I think you’re overreacting a little. People have been trying to pair Phoenix
with top tiers since the start of the game. It’s not unbeatable. I think
Wolverine/Phoenix is probably cheaper because Logan has less bad
matchups and the raw cheese factor after landing a throw.
Justin made a tactical error in the last couple of games against Tokido.
I really disagree with playing the guessing game with throws/air throws
at the start of the round. Its basically like playing RPS for the game.
If Justin loses the initial guess and gets thrown, Ammy/Tron is not
enough to get the job done. Ammy/Akuma might have been enough
to random DP out with X-factor, but not Ammy/tron.
Justin should have backed off at the start of the round and just outplayed
Tokido in a wolverine mirror.
But yeah, James Chen was saying it was mostly a problem with Wolverine
and not a problem with Phoenix. Id have to agree, I’m more worried about wolves

The amount of characters that can run through 2 characters with level 1 XF viably is kinda limited. Phoenix can easily lame long enough with fireballs to build enough meter so that it’s very possible she’ll still get the 5. With that team there’s just too many ways to win. The fact that you have to let go of your XF against a character that IF THEY reach 5 bars will decimate your team with no XF is just stupid.
You have to hope somehow that Wolverine doesn’t kill off 2 characters with the level 1 XF to even have a chance.
Justin Wong needs to get in the lab with Ammy and Tron too tbh. He dropped way too meany of those easy as hell Ammy combos. Can’t really roll though everyone anymore like he used to.
Well this is a different game. Just because the game has the name Marvel on it doesn’t mean Justin is going to roll through people. The fact that Yipes is struggling to make top 16 at majors shows that this shit is just different. This game barely plays anything like Marvel 2. It’s it’s own game and everyone including the best have to adapt.
It’s not even really the ability to run through characters under level 1 XF. Even something like basic combo (under 10 hard hits), reset, basic combo (wolverine dead). Then touch the 2nd character and XFactor or XFactor guard cancel them and they’re dead and jean’s in with 3.5 bars.
What I did like about justin was that he always seemed to save the least threatening person for last, snapping out Sentinel after tokido’s wolverine was dead.
What I didn’t like about justin and many others: not using snapbacks after the initial 5 bars are gained. Even if she’s got 5, still snap her in and try to turn her Dark. That way she either has to burn early XF, or tag out somehow. This then will leave her vulnerable on the jump in if you snap her in again or the 2nd to last character dies.
The worst way to turn Dark Phoenix is if she is the last character and she turns on the ground, allowing her to XF the explosion.
they should really have x factor cost meter and depending on how much meter you use is how strong the x factor is…so it takes care of the phoniex and wolverine problem
This is what I got from the Tokido Vs Justin match. Just a couple of things to note.
Justin used Tron ( a double edged sword) to ensure he would always win the Wolverine mirror, but fell apart when he decided to gamble air throws vs an experience japanese player.
When Justin’s gameplan of winning the Wolverine mirror worked out, he won in a dominating fashion.
Justin’s strategy was only as effective as it was because Tokido was using 2 characters with somewhat low health. Had he tried this against say Viscants team Phoenix would probably be so close to level 5 it would be meaningless.
With Tron out on the field Tokidos Sentinal became completely useless on both ends ( assist and point).
When shit hit the fan and Dark Phoenix came out Justin was completely finished because of his team setup.
Justins Ammy was useless because everything was decided by Wolv / Tron vs Wolv / Phoenix. He really almost could have run an anti Phoenix anchor in the back after Tron and it wouldn’t have changed his game.
Wolv / Tron is the most stacked shit ever. Best rushdown + best assist. I did not pity Justin at all when normal Phoenix took Tron to school with fireball spam. That is how it should be. Players should be encouraged to make balanced teams that make use of some type of projectile. A good example would be Combofiend, who has quite a few epic Phoenix victories under his belt.
Not to dick ride Combofiend, but people need to start using real anchors in these majors too. Spencers not even top tier, just a good anchor and no top player is gonna say they aren’t afraid when Combofiend has his x factor 3 spencer with meter waiting in the back. Go rewatch Combofiend vs Viscant. Its all the proof you need. Yes, Combofiend still loses to Phoenix sometimes. But thats because Viscant is just good. Hes not playing that same desperate game that everyone else is.
Totally agree, if you look at the grand finals series, by Set 2 Game 2 where Justin dropped his combo, Justin had 5 openings on Tokido’s wolverine. Tokido had only 2 on Justin’s wolverine. That’s such a huge difference because of Tron assist.
I agree here too. She just wasn’t relevant in the grand finals at all. He was basically running two characters. I think Ammy+Tron is good at holding a lead, but if your point dies against a Phoenix team, Phoenix is making it to 5 bars. Your next two characters need to be designed to deal with it.
Justin’s strategy revolved around using his X-Factor early too, so it was all-in and then some.
Is there any way to watch Spooky’s streamed archives without letting it load for hours? LevelUp and OffCast don’t have this problem, but trying to watch Spooky’s archives on justin.tv is horrendous.
