Mvc3 patch: Let's get system direction in there

This is where I feel the argument that Sent isn’t top tier or whatever falls flat. I don’t use any of those characters you listed with good strats against Sent. So why the hell should I be FORCED to build my team AROUND Sentinel if I want to win against one? I should be able to pick whoever I want and still beat a competent Sent player. But as of right now thats not possible with all characters. So until then I’m stuck cheesing it with DPhoenix level 3 x-factor even though I suck with her.

loled hard. Love this

That’s one of the basic foundations of the vs. games…

LOL, I was waiting for that comment.

Personally, I don’t think Sentinel belongs in his own tier, though I would agree that he is on top of the chart. The way I see it, he basically has the best touch of death potential. One mistake and you will lose a character - maybe two, and then you’ll have to deal with a very hard hitting character who can move somewhat fast for a small while. However, he relies on you making mistakes. He can’t really get much going so long as you can match his zoning game. I think the reason most people have so much problems with Sentinel is because they think they can press the offense once they neutralize his zoning game - this is wrong; you still have to take it slow and respect Sentinel’s normals. Once you do the fight becomes quite a bit easier so long as you remember that Sentinel cannot do normals without fear of getting punished (stop using advancing guard) and that you will need multi-hitting moves if you want to try pressuring him. Alternatively you can just have a teleport available. If you’re going one on one you won’t even have to worry about Sentinel calling in an assist to knock you out of it. Sentinel simply has too many problems to be in his own tier. Furthermore, I’m completely against nerfing him in any way.

Do you know what scrub means? Scrub doesn’t mean you suck. you can be amazing at anything and be a scrub. Scrub means you enforce silly rules on how you play that aren’t within the context of the game because of a sense of honor or w/e that you may have.

Just to drive it home a bit further, they banned Seth and Gouken too. Not a soft ban. A full on you are not allowed to use these chars ban.

what

See the way people use the word scrub nowadays does not hold that context. You call someone a scrub you’re saying they suck, they deny they suck, and they will never learn to play to not suck and make excuses for their losses. Also is it really considered scrubby if the whole community accepts it? The Japanese played it that way no questions. If we were to hold an ST tournament and say Akuma is banned, would that be scrubby? Then again this goes into a whole other discussion about the definition.

That needs to be changed. It’s ridiculous. I’m ALREADY HITTING YOU, BUT YOU CALLED YOUR ASSIST MOMENTS BEFORE I STARTED CAVING YOUR FACE IN, SO YOU GET OUT FOR FREEEEEE.

That craps sucks. How much more murderously good would MSP have been with that feature? Any invincible assist is going to rape hard with a system like that in place. Add in the fact that most assists are invincible right after they attack too. I’m tired of watching them standing inside active supers, taunting, then leaving the screen. No.

Edit: Supers completing after you hit the point character is just plain stupid. Hit Sent, and HSF continues. Hit Storm and Hail still rains for full damage.

I’ve hit Storm right as the screen flashed, ate the Hail, then she immediately did another one and both hit for horrendous damage. She could have XFC’d and gotten a third if she felt like it. Thanks CAPCOM.

Because most of the people here like to be able to just mash buttons and win, super armor and a decent beam means you can’t do that against Sentinel.

Dromammu is a top tier candidate?

This. Except you forgot Taskmaster.

In general though, beating Sentinel involves having at least one of these: Strong keepaway, fast rushdown or teleports, good mixups, or the ability to attack off the X axis.

I don’t think people realize how weak Sentinel’s options are off the X axis, all he has is frying pan, which requires him to be above you and close.

No, scrubby isn’t banning something that’s overpowered and cheap. Scrubby is declaring something overpowered and cheap without bothering to research and explore the game enough to determine if that concern is legitimate or not (cough MvC3 Sentinel)

Dorm is solid as hell.

Only thing that really needs to go in my opinion is the ability to block in both directions on Hit Boxes.

That shit is just ridiculous on so many levels.

On everything else, I feel like shit just needs to pan out. All this bitching about X-Factor and Sentinel pisses me off so much. Those kinds of people are no better than some CoDaholic 12 year old.

Yeah, M.Bison is solid in SSF4 AE but isn’t Top Tier, heck he was Solid in the other versions but wasn’t top tier iirc.

My bad.

But then that goes back to my question: If the community the rules are made in (in this example the JP community) and are fully accepted, does it make them scrubby because we don’t use those rules or limitations? Its not like the Japanese are saying we’re cheap noobs because we used Gouken or Seth or O.Sagat.

I thought he was top tier in Chocolate Super? Then nerfed slightly.

I agree about the hitbox thing. But how many people use hitboxes I wonder? I’ve never really seen anyone use it in a tournament. Very curious to see if anyone would abuse that.

But then you have to ask why are you really banning these chars if you acknowledge they aren’t overpowered? Oh, because you don’t like how they are played or you think they are annoying? Come on. Really? That’s just ridiculous. Japanese themselves acknowledge Sagat loses to Claw, Rog and Sim. So then why? Because of honor or because the char invalidates the rest of the cast. Well that’s too damn bad for the rest of the cast then. They can’t fight Sagat. Oh wellz. Just have Rog in your back pocket and ur good to go. And it also comes down to what they community can tolerate too which is also trash. Rog is way more bullshit then O.Sagat. But was he soft banned? No. So why O.Sagat? There are many reasons why and we all probably know them and we all probably know it’s just bullshit that doesn’t have any real credence to it at all. I could sum it all up as, “fighting Sagat is annoying because he throws shit at you all day and you die to chip damage, and that’s not fun so fuck Sagat.”

Is he annoying? He sure as hell is. Was that a legit reason to say he should be soft banned? Hell fucking no. That’s scrubby as hell and everyone here knows it.

He’s top in super. And I’ll say Dorm is up there, not tippity top, but low-top high-upper or whatever. His only real problem is he loses a lot of his options if he doesn’t have assist support, at least against faster characters.

No, not really in O.Sagat’s case… though a softban doesn’t actually mean anything. The Gouken/Seth situation does feel that way though, since they were banned basically immediately, without any serious testing or play.

I wasn’t saying Sent should be banned, just pointing out that he is by far the dumbest character in the game. No one else comes close to the reward for how little skill it takes to play him.

I realize it’s Marvel and everyone will and should have some ridiculous elements, but Sent just breaks the mold. Also, I forgot to mention he’s probably the best assist killer in the game.

i think both of you misunderstood me. I know its not a glitch. Its a feature they put in but the way they worked it in the programming of the game is what they did wrong.

They made it so if an assist or “outside character” is not ok, then nothing can be done to him. That it includes be called out to help, aerial tagging, DHCing and being snapped in. They made the programming a binary 1 to 0 style where the character is either 100% able to play or completely off the radar which is stupid. The “assist ok” activates on tag outs and on assist usage.

They have to edit to specific situations like mvc2. MvC2 also had the “assist ok” also but if you snapped in a character that still wasn’t ok, they would still come in which is suppose to happen.

In the snapback scenario, when a player has pixel rage or super low on health, he can tag and in the mind of the opponent, he is thinking “well, they have a feature from mvc2 called snapback which is suppose to be able to bring in a character of my choice to punish, so I think I will use that” SNAPBACK character C comes out and now its like “WTF, now I have to fight a full life of character C and try to get a combo to snap in character A before he regains health”.

This doesn’t fly.

Yeah why did they ever change this?
