MvC3 Tournament and Stream commentary thread

Japan is responsible for U.S crisis. They’ve been making off with U.S money for a long time now. It all makes sense.

Mindblown

Tron has

  • Arms that negate fireballs
  • s. C which beats A/B teleport
  • lunch rush super that makes her invulnerable
  • A good chip super
  • A level three that you can xfactor guard cancel and win with

Tron is one of the best characters to play against phoenix.

Tron can’t do much to Phoenix. Especially a Tron with no assists or X-Factor. Stop using the character as anchor.

Negating projectiles isn’t really efficent enough at the rate that Pheonix can produce them. Before your recovery frames are over you are likely going to get hit by another fireball, and your normals themselves are too slow to use that negate her pressure.
I never thought of using strong to beat teleports, gonna have to give that a shot.
The chip super has long startup, more than long enough for Pheonix to super jump away
Most people attempt to keep Tron away from Phoenix, so guard cancel into the level 3 grab is a bit much of a gamble.

cr.L from Phoenix really limits Tron’s approach options, and Tron has trouble getting around the fireballs and traps in general.

I think Tron can fight regular Phoenix without too much issue. The problem is when you pop Phoenix and you turn her into Dark Phoenix then Dark Phoenix bodies Tron.

I haven’t seen Tron produce consistent results against Phoenix yet. I don’t think she has the tools to do more than gimmick out a win against her, but the assist is great for putting on early pressure and snapping Phoenix in.

I must be thinking about this wrong because all I can think of is, “Why bother dealing with Dark Phoenix at all?” It’s not like Phoenix can force you to kill her and bring out Dark Phoenix. Surely many characters can run away/defend efficiently enough to avoid taking too much damage from Phoenix and end up winning with a Time Over.

It’s difficult because if your opponent knows that your gameplan is to run away, he instantly has open season on your team.
Meaning he can grab in the air or on the ground for free, go for overheads and teleport mixup without fear.

The chance that you’ll be hit is really high; and if you’re keeping her out with attacks, she can easily eat whatever you do to try to keep her out and become Dark.
Other than running away, there’s no plan to keep her out and not risk killing her for the resurrection.

Time over strategy doesn’t work against good Phoenixes. The best Phoenixes like Tokido’s will recognize when you are trying to lame out and start to rush your team down. If you only have 2 characters left it’s pretty much worth it for Phoenix to XF kill your first character and then just say fuck it to Dark Phoenix and turn on healing field so she gets a 4 to 600k plus health increase for the next 10 seconds.

I think they need to nerf X Factor first before nerfing any other characters.(Maybe nerf the damage or timing or something)

I do not think Phoenix has any true solid counter, but their are some things you can do to her.
For the most part it is a win-win situation with her. Snap her in and killing her can be quite difficult especially against a person that knows how to block well.

The moment that really struck me was in the beginning of the final match between Chris G and Jwong. Chris picked up 2 characters and began a solid combo but instead of finishing the combo he went straight into super after only a few hits causing the combo to drop. Then he wasted all of his meter trying to chip. Chris cracked plain and simple and truth be told, we should not even be talking about Jwong vs Tokido right now. I still think Losers Final’s is the best MvC3 match to date.

Yeah I would have loved to see Chris G vs. Tokido grand finals. As interesting as J.Wong vs. Tokido was it would have been cool to see what Chris G would have come up with in a long set like that.

I thought Chris did a great job fighting against D. Phoenix with his team. To me that play showed that dealing with D. Phoenix one on one is possible.

I thought Chris G had an interesting strategy going with Ammy slowdown hyper. It made the insane herp derp Dark Phoenix speeds into more manageable herp derp speed.
He almost clutched it out in Winner’s as well. Just unfortunate how he lost to both Tokido and Justin.

Chris G did an excellent job. Never seen such a good Ryu in MvC3.

The stream commentary for both stream were great from the KOF to the SFIV:AE.

Yipes salt meter overflowing in the end was just…legendary

This was our stream setup here in Richmond. Got ReveLAtions on the top right, CEO on the top left, Score of lebron losing on the laptop, and a setup for Marvel 3.

I was rooting for Viscant pretty hard, since he uses my team now and all. But the simple fact is that Jay’s team (s) are simply better than Filipino Champs. Wesker and whomever are much better on PHX teams than Mag/Sent/Dormammu.

Jay had such an advantage at round 1 fight, that he could afford to snap in phoenix a few times, and it won him some games. Sure, FC had some pretty phoenix combos, but his other characters were getting beat up, and he lost the DP mirror like 3 of 4 times. That’s not good.

I don’t know what kinda shitty comp that FC plays that they allow him to press buttons after being snapped in: but I use the block, push, pray strategy always.

I think Jay should do a retro commentary on his matches. It’d be pretty awesome. Unless he plans on winning EVO, too.

One thing I’ll definitely agree with on you Renegade is that Wesker or Wolvie plus Phoenix is ready to run this shit for 10 years. Game is done until something is done about the XF system allowing that team to dominate. Now that i see that point character plus level 1 XF can run out 2 characters…I dunno I’m kinda done.

3S until Super MVC3.

Nah I still think this game is fun as shit. Way more fun than Bore Fighter. It just needs some changes.

I don’t really think wolverine is as good in this position, at least in theory. Wolverine can’t really play lame like Wesker can. He also needs meter for beserker slash->charge, and the ensuing combo **doesn’t build meter. **So you really have to pigeonhole your assist as something that wolverine can call before slashing and then combo off of to not use meter and then gain it for phoenix.
Currently, that’s either Akuma or Sentinel.
Either of those characters combined w/ wolverine is about 1.7 million health or so.

Wesker/Tron is 2.4 million.
If you were to get perfected by single hits, that’s 75% of a meter difference.

Running through both Wolverine and whomever w/ Xfactor is a legitimate strategy. Phoenix will only come out with 3.5 bars.

“This is so gay, man :(”
“LOL this dude came over here with a Phoenix man, I can’t even commentate this shit, this is comedy now”
“Tokido is about to collect his 64 points and go home and say ‘hold dat shit america’ Wow  I am SALTY right now”
**“Ten more years, huh?” **
“We need to find an answer for Phoenix, and that’s a patch”
“I need to walk this off :/”

Funny seeing MvC2 pros complain about characters and ask for patches, especially considering how offended the MvC3 SRK community seemed to be when Sentinel got patched.
