^^ dude i completely agree with all you said. the only thing is though, UNTIL people start snapping her in REPEATEDLY… we arent going to know where she stands in the tier listing (most people only snap her in once or twice and if they fail at killing her they abandon the strat… not only for the rest of that game but for the subsequent games as well) shes high now but what about when people make it there BUSINESS to snap her in and force 50/50’s? it may become a different story.

Well the best way to ever fight a Phoenix to make sure you constantly put them in the stress of losing to one touch. Which is why Phoenixes have been losing to snapping in but again…all it takes is that one match where the snap ins dont ever lead to an actual landed hit on her and then you have to deal with the beast. Which even when the beast comes out unless the other character or 2 left has no health I would keep snapping in D.Phoenix any ways just to increase your chances of killing her the one time you do touch her. It’s not even really D.Phoenix that’s a big issue. It’s her being in a version of XF that takes entirely too long to dissipate on top of having a healing factor. If D.Phoenixes level 3 XF only lasted like 10 seconds it would be a whole lot less of an issue. XF3 D.Phoenix plus healing factor means you have to play super perfect if you dont get the snap kill before the 5 meters.
That’s why I’m not really focusing so much on snapping in Phoenix all day because it’s just an easy strategy that should work. It takes like 2 minutes to come up with enough tech mix ups to blow up a Phoenix early on the snap in. I’m preparing myself for the times when it doesn’t work instead. If getting 5 meters is all it takes for Phoenix to win then it’s really stupid to still put in effort if you have no gameplan to win after that. There might as well just be a rule where you can press start and concede the match and go back to character select. If I lose to D.Phoenix I’m going to make sure it’s the hardest win the D.Phoenix player had to work for.

Good insight. One thing I’ve also noticed a lot is that snapbacks are much less used in general here in this game than in MvC2. I think that might possibly have to do with the fact that there is less of an incentive to snap characters in. In MvC2 if you caught both the point and assist characters, you could double snap and launch the assist the character to their death for an easy kill. No mixups needed when a simple OTG short to mashing crouch fierce does the job there.
There’s also the fact that snapping in someone to put an assist-heavy character on point doesn’t work as well as it did in MvC2. Clakey D showed that Tron can blow someone up when she has enough bars. It’s not like CapCom or Psylocke (mainly CapCom though) who were pretty bad point characters. Many characters in MvC3 that have great assists CAN be decent point characters at the absolute minimum. Haggar miiiiight be an exception though.
It’s so tempting to kill off both the point and assist characters in this game with your BNB + X-factor into another super. But that also builds up a TON of meter for Phoenix in the process.
I don’t know about that. Red life is a huge factor in this game and you really pay the price later for not taking the first chance to snap-in a character that will regen all that health.
I think that part of the meta is starting to develop slowly. Possibly because everyone is too busy trying to land those touch of death combos everytime they land a hit, but it’s going to become more obvious quickly. Particularly with these high health destroyers like She-hulk, Wesker, Taskmaster, Spencer, Superskrull, etc. Letting them escape at 10% life to regen back to 50% is crazy. Dealing with Wesker 1.5 times is too much. Finish your plate!

Of course last week another Phoenix team won and I’m trying to get the scene to get out of its being free to Phoenix rut. I’ll be there again with the X23/Wesker/Doom now that I understand the basic things I messed up on a bit more I should fare better. My brother will probably run his old team again of Captain America/Zero/Felicia (but no more infinites noooess LOL). He might also end up running his new team of Jill/Modok/Akuma so we’ll see.

I’m actually really happy WNF is on this Friday. This week is hell for me with midterms and work ramping up like crazy (I work as a tutor at the college I go to, and people ALWAYS come in for tutoring at like the last minute before exams), and I need something nice to look forward to after a stressful week.
