cancel that applies to Edo Mizu’s [ ]-Mash. However, I feel my damage output would suffer heavily if I switch from Drive, and we all know damage is what truly counts.

Opinions appreciated!

Those were some good games…I’d love to get some matches in again sometime soon.

As for advice, it doesn’t really seem like you need it all to much. You seem to have a great grasp on the fundamentals and you won a healthy amount of those matches, albeit a lot of those teams I picked were experimental…but still.

In regards to your Edo Mizu team, that was actually probably the best usage I’ve ever seen of that character. Your team made it really hard to circumvent all the zoning and I pretty much got chipped to death. That Deidara team is the ultimate apex of cheap though, lol. Been using it since Storm 3. Whenever someone pisses me off in player matches that’s my go to team and it hardly ever loses.

In regards to D Groove…yeah, it’s usually the drive people say is the best. I really think it’s just a matter of balancing preference with how well said groove works with your character. For instance, my main team (Sasuke/Shisui/Tsyukyomi Itachi) relies HEAVILY on Drive Type. Sasuke is already such a good character in itself, all he needs is that extra bit of defense so he can effortlessly get in. It’s really all about that Guard type. If you can manage to keep your assists alive and use them wisely, you can overcome any opponent or any character.

I noticed a lot of the mistakes you were making were fairly basic. Stuff like trying to dash in while I had guard type active, getting bopped by parry baiting, unproper reactions after substituting, ect ect…but those are mistakes even the best players make on a regular basis. I think I’d have to play you a few more times to give you any advice that’s actually helpful.

Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 E3 2015 Trailer…

Hyped ! Very hyped

http://gematsu.com/2015/06/early-naruto-shippuden-ultimate-ninja-storm-4-copies-include-boruto-sarada-japan

I wonder if the West will get the same type of bonus…

More Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 footage…

Game’s lookin’ pretty sweet so far.

Gonna be pissed if the West is missing out on those four characters though. I’d really like to try Sarada.

Guaranteed to be either Pre-Order bonus or future DLC.

Terrible marketing strategy either way, although one would definitely get them less rage and more copies sold.

If it is future DLC, I hope they do it in the same way Full Burst was done for Storm 3 except with these four characters instead of just one. It’d be perfect if you think about it; they could include a boss fight from the new movie or something.

Although it’d be kind of stupid if the West has to pay for pre-order content just because we’re in a different country.

Still buying this game… :confused:

I don’t know what you mean by that post. :*

Personal Breakdown…

Pros:

~New characters, some we didn’t even expect.
~Loving that new Burning Mechanic, hope to see more stuff like that soon.
~While not a game-changing mechanic, battle damage is still cool.

Cons:

~The counter has been nerfed so hard that it currently doesn’t seem worth keeping at all. Instead of straight heavy punishing over-aggressive players, it now is a mere spacing tool. Some characters can make use of that, but there are many other ways to have spacing taken care of.
~I honestly don’t see the graphical upgrade. I really don’t see how it’s been beautified.

This confirms that Europe are getting the Last characters as Pre-order bonuses…I think it’s only a matter of time NA gets it.

Good shit Geese. I’ll compile all the new videos on the front page when I have the time.

Six Paths Madara looks in-fucking-sane!!

A YouTube video probably isn’t the best way to make that kind of judgement, but either way the graphical difference is still probably pretty minor. I think we’ll see the most difference in the large scale boss battles.

Post taken from Saiyan Island.

Notes:
Ultimate Jutsu is now referred to as “Secret Technique”.
Combination Ultimate Jutsu is now referred to as “Team Secret Technique”.

[Gameplay Changes]

General Gameplay:
All types are combined into one - Secret Technique, Awakening and Support drive can all be used within the same battle.
Counter attack adjustment - CA no longer causes stun only knockback.
Chakra dash can be charged - This does increased damage to one’s guard.
Leader change system - You can switch between characters in your party (Health is shared between the entire party)
Elemental effects - Fire will burn an opponent and do damage over time. Lightning/Water will react to water on the map to increase its damage.
Tilts can possibly be used in the air - needs more confirmation as Madara is the only one I’ve seen attempt it.
A yellow mist will envelope your characters when Storm gauge is more than 50%
Matches are round based - Win 2 rounds to win the match.
Armor Break - characters armor can be broken which will increase their attack as well as decrease their defense.
Jutsu and Secret Technique selection
You can continue to attack your opponent after they have been defeated between rounds.
Melee combo cannot be canceled into shuriken
Everyone, except Sasuke, uses a substitution log (This will most likely change I just found it funny)

Awakening:
Team Awakening - Team awakening will occur after triggering awakening with 100% Storm gauge.
Instant awakening has been removed
Awakening Actions - AAs are now mapped to the item slots and a character can have as much as 4.

Secret Technique:
Secret Technique and Team Secret Technique can be used within the same match - credits to Harurisu
Team Secret Technique is no longer available at the start of the match - Team secret techniques are now triggered the way Team Ultimates were (chakra load x3 + attack button with >60% chakra and 100% Storm gauge).

Support:
New support action “Charge Assist” - Teammate will increase your chakra recovery speed when they jump unto the field.
Support characters no longer have hp bars.
Guard type support adjustment - “Dash cut” guard support action removed.
Attack type support adjustment - “Ground combo” support action removed.
Balance type support adjustment - This type has seemingly been split into two (I will put placeholder names):
STS (Secret Technique Substitution) Balance Type - Support will protect you from a Secret Technique when you have >50% Storm gauge and that Support is available.
CF (Cover Fire) Balance Type - Support will throw shuriken when you throw a chakra shuriken.
Strikebacks can be countered by a support character
Support types are locked to characters:
Kakashi = Guard
Hanabi = Attack
Naruto = Attack
Obito = CF Balance
Madara = Attack
Sakura = Charge Assist
Hinata = Charge assist
Sasuke = CF Balance
Neiji - STS Balance

No more instant awakenings? What the fuck?

Tilting with the right stick is for the tag system. No more instant awakening.

I disagree with all these things, as I feel they take away from the game in a way that’s not necessarily good for it.

However, out of all these things, the Locked Support Types are by far the worst. Storm 1 had it best in this department: there were no types, you either had them use a jutsu or a combo barrage. They weren’t locked into only one option, but they didn’t do much outside of that. Bring back the versatility of supports, don’t limit them even more!

yeah i kinda say this coming when they mention how they went by consumer feed backs. Seems I’ll be sticking with revolution. Most of these changes just dont seem appealing.
