I dunno Sent is pretty ridiculous in his current form.
Lets go over a few of the more questionnable design decisions:
-Obscene damage from practically any range (cr.MxxS shouldn’t combo from over half screen distance).
-By far, the easiest OTG combos off a throw in the game. In case your opponent tries to tech, Capcom decided to give him one of the most potentially lethal command throws in the game. To top it off, if it whiffs, he can just cancel into HSF which also happens to be one of the safest supers in the game.
-Super and Hyper armor on his already long reach normals make him fairly indiscriminant when comboing. Range is not really much of a consideration. If you call an assist while using these normals, the risk becomes practically non-existant because even if he happens to trade rather than absorbing the hit, Sent will probably still be in range to tag you with his launcher. No other character can just “throw shit out there” and hope for the best. His launcher should be way worse than -8 on block. Almost every other character is at least at -15 when theirs is blocked. Consider that Sent only does his from half a screen away and it becomes fairly obvious that it’s practically unpunishable. I could deal with MvC2 super armor on the normals (during their entire animation) because it would be stuffed by jumping fierces, but this is ridiculous. Permanent super armor would not work either because Tri jumps are severely watered down and you rarely use H with them. He would effectively become immune to cr.L (just like in MvC2, which was retarded considering all his other boons).
-Also, people need to stop saying that teleport characters “own” Sent. He just has to cancel into HSF if they ever teleport behind him. Even if he trades, he wins. Stop playing shitty Sents.
-HSF hits on both sides, does tons of chip, gets the benefit of X-factor even if it’s activated after the super, plows through practically everything, leads to retarded damage afterwards and is safe on block.
-Hard Drive is one of the most invincible supers in the game; making Sent one of the few characters who can actually punish Okami shuffle. Can someone give me even one good reason why Sent has this?
-10 hit combos should not do 900 damage. Conversely 30 hit combos should not only do 50 more damage. Where’s the incentive to do fancy shit when Joe dumbass gets the same reward for sucking? Capcom needs to stop coddling people and just provide a good tutorial system so people can properly learn the game without needing stupid crutches that do nothing but make the game worse in the long run.
-The most Health in the game (to go with the giant robot theme I guess) and consequently the best healing from X-Factor in the game. Most people don’t realize this, but he really does heal more health than anyone else in X-Factor. This just makes his already huge life advantage that much more pronounced.
-Speaking of which, size is supposed to be a detriment right? Then why is it that shit tons of combos don’t even work on Sent? He has the same weird effect on his hitbox where he pushes people away like Rog and Hakan had in SF4. Test this out in practice mode; hit Sent with a jab from point blank range, then do the same against any other character. Notice the difference? Now for even more stupidity, do it while he crouches. This makes it really hard to throw him as well because he will usually be just out of reach. Also, alot of air combos don’t work on him because of his weird “lying down” hitbox when he’s being juggled; his feet tend to push you away. Same shit in MvC2 since he was heavy and tended to land earlier (his feet “touched” the ground early i certain air reel animations); but at least there were alot of ground infinites that only worked on him.
-Greatest benefit from X-factor. Honestly I don’t know what the fuck they were smoking when they chose to give himone of the highest damage AND speed boosts. I won’t dwell on this because pretty much everyone is in agreement on this point.
-Drones is one of if the not the best assist in the game. Can’t count the number of times, my point guy gets hit, but Sent still shoots out the drones and I get to combo off the 3 hour window even though I fucked up. Also, Sent (for some reason), comes out behind the point character whereas almost every other assist in the game jumps into harm’s way immediately. Do I even need to say how retarded that is considering he has more health than anyone else?
-Frying Pan should not cause a bound. He already has tons of ways to cause fucktons of damage. Randomly landing a frying pan from the top of the screen should not conveniently land you in front of your opponent’s bouncing prostrate (soon-to-be) corpse so you can leisurely hit him with your oh-so-difficult 5 hit combo into death. Instant j.Hxj.S becomes scary as fuck for 0 execution because of this.
-His air normals negate projectiles. Bet most of you didn’t know this.
I guess I could go one, but you get the idea. Seriously, you’re in denial if you keep insisting he wasn’t designed with retards in mind. He’s the Balrog of the game. All reward, very little effort and skill required, almost no cons.
I’m sick and tired of people yelling “scrub” every time someone mentions how stupid Sent is. Frankly I think it’s more appropriate the other way around. I really can’t think of a scrubbier character in the game. I’d hazard to say that most people defending Sent in his current state probably realize they wouldn’t be able to random out nearly as many wins without him so of course they don’t want him nerfed.
I totally disagree with you about Thor. He has tons of potential, but people are too hung up on easy results. I really see him as a Dark horse. His reset potential is absolutely unreal. He’s not that slow at all. His tri jump is definitely one of the better ones in the game when you mix in his excellent command throw. Tiger knee’d L mighty strikes are safe on block, armored, plow through projectiles and lead to tons of damage. Characters with 800 life should be really scared of him.
Sure, he takes a bit of effort, but I bet someone will pick him up pretty soon and start to impress. He can kill anyone with 1 reset and no meter. People just haven’t stepped up, that’s all.
