MvC3: Final Justice! The Captain America Thread

I’ve been doing the same thing lately after having a pretty sweet run-in with Trish. The H.slash has it’s uses that’s for sure, it just takes a while before you finally realize what they are, and more importantly what to do with them. It’s helped me a lot with being safer with the stars&stripes as well since there is less risk when you’re not so sure you should throw out the more risky dp.

You also get that sweet followup to go with it, I took out a Skrull the other day after blocking his Inferno. He was just above my head, and it was totally weird since I’d never really used the move much (that I noticed)…it just came out at first opening, and I freestyled a combo (that looked 100000% planned lol). I didn’t even realize what I’d done until I watched the video later on. I knew I killed him because of the H.slash, but I don’t know WHY I thought to do it (instead of jump and punish), don’t know HOW that combo just poured out either lol.

I guess I’m becoming one with Cap.

I also hadn’t been using his crouch L more than I had been. It’s really hard to use strategy online though. I’m trying to learn how to play and dudes just mash through everything…and it works :frowning:

Keep toughing it out online, and you WILL find actual good people who are trying to learn just like you. I also am a very big fan of using the review/rating system on xblive after fighting someone. It has options for choosing to avoid a person for reasons of being unfamiliar with the game, lack of skill, etc. I usually choose that when I can clearly see that someone is just not good at all, but not if it looks like they just aren’t up to my level yet. For those people I usually send a message offering them any help I can give if they’re willing to ask for it.

It also has the option to prefer a player, that makes it easier to get into a session with that person even if they’re not on your friends list. I’ve met quite a bit of people over xbl the past few weeks by using that system, and just entering player matches fishing for new people to train with. I haven’t run into anyone that has been a real dick about anything really, some rage quitters (had a hilarious one last night), and one or two that call you a spammer/masher after destroying them lol.

Just keep at it, you will find the good stuff if you keep going into player matches, and of course using that xbl player review system. You can even avoid someone for them being TOO GOOD lmao.

As for Cap’s moves, I’ve found that c.M has it’s uses as a punisher for a missed poke in certain situations. I’ve found that the low string that She Hulk uses (at least the one I’ve run into), and Sentinel’s c.M, both put you outside of the c.L range with Cap. I started using c.M instead on those situations with good success so far. I still prefer using c.L as the opener of course, but if you’re too far out it’s better to get the damage than try to move in to get a c.L…thus missing your opportunity for a punish.

I’m still learning what all his other normals are for outside of combos. I like using s.H (from range) to control ground space when the enemy isn’t right in my face, and I usually cancel it into one of the shield slashes to control even more space. It’s pretty amazing how much space you can control with Cap with a good assist, some well place shield slashes, and his normals.

Still working on moving around with Charging star.

Good shit to Ken making the front page

YES!

Don’t know if its been mentioned but cap can take advantage of the dhc trick. Pretty situational but whatever. Land a throw with ammy do the slow super (vale of mists?) then dhc into charging star. CS is fast enough with the slow to leave you in time to catch the falling opponent. You can just l. charging star them repeatedly and if you have the meter, super or try to sneak in a down exchange if you don’t. I think charging star might whiff in time for some of the other dhc trick set ups but I haven’t looked into it.

hmm nice. i thought at first that cap can’t capitalize on a corner specific dhc glitch but I forgot about the slowdown. now time to learn how to play ammy.

I’ve been playing Cap a lot more recently, and while I’ve pretty much got a good grip on when/how to punish most characters, I am still having trouble punishing Ammy and Pheonix, and to a lesser extent Dante. After what moves (on block) is there time for me to land a Cr. L against those characters?

Also does anyone have any tips for fighting a Dark Pheonix with Cap?
I hate it when I run through a team with Cap, but then my entire team goes down because none of them (Cap/Skrull/Chris) seem effective against DP. I mean I know DP is a problem in general, but this team seems to have huge problems with her.

Cap doesn’t really do well with DP, I usually just let him die and hope for the best with a random Hyper Charging Star. Superskrull is your best chance against her just because him in X-factor + Meteor Smashes just destroy DP when she chucks out a projectile. If she decides not to, Elastic Slam into OTG into an air combo should work.

well with phoenix and cap. I usually try and find a corner and stay there. Hold up+back and do random air d.h. also it’s kinda good to know that cap can wipe nearby fireballs with his charging star.

Hmmm… Thanks guys. The main problem I seem to have against her is the teleport actually, ESPECIALLY with Skrull, since a Pheonix with Skrull experience will try to bait you into Meteor Smashing then teleport above you for a free combo.

Assuming the Dark Pheonix goes rushdown, does Cap have a way to start a combo? It seems like in close range I can’t punish anything and am just waiting to get chipped out. Thanks to the range on those feathers, she can usually do this without even being in Hyper Stars and Stripes range either.

I agree though, Skrull seems to be my best bet so far, with Chris in second (I literally just X-factor>block with Chris to try to time her out and read her teleports for air-grabs, since she can’t just chuck projectiles at me all day if I just sit there shielding.)

Dont quote me on this but those little flame things count as projectiles which means you can charging star through those, the bad part about this is her normals still have normal properties on top of that so you might still get stuffed unless you space it correctly but that’s still unreliable with all that shit on the screen when she presses one button. Cap can destroy a lot of people, unfortunately DP is not one of those =(

Use the team hyper to punish teleports cuz if I recall, team hypers come out in 1 frame. So if you can sniff out a phoenix teleport it is a free punish for a team hyper

Haven’t played in a couple weeks - the gamer in me is very unmotivated. I could use some motivation!

Gaming and or heroic and or American inspirational stories please.

Don’t have to be yours, don’t have to be competitive, just need a gaming pick me up!

Not all that epic, but was playing online the other day, and my team was getting wrecked (I fucked up hard and got both Skrull and Chris assist caught in a Hulk combo.). Cap’s the last one left, I combo Hulk for roughly half of his life, pop X-factor since time was getting low, and pepper him with shield slashes after I drop my combo. He misreads me and expects a j. Shield Slash L and does a Team Hyper Combo with Hulk, Ryu and Akuma (No, I have no idea why he did that either. Maybe trying for fancy overkill?). Since all 3 were projectiles, I immediately Hyper Charging Star and kill all 3. The guy immediately rage quit.

Chin up soldier!

really hope they have spectator mode on super mvc3.

Figured I share this, this board was a lot of help in coming up with some of the combos. Nothing too extreme in here, but it’s a bit of a roundup of what he can do. Hope you like it.

That was awesome

I loved it. That Cap style combo at the end was sexy as hell too.

Out of curiosity, do you DHC after the Hyper Charging Star in your BnBs and how much add on?
