MvC3: I'm Doing This For Mutantkind: The Magneto Team Thread

I want to try out a Magneto/Storm team but I’m trying to decide if I want Sentinel or Doom missiles assist. I see a lot of representation for both of those shells so I’m curious as to what are the strengths and weaknesses of each assist compared to the other.

Though if I could really have my way I’d rather find the most “msp” team comp. if possible.

Missiles - Covers good vertical area, wonky conversions, can be used to style/extend combos, difficult to set up resets with, missiles remain when doom is hit. Better for zoning and lockdown
Drones - Covers horizontal area, easy conversions, can be used to style/extend, easy mode resets, drones dissapear when sent is hit. Better for rushdown and reset

Other things you might take into account are whether you’re better with sentinel or doom, your survivability on snap in with said “assist” character, xf 3 comeback potential, etc etc.

If you’re looking for the most derpmode assist out of the two, imo it’s drones by FAR. Missiles takes practice, matchup knowledge, good instincts, and lots of work on converting stray hits. If you can’t reliably air-to-air/convert off of missiles, there should be no question on which assist to go with

Thanks for the quick and concise reply. I guess it shall be Drones. I like rushdown and resets better than zoning and lockdown. My only concern is getting lamed out by characters like MODOK who can just chill at the top of the screen. I figure it might be a good idea to have a second team for those lame matchups though. Chun/Storm/Akuma can’t deal very well with certain teams xD

You have to play pretty patient with Dante anchor and abuse Devil Trigger. You will open people up sooner or later no matter how long it takes, just you just can’t go ham like you normally can with Dante on point with blockstrings into teleport + assist or stinger into teleport + assist. He has great matchups across the board in Devil Trigger and his incoming mixups are stupid with Acid Rain, since you don’t use million dollars to kill in XF3. You can use Multilock + Hysteric + Drive + Acid Rain + Airplay to cover your mixups but dont be predictable and change your patterns. He’s definetly not booty, just has a long learning curve versus some characters that can just mash and kill your entire team even after 1 day of practice ( wink Strider,Wesker,Vergil, Phoenix wink)

How can you hate Dante as a character though? He’s so fun to play with so many options. Real talk though, if you want to run the real cheap shit with Magneto you’d want to run Magneto/ Dorm or Morrigan/ Doom, or Trenchcoat/Trenchcoat/Magneto(aka team scrub), or Zero/Dante/Magneto. Magneto/X/Doom is not as optimized for Magneto on point but it’s hella good.

morrigan is just not my kind of character. if i’m playing a character and i touch you, then that character has to die within 5-10 seconds. i’m not gonna sit there and throw bullshit all day and hope morrigan doesn’t get bopped.

dorm on the other hand seems like a more solid choice. one more question though, how fun is dante to play? only ever played and beat dmc2. every other dmc game i just watched combo videos of since i couldn’t afford the rest of the games (got lucky with finding 2 cuz everyone i know act like a stingy bitch). i really know nothing about this character other than word of mouth and some combo clips

I’m the same way blooda, that’s the main reason I won’t run morrigan on my main team. She can dish out damage too, but it’s silly the amount of execution required.

I’ll probably regret saying this, but until someone proves me wrong, I would say that morrigan’s legit bnb probably has one of, if not the, highest execution requirements in the game.

Dante’s the second most fun character to play IMO after Magneto but I definitely understand why most people aren’t going to pick him up. He takes alot of work for him to be good and he’s quite assist dependent. Dante’s the easiest character next to Morrigan of the top 10 to be shitty with if you don’t know what you’re doing. He has alot of tools but he’s lacking in the ability to just explode on you like alot of the other top tiers. Having those tools is quite nice but his lack of a decent throw game, his difficult conversions, and his slow as dirt normals are holding him back. There’s actually a reason the only two players that have found good success with him in Ultimate are Yipes and PR Rog and even then, they play other teams that don’t include him most of the time. I have him around rank 7-8 in the game.

Dormammu’s combo damage output actually isn’t outstandingly high compared to Magneto without spells stocked (both do like 800k), it’s really more that Chaotic Flame has a ridiculous minimum damage scaling and Dormammu with momentum behind him is godly. If you play Magneto/Dormammu/Doom and you’re winning with Magneto and have the opportunity to set up your offense with Dormammu, it’s amazing. However, if Magneto dies, you can definitely rush the shit out of Dormammu. Filipino Champ is making the team look alot more godlike than it is just because his defense and fundamentals are phenomenal. Wolverine with momentum will shit all over the team if you let him get it for example.

Morrigan’s damage output is actually not bad either, Alioune has a corner combo that does 650k before meter but it’s ridiculously hard and it’s just begging to be dropped in tournament.

The one Magneto team that no one is playing anymore but they really should is Magneto/Zero/Sentinel. Magneto/Zero and Zero/Sentinel in general is underplayed since you actually have to know your shit with Zero for the team to be good but Drones makes both of these characters so fucking good.

I don’t know what alioune uses but it’s probably the same bnb I use with her. It can be used anywhere on the screen though. The point I was trying to get across is yes, it’s ridiculously hard and yes, I doubt there is a single player who can hit that combo with at least 9/10 consistency. The real kicker is that if you have even a solitary multi-hitting move in the beginning of that combo, it will shave off a solid 200k from the total damage.

Zero/Sentinel… I can’t even imagine. I mean I could, but I don’t wanna.

watched some gameplay of yipes, and bee dante is clearly a good character so i don’t know what i was thinking about him being bad. i’m practicing shot loops and acid rain stuff with him as well that devil trigger joint you talked about. man xf3 devil trigger is retarded lol

not to mention the fact that either frank or magnus can take good advantage of each others assists as well jam session…god damn this team is cheap

I would focus more on practicing setups and neutral rather than combos for Dante tbh. His neutral is sorta un-intuitive.

what sort of setups and stuff can dante work with? i use j:h:, j:s: weasel shot and hysteric a lot of times but idk how or if i can convert off of those. any advice?

I can’t believe some people still believe the troll SRK meme that Dante is ass. Dante is top 10 at worst, and is a top 3 support character, the only thing that’s actually ass about him is the start up of his moves and his minimum damage scaling.

Yeah I agree with Dino. Don’t worry too much about Dante’s combos, and his XF3 combos are fairly easy for the damage they do(use his Day 1 BnB, it doesnt kill Million Carats xx DT jS Million Carats link Volcano xx beehive will do the job) and his most advanced Solo BnBs only add 50k more over his day 1 BnBs, so I wouldn’t bother with any of that stuff and it’s a lot more easy to drop, the combos build more bar but don’t lead to more damage due to his 5% scaling. Work on your confirms/mixups + Neutral, master Stinger + assist BC teleport and boxdash jMs/jHs and learn Dante’s confirms, Dante with Disruptor is pretty much only blockable by guesses or autoguard too. The useful specials for neutral are Drive/Crystal/Airplay/Hysteric/Acid Rain/Reverb xx Fireworks and jS xx Hammer to get people off you. Offcourse in Devil Trigger Dante gets Thunderbolt and Vortex, the two best specials in the game.

For jH you can confirm with stMH anti air or anti ground. After Weasel shot you can link normals depending on the range or simply link using an assist(since it counts as a normal), or just reverb xx fireworks. Hysteric completely depends on how it hits and where Dante is, dont worry too much about confirming and use it as a way to get in. For jS, off super jump height or a delayed confirm use cold shower xx prop shredder, on a grounded confirm use volcano into jMH killer bee backdash S H Wall bounce. Both are in the Dante combo thread.

st.H xxWeasel Shot, call Disruptor, teleport crossup H is dirty as fuck. You can also delay the crossup H and go for a double crossup by letting them block the Disruptor and doing a box dash M/H after your teleport.

I play magneto anchor and I’m wondering if there’s anything I need to do differently when playing without an assist.

Would a Spiderman/Magneto/Strider team work?

I mean it would work, but to really get full mileage off of a anchor strider team, it’s good for at least your point char to pick them up. I’m no spidey expert, but I’m pretty sure he can do this with his zipline, though I don’t know how easy it is to pick them up. It might not be as derpmode as wesker pistol or dooms st. m/h, but it would work.

@MrCam - Depends on what you’re currently doing. I don’t think I would change my game plan much with mags as anchor. All I can say is if they try to lame you out or you’re having trouble opening an opponent up, throws are great. Good setups are hard enough to tech already, and when you have xf 3 mags rushing you down with tridash heavies, you’re usually not expecting a throw - and a throw in xf 3 with mags should = an easy tod every time
