Dudes aren’t actually being serious when they do that, its just as a joke, going with the stereotype, most gamers(at least fighting gamers) aren’t actually the pale introvert virgins, dudes just do it on the stream for kicks.
On a side note, clackey doing some stylish sentinel combos on the stream, shit is a tad bit unnecessary but its cool to see none the less.
I’d also like to add that everyone collectively mocking (some of which I really doubt were) a stereotype is as dumb as (if not dumber than) the stereotype itself.
Lol@ Zero not being able to outdamage healing field in a combo… Remember on Day -5 when people were saying Phoenix was the worst character in the game because of her health?
lol the audience was actually booing, the chat is full of ridiculous amounts of salt. Hate on phoenix players all you want but viscant is an incredibly sick player overall. And for all the phoenix’s in the brackets(and good lord were there a lot), only one made it to top 3, I honestly thought it would be all phoenix.
I know right. Remember the early vid where Hulk did standing H into Gamma Crush and killed her from full health? People were like ooohhhh she’s trash. Now look
To be fair though, nobody then knew how ridiculous she’d be in lvl 3 XF.
It’s just something people are going to have to learn to overcome if they want to continue to play the game. On our local stream we had plenty of people getting salty about Phoenix also but at the same time it’s easy to just give up and not use what the game gives you to learn to beat the character. Until they patch it if you’re going to play the game you have to learn how to get around it and obviously people are doing that. We had like 8 people playing Phoenix today because of how good she is and all of that but what’s the point of playing Phoenix if all it’s going to amount to is just going to a major and getting wrecked by better Phoenixes?
IMO it’s still not Phoenix that people have trouble fighting…it’s simply the X Factor. It just lasts a helluva long time if you get D.Phoenix out and then that on top of the fact that healing field will recover her red life at a level where it feels like she has almost 600-700k health instead of her normal 420 it gets kinda discouraging. If XF Level 3 didn’t last that long it wouldn’t be as much of an issue as it would burn out faster and there would be more time to burn yours on her in that situation. I dont believe the character is totally unbeatable just because she turns into D.Phoenix it’s just she forces you to do a lot of picky things and eventually people will learn to get around it. It’s just the XF level 3 that makes the chances of getting around the picky stuff really rough. If she can activate a healing field the XF3 20 second timer is a bit too much overall. We’ll see though.
If I am going to die to a Phoenix in tourney I’m going to make sure it’s like she barely wins. Definitiely going to make sure I know absolutely everything about that character.
This. Level 3 in general is stupid but the benefits that level 3 Dark Phoenix gets from it makes it even more stupid. When it comes to the point where most people are beating her because they are just throwing out random hypers hoping the Phoenix pressed a button kind of dumbs it down. When Dark Phoenix activates it is like ok will the other player land a lucky hyper or will DP run through them in 8 seconds.
XF3 nullifies Phoenix’s life degeneration, increases the speed of her normals and special moves to the point where blocking is impossible…
So yeah, it is of utmost importance that you snap her in. After a Snapback, you can’t switch out for 5 real seconds. You also can’t call assists to defend yourself during that time. It’s during this crucial time that you better have your mixups ready.
XF lvl 3 is the biggest problem with Phoenix by far IMHO. There’s no other character that exploits it as well as her. She gets one of the largest speed boosts (5% less than Chun’s) and she can easily chip out everyone with her specials alone not to mention the insane speed on her teleports. Without XF she can’t sit back and chip like that since her health is draining; so she’s forced to rush down and build meter for healing field.
…Also I swear that Ghengis dude looks just like Bolo Yeung (the big Asian dude from Bloodsport).
For all the phoenix hate, I thoroughly enjoyed the finals, some very nice play from both players and the constant counter picking made me laugh. Was just disappointed justin, combo and floe didn’t show up this week.
Capcom will probably tweak phoenix sometime down the road, but since she is such a new character type, there is just so little knowledge in playing against her. I definitely look forward to seeing how she evolves as time goes by.
still though, more people need to waste all 5 levels they have on snapping phoenix in… i know it sucks and shit… but its got to be done… there is no other way to deal with her unless you think you can block fireball crossup teleport 50/50’s which no one can unless they get lucky.
DP probably wins 80-90% of her matches on WNF if she gets to imbalanced anchor mode. so snapps are the only real way to deal with her… LEARN THOSE SNAPBACK COMBOS.
also i liked viscants throw/frame trap mixup against a tagging in chaaracter… that seems like it could be pretty buff against phoenix teams.
Snapping her in is the easy part… killing her when she comes in is a different story. She has the tools to stall for a short duration until she can raw tag back in. Unfortunately if you do it in the beginning and fail you will have 0 meter to snap her right back in when you expect the raw tag. This is why I try to save up 2-3 meter before my first snap attempt because if my first mix up fails then I can hopefully catch the character coming in from a raw tag with another snap back and try again.
This is why people need to work a a lot on their mix up game for characters coming in… something totally underlooked right now by most people IMO. Take 20 minutes from that damn combo practice and learn some good mix up set ups with your teams for incoming characters and what not.
It still sucks though in the end because the more often you fail to kill her off the bigger meter disadvantage you will have. Most Phoenix teams will have 2 extremely good characters surrounding her to begin with so they will have a plethora of meter while your team won’t. Phoenix just changes the games dynamic so much because you don’t want it to come down to that clusterfuck guessing game at the end where the odds are stacked against you.
Also regarding Viscant… his Wesker was so nasty tonight. Thats how I play my Wesker. Constant mixups/resets which lead into more mixup/resets without using any meter and saving it all for the rest of my team. That air loop he kept landing we have been talking about in the Wesker thread for the past couple of weeks. I think a lot of the players there were just caught offguard because most people only expect Wesker players to go for an air throw after an OTG so their brain is programmed to tech.
Plus people need to realize that teching backwards isn’t the only thing you can do. You can also forward tech and NEUTRAL tech which puts you much lower to the ground and truely hinders Wesker’s mix up game.
