MvC3: Final Justice! The Captain America Thread

I saw it tonight (in 3D no less since it was said to be very good 3D)…so far it’s for me EASILY the best of the Marvel movies. That’s saying quite a lot since I REALLY like all of the movies they’ve done so far.

Cap’s movie was completely AWESOME, not just because it was Cap, nor because of the epicness that is the Avenger’s trailer at the end, but because it was just a really good movie all by itself. (those other things just made it even more over the top good)

(if you’re worried about seeing 2D vs. 3D…for only the 2nd time ever in my life I’m going to say see the 3D version! It was done EXTREMELY well unlike all the other 2D to 3D conversions of the movies not shot in 3D natively)

So um on top of getting double jump, I heard we were getting invincible cartwheel. Not confirmed yet though so don’t quote me on this. I will definitely try to play it during EVO and update here

There is no invincible cartwheel nor should there be. Very confirmed from the comic-con build.

I’m not saying there should be, I was surprised to even here about it. Like I said it wasn’t 100% but I’ll be sure to check it out

Some invincibility on it would be nice. Like his version of the cartwheel in MvC1 for example. You could cartwheel past someone’s fireball and punish them for it. Or the first few frames of a beam. Only thing about his cartwheel was a hitbox you could sweep him out of with a normal or throw him(with the right timing of course). If they whiffed a move trying to sweep him you could punish them from behind. An evasive move that could also be used for crossup/mixups.

Small things like this help without making him OP. Saying an evasive move like his cartwheel shouldn’t have some invincible frames is like saying a dragonpunch shouldn’t have any. It didn’t make him broken in past games and I doubt it would make him broken here.

But he truly doesn’t need it. If you cover it with an assist it works fine. If you want a move buffed to actually get past projectiles safely (LIKE IT’S SUPPOSED TO!), then I’d just say to remove some of the ending lag on L and M Charging Star so that you don’t get punished for going through a projectile from 3/4th screen away.

I think double jump would be enough, I even think the shield slash buff (if it’a true) is kind of just icing on the cake at this point. Buffs are buffs though so I’ll take em. It’s better than random nerfs that’s for sure.

Cap’s movie was fucking amazing, they showed everything I love about him as a character. I went crazy towards the end when he had the shield rebound off walls. Makes me wanna work on my Cap game in mvc3 lol, glad to see they ave him back his double jump finally, and increased speed to shield slash is a real big buff as well.

In your opinions what other buffs should cap get?

being able to cancel cartwheel with a jump would sure make ME giddy just sayin :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

If they made the Cartwheel throw invincible, i’d be happy. Being able to be thrown while Cartwheeling seems just weird to me.

Honestly the buffs he is supposed to get are already really good. Like I said before, I would like to see a little less ending lag on L and M Charging Star, but then a double jump would be a suitable replacement.
Also if we could buff his assists a little, that would be great too, but then again, with all the buffs he’s supposedly getting, I guess I can’t be upset if that doesn’t happen.

Oh and I agree, the Cap movie was awesome. Probably my favorite Marvel movie so far.

I think it would REALLY help his mixup game if cartwheel had some sort of invincibility, maybe not complete invincibility. But to some level would really help, when I play against one of my buddies his morrigan crouching hitbox is so small that I can’t use cartwheel since she can duck under it and mash buttons. I have to approach her from the air with either jump heavy down or jump special for an overhead cross up.

I’m a HUGE fan of Iron Man, I have tons of Iron Man merchandise. But I gotta admit The First Avenger was the best Marvel Studious film by far. Can’t to see his second outfit in action.

Does anyone who likes running the avengers think’s hawkeye will be a great add on to most teams? I hope his trick shot otg is an assist because that could help cap with extending combos and possibly increase his mixup game.

I cover cartwheel with Chris’ assist and it works fine. Any beam should work too.

I’m also a fan of Iron Man…and I 100% agree that The First Avenger is the best Marvel Studios film by a significant margin. (my previous favorite was Hulk, though IronMan 1 was a close second)

As for Hawkeye, I’m watching him VERY closely to see if I can fit him into my team. I’m really loving my current lineup (Cap/Spencer/IronMan), but auditions may go on once Hawkeye gets here lol. I imagine the smartest possible spot to put him would be in place of Stark…but I’m not sure yet if I’m willing to do that as Cap and Stark are my two most used fighters so far. (they both surpassed Wesker earlier today at just under/over 1500 matches each)

I do feel my current team works together very well, but they’re still young so we’ll see how that goes. (about 260 matches with this team so far) I did have a GREAT set today with a guy running Chris/Deadpool/Spencer. He ended up beating me 10-4, but it was FAR closer than it seems by the numbers. Roughly 75-80% of our matches came down to a single mistake at the very end meaning death. I was pretty upset with myself a few of those matches…ESPECIALLY the last one because I had the win no problem…until I miss a super easy execution. The final match I ended a combo with Iron Avenger (spencer and stark left vs. only spencer), I got the dash as usual, then did OTG smart bomb…HASTY CANCEL PROTON CANNON!!! I was sooooooo mad at myself for getting too antsy and stopping the smart bomb from coming out which would have easily won me the match.

Oh well I learned a HUGE amount about his team, and we’re gonna do it again soon. He did msg me and say I have a very solid Cap, which always puts a smile on my face. :smiley:

Can’t wait until I get my Spencer up to that level too, so my team is that much more threatening.

But I see Hawkeye will be a great addition to any team, I’ll probably replace and swap out thor with him. I love hawkeye’s long range ability, and status affect arrows. But I don’t know if he’ll be a better anchor for me than Stark. I use Stark more than Cap, (by a few matches) so it’ll be more of a handicap if I take him out. I’m not sure of how well hawkeye can handle close range that’s my only concern with him.

According to Seth, his close-up isn’t too bad. He said something about him being mainly mid-range though.

It’s got some pretty interesting stuff, though nothing on Cap in particular.

Reporting from EVO

The Ken BnB combo doesn’t work now the final shield slash after the re-launch the characters flip out. Cap seems faster but it’s probably because I was jizzing over his double jump. Somehow cartwheel pushes a knocked down character farther away. For example in the corner I do a simple B B C air combo, call in Wesker, Cartwheel then relaunch from the other side then finish my combo. Now, I do the same thing and the cartwheel somehow positions the character farther and gunshot doesn’t hit. Might just be altered timing. That’s all I have for now.
