Good grief…what a bunch of whiners.
No you shouldn’t. That’s where tiers come into play. If you wanna play 3 bad characters, that’s on you. Mike Z made it work, you just need to put effort.
Point made good sir. I can see where you’re coming from. I guess its a matter of differences between competition in societies and whats deemed acceptable. (between JP and US)
Thats how they designed this game, to be balanced, so the Tiers wouldn’t be as widely spread out. Its why almost every character can do a simple BnB combo into super. I believe Seth killian stated many times their main focus was on balance (although he said in contrast that they made Sentinel more powerful than the rest on purpose). Of course I’m (and everyone else crying “LOWER SENT DAMAGE!”) are working hard to fight against it. We’re just not Justin Wong level so its not as piss easy as he made it look.
I’d say he is a solid character and a murder of assists but not in the Top Tier, but it is a little foolish to discuss who the top tier’s out side of the brain dead ones. I mean the likes of Dormammu and most of the cast need more exploring before we can label em X.
Seriously… Superjump+ Projectile owns sentinel hard. He has no mixups besides command throw which requires him to both be close and you near the corner. That’s your own fail.
Many assists in this game allow you to beat him by simply jumping in and blocking, and calling your assist to punish the launcher or low B attempt. If he smarts up and blocks, then do your instant overhead on him while the assist is out.
If he starts tossing HSF as an anti air, vary up your assist call timing and look, he just wasted a meter.
Obviously, good sentinels aren’t so simplistic, but how many “good” sentinels are out there?
Sentinel is 100% more of a threat when he’s off the screen.
- assist
- Counter into Hard Drive
- storm/x-23/deadpool/spencer DHC into HSF glitch.
Top 5 point characters (at this time, in no order)
Magneto
Wesker
Ammy
Phoenix
Dante.
Bonus: Storm, Trish, Akuma, Wolverine and maybe Zero right behind these. You could convince me that Task and Dorm are better than Zero.
Top 5 assists
Gustaff Flame (Tron)
Drones (Sentinel)
Lariat (Haggar)
Armored Pendulum (Hsien-Ko)
Hidden Missiles (Doom)
Bonus: Dante (Jam Session), Hulk (Up charge), Chun(Legs), Wesker (Low Shot), Akuma (Tatsu)
^ Pretty much that, except I’d put Taskmaster up on that point character list…
I will say though, while I think most people here are way, way overrating Sentinel… trade HSF is dumb.
Character balance doesn’t mean team balance though. It’s possible to give 36 characters all some level of viability, at least to the point where none of them are totally useless. But any combination of three of those 36 characters? Not happening without severely damaging the integrity of the game.
I think this game was balanced more for combo potential than actual game play tbh, pretty disappointed at this stage. Dont get how some chars can have the amazing normals and movesets they have, its just like wow wtf. And yeh thats a pretty good prelim tier list above
Trish is decent on point, but her damage output is really…meh.
And Akuma I’m holding reservations on until I see an actual good one on point. Rarely get to see JWong’s since his Akuma rarely has to come out so I don’t know how truly solid his is.
People keep forgetting that part where you have to pick and play 3 characters and how well they work together is just as, if not more, important than how they are individually.
Trade HSF is supremely retarded, I agree. That’s why I usually just resort to my assists fighting sentinel or fighting him from superjump height.
But when you boil it down, sentinel’s threats are Hard Drive, HSF, Low B (slow), S (slower), Frying Pan, and Throw (either).
I like Taskmaster. His damage is pretty ridiculous for how easy his combos are. However, he still needs to land 2 beefy combos to kill. He can probably kill the low life characters with one + DHC.
My main problem w/ him is he can’t really open you up like most of the characters above him. However, before the storm DHC glitch, i would have put him ahead of Storm based on damage alone… and I can be swayed on Zero. Being #10 isn’t so bad! Which characters would you move him ahead of? I can’t see any.
Trish’s damage output isn’t jaw dropping, but she’ll kill you in two combos just as the next guy. What sets her up there is Round Harvest tag in stupidity, general trap annoyance, and how freaking good those sword normals are.
Akuma has almost everything you want except a tri dash. Shinkuu is stupid good, combos are good (including infinite), Raging Demon is good, etc.
If your execution is good enough, Taskmaster does over 900k in one combo. As for opening up opponents, I would agree that’s a weak point for him, but he has some tricks, like calling a low assist while using Web Swing to set up unblockables.
So I’m supposed to take the advice of the guy who tells me to fight Sentinel with my assists? Dude, that is the absolute dumbest shit you can do against him.
And here you are with a tier list and Sent isn’t even in the top ten? Really it boggles my mind. The most vocal of the bunch always end up giving the worst advice. It never fails.
I know Akuma has everything he should have in order to be great and a threat on point. Except the only real thing I’ve seen anyone actually put to use in high-level play besides his basic BnB’s is his Messatsu Gou Hado Tengyo (I believe that’s the beam…the Bible says which is which, but I don’t have it out right now). Like I said, I’d like to see more people develop with him more in actual games before I put Akuma on that pedestal.
Well, I like to use Tron, Haggar, or Hsien Ko, and the only thing Sent can do against empty jump+ any of those assists is to Hyper Sentinel Force. A lot of other assists can work too depending on where they come out when you call them.
And sentinel blows on point. Stop getting hit by frying pans and crouch B.
That’s the hard part. I would have said Zero, but I’ve seen some pretty interesting tricks he can do, and once he’s inside he is pretty good at maintaining momentum. A friend’s been experimenting with some reset situations instead of the standard relaunch OTG rekkoha combo and I’ve had a lot of trouble blocking some of them when he’s got the right assist behind him.
Her traps are really really handy, and she can get pretty good damage off fairly random stuff if you’re good with switch sign and abusing her traps. I’m also really starting to like her dive kick. It’s quick, covers pretty good vertical space, has a fairly nice hitbox, and on hit it leads to a full combo, on block she can either go for a low or fly cancel for an overhead pretty quickly afterwards. It’s not the best mixup, but it’s pretty low risk for her. Round Harvest qualifies for the DHC glitch too.
Not really, you just have to be careful with your assists.
Tengyo = air version IIRC. But yes, that beam is godly, so is his tatsu… his demon flip combos really hurt too.
Round Harvest qualifies (news to me) but how often are you going to hit it? Besides, it’s not THAT big of a deal when she probably won’t hit it by way of comboing very often, so a reset on damage scaling shouldn’t be too huge compared to what you’d usually do with Round Harvest into Raw Tag tricks.
He meant it qualifies as a DHC glitch ENDER, not starter.
Ah, in that case, that’s great. I think we should get some abbreviations or something to specify because I’m already getting confused.
The people crying Sent are the loudest, not sure where you’re looking. And those people are giving the worst advice: Whine until Capcom intervenes.
Trying to get shit done? Oh the horror. Sents damage is retarded obviously and so is X-Factor, BOTH need to be re-scaled.
