Noob here looking for advice if anyone would be so kind:
Would Spiderman work well on point for a phoenix team? I was thinking Spiderman/Wesker or Deadpool(Otg)/phoenix. I’m not sure if Spiderman needs another kind of assist to get going, and phoenix will kind of limit that.
Spiderman really needs to have an assist that will provide sufficient space control so that he may either setup up and approach or zone a fellow rushdown character with web balls, web throws, and said assist.
I really don’t think Spidey could fit well onto a Phoenix team because Spidey needs a team built around him as much as Phoenix needs one built around her.
In other news, I have discovered that Spiderman can start full combos from the other side of the screen; Taskmaster H. Arrows assist (alpha)->simultaneous web glide across the screen with j. S. It lands Spidey right in front of the opponent while they are STILL in hitstun. o.O I might have to upload a video later…
Please do as I just added Taskmaster to my Spider-Man team (complete with Hobgoblin colors) so I need setups on top of learning to play Tasky himself (which doesn’t seem too hard outside of his crap mobility).
Put X-23 in the back if you want better DHC potential from the start. Task is the better anchor but there are ways to get X-23 out of the back spot and on to point once Peter is dead.
I was about to say something about exploiting the unblockable with Spidey’s amazing overheads and X-23’s ankle slice, but then I was trying to think of a way to set up the unblockable properly:
Is there a way to use Web Ball in a way that we can hold our opponent in place long enough to set up an unblockable at the beginning of a combo? Like, we could use L Web Ball from afar and wavedash in behind it, or maybe a magic series into sweep xx L Web Ball, then purposely drop the combo for the sake of the unblockable, etc.
I’m just theory crafting here, so I’m not actually able to test it right now.
plenty of ways to exploit the unblockable you just have to be on them. spideys main pressure tools for example. after a web swing call your assist with the first j:m: by the time j:s: hits you should be hitting at the same time but theres plenty of ways to do it. especially off of a knockdown in the corner .
I started playing Spidey (web) , C.Viper (seismic) and Doom (missiles)
with viper spidey can do UWT resets and with doom spidey will usually kill a whole character in the corner with web throw + missiles for 0 meter. Also Viper is another good rush down character who benefits from doom’s missiles. Couldn’t test it on casual games but looks pretty sweet so far. health could be a problem though.
for unblockables to be useful they have to be randomly planned. to do that you would want to solo rush and gauge how they block. go low and hit confirm a few times then go high or stand up then go low again to see what they do. after that you can layer an assist with your hit confirms and then go high. by the time x connects theyll open up for a long combo.
Has anyone messed around with DHC-trick with Spidey? His maximum spider super sets it up it seems, but I have a hard time comboing after it with any character. I tried wekser counter and otg->combo, and I tried it with wolverine after his speed boost super. Maybe it’s just more difficult, or maybe I’m just out of practice?
The wesker one definitely seems possible, I’ve done it a few times, it’s just a bit difficult to link a low m after his otg gun. Maybe a light could work instead of the crouch m, I dunno. Also after the Maximum Spider, the opponent tends to land on an odd side, sometimes I miss the otg because I expect them to land somewhere else.
Anyway the idea I’m working with is Spiderman/Wesker/?/. I was thinking about putting wesker in back and just picking a strong DHC character for the middle like Storm, haven’t decided yet.
MS does not start the DHC trick despite putting them in a spin state, which is kind of weird. He really doesn’t need it though, he already does insane damage that few characters can match.
Haha, this is the team I’m using! It’s great because Spiderman gets so much meter for Viper to freely use whether Spiderman is being awesome and comboing your opponent to death or if he kinda gets hurt and dies ;[
Overall, my plan when using this team is to figure out a way to open up my opponent’s first character - and that character will be dead if I can get my main combo on it (950k with 1 meter, can DHC to Viper Burst Time for over 1 mil. It could kill Thor/Hulk if I was good enough to add some more moves to it, but I’m keeping with what I can manage with my execution right now)
Spiderman can also hit, after an OTG situation, the DP super Crawler Assault after Viper hits them with seismo. Then you xfactor after the wallbounce and kill that characterrrr
Viper/Doom isn’t terrible, although Missiles are more situational, you can still cover Doom with EX knuckle canceled into EX Seismo to stay safe and distract your opponent.
Doom as an anchor is okay. Nothing exceptional. He isn’t terrible though.
Anybody have any general ideas for the best assists to get combos started with Spidey? Right now I’m running Spidey (web ball) Deadpool (OTG) and Doom (rocks). I have tried many different assists, so far Doom rocks and Iron Man unibeam have been the most useful overall but neither seems perfect. Spidey gets a slower L button than most of the other aggressive characters so it seems like he needs a good assist to help open up his offense.
His :l: isnt that bad you have to work on his spacing. As for using rocks it works best when using it up close or when they are put into a situation that they may roll into it to continue being pinned down since it hits on both sides. Layer it on top of some of your attacks and then go from there. Midscreen it sets up for crossups while in the corner it sets up for high low mixups
Rocks have been pretty good for me overall, but it wasn’t quite doing what I wanted it to. I experimented with a bunch of different stuff and currently I am liking Akuma’s tatsu. Depending on spacing, you can dash or wave dash behind it and juggle standing M,HxSting, whatever. Pins down very well in the corner, and is invincible as crap. Not quite as invincible as Tron but pretty close. His DHC’s are lackluster for Spidey but I’ve got him in the 3rd slot right now.
I need to do more experimenting with Spidey/X23 (ankle)/ Doom (missiles)
X23 can work well with missiles. Spidey just uses missiles for extra damage. Ankle slicer hits low so that opens up people better with unblockables, especially after the neutral tech of a webball.
