MvC3: Final Justice! The Captain America Thread

I’m already in my room pretty much every day working on Steve and friends aka Bionic Justice (lol random team name I came up with). Once UMvC3 comes out…that could spell the official last time I see sunlight from anything other than a window. :slight_smile:

Wow, glad you guys stayed strong. :slight_smile: I’m coming back to the fold after a detour into spiderman land. I submit to DJ and Gimpyfish’s wisdom that I have to build a team around cap for him to be usable. I’m looking at Cap, Felicia, and either wesker or deadpool for the low and OTG assist that will help cap out. It feels good to be back guys!

anyone notice any new vids for CAP from gamescon? i’ve been watching some but so far no one is playing CAP…argh

What kinds of setups do you guys use on incoming characters? Been trying to do something other than shield slash call assist and cartwheel

Depends, on an incoming character in the corner, I call thor and let the first his of MS come out, and cartwheel before the second hit. That way it forces my opponent to block while they enter, and my cartwheel before the second hit causes a cross up and usually gets them.

Normally I just time a unibeam assist midscreen, that way if they try anything funny like random supers, they’re low enough to the ground I can punish it. But otherwise it’s low enough to throw them off and for me to combo off unibeam, ideally.

I LOVE playing Cap, he really is fun. But i hate the fact that you do have to gear assists towards him.

Anyone have an effective blockstring + assist which they can cartwheel in between to get an effective mixup? I’ve had shaky results doing this with sentinel midscreen, less than stellar results with doom’s molecular shield (it seems that even if i cartwheel, if they are blocking it just auto corrects their block… like they always end up facing the right way.)

I usually back off just far enough for them to be unable to punish Chris and make my cartwheel ambiguous, then use it during the machine gun fire (Or prepare an anti-air/teleport option if the character can fly/teleport. A good one vs fliers IMO is Chris covering the bottom and j. SS (M version) to cover jump/fly height.).

I’ll also sometimes call Chris late and from 3/4 screen distance, then Charging Star H to cross up. It doesn’t really help me combo (I think I can cancel into Hyper Charging Star, but IDK. I don’t really do that much since I would rather try to start combos with my back to the corner.), but it gets me a bit of damage and makes them think Cap has more mixups than he actually does.

You either need to cartwheel sooner or use an assist that has breaks inbetween the hits. That’s why Sentinel’s is to good. If you delay the cartwheel, you need something that’s a little scary otherwise they’ll just smack you and your’re assist. I mentioned this in the other thread, but felicia’s assist is REALLY REALLY fricking good. I’m going to try it out this Friday and use some cartwheel tech with it. It can cover cap’s charging star M for sure. I’m still iffy about the range/timing for H, but it can make it ‘safer’. I’m not sure if it leaves you in “Happy birthday!” frames, but medium charging star is covered good enough for a throw, instant overhead, low mixup afterward. Oh yeah, the 2nd hit is LOW! And felicia isn’t a bad character herself, so yeah.

I don’t know if it’s worth noting, but if you’re caught doing a normal when someone goes into a counter super, you can take advantage of the ability to cancel into cartwheel from any normal before they come out. I know everyone is already aware of the cartwheel cancel, but it’s especially useful in situations like this as I recently discovered.

Your preview got me hype, but I want it NAO. Better make one for umvc3 alot sooner in its life span gimpy. In your video I just realized that if you start a team with Stark, Hulk, Thor, they all fall from the sky. So at the beginning of the match there’s no characters on your side :stuck_out_tongue:

I was watching in your videos that your Iron Man is severely lacking compared to your Cap and Hulk btw gimpy. I do think, running the avengers team will be a lot more viable now, hawkeye is looking really good as keepaway with an attitude, Stark’s zoning capabilities are looking amazing, and we all just saw Cap, nuff said about Steve Rogers. Oh yea, I’m sure hulk got better too besides :f:+:h: lol, the only one left is to see how has the Son of Odin changed.

I was sort of hoping it would be the air version cause it would be fun to tiger knee it. this is cool but I dont see how it will help his corner combos at all…

some cap combos that may be possible now umm CAP magic series(ABC S BBCS) in the corner then OTG to ultra. ABC S BBCS , call ryu tatsu, OTG, relaunch BBCS to OTG ultra.

he should still need an assist to relaunch in the corner, but this is good enough to earn my allegiance to CAPatalizm.
