MvC3: Final Justice! The Captain America Thread

I’m sure you know what I meant. Just, many times I’ll SEE it coming, and I’m still getting used to blocking the other way AND blocking high (yes, I’m a bit scrubby when it comes to blocking), but I’ve noticed some moves you can just kind of start spamming as soon as you see him teleport. So I guess the question was more of, is there a ton of timing that goes into this, or is it just see the teleport flash and start smashing S?

Time it don’t mash hahaha

I didn’t mean to come off as obtuse - I just thought you were asking if you should S upon seeing the teleport flash. That’s why I answered the way I did. I don’t mash it, but I just see the flash and then hit S. Cap will automatically face the right way and do the attack. The only wrinkle would be if the dante player buffered a dash and tried to cross up, but there is still a good chance the S would win since Dante needs to cross over and since he’s airdashing cannot block.

Gotcha. And I didn’t mean mash it as in spam it like crazy but more like hit the button a few times just to make sure your S comes out before Dante ruins your life.

I’m looking into a new third character as Iron Man has awkward normals with deceptively bad hitboxes when compared to almost any anti-air hitbox.

Cap and Hulk fit my style, and there are others that do the same… sadly Iron Man for me feels a little forced. Looking for a new projectile, and honestly contemplating picking up Arthur again (I say again because I played him week 1 LOL) but there are many many options.

I dunno Gimpy sounds like Arthur would be best just gotta save him for last super armor and arrow spam lol. I use Morrigan for my fireball close to midrange. So I really don’t have long range options. I think Iron Man or Doom is the main options with beam assists. I think with Cap’s speed fireball either assist is to fast or doesn’t last long enough. Damn I can not think of much.

I’d go with Taskmaster. I play him on my team, just not third, but I think he’d make a good third character.

well you definitely need some kinda anti-phoenix character or someone who is effective on lvl 3 xfactor.
sentinel drones improves cap’s ability to land a hit after snapping in a phoenix and sent is still pretty damn scary as lvl 3 xfactor.
dormamu is a really good anchor, especially with meter cuz he can practically chip anyone to death. dark hole assist can also serve as the projectile assist.
arthur is great against phoenix but his comeback potential is not that good imo.

you ever seen arthur in gold armor with x factor chip out an entire team in like 10 seconds because i have LOL chips teams out WAY faster than dorm, but the character isn’t great on his own for sure. but i dunno man i loved x factor level 3 as iron man hahahaha but other characters have similar options… i’ll hit the lab when i finally get my xbox plugged in so i can practice hahaha

Well if ya love IronMan keep em just get better with em lol. I guess with IronMan time out her ass :). I thought Iron Man felt gear towards running and gunning or something. Although Flash Metroid makes him look sick.

I vote stick with Stark, but that’s just me. I have been looking at replacing 1 person on my team for the past week or two…but I just can’t really seem to justify letting anyone go just yet. For now I think it’s just smarter to put my time in, take my beatings, and learn as much as I can about all of them.

Honestly I love everyone on my team even with their shortcomings. (Cap/Wesker/IronMan)

The only ‘good’ strategic thing I’ve been thinking of doing with the team is swapping Wesker and Cap’s positions. That would give me back my excellent DHC ability with Cap to Stark again, and Wesker gains two excellent assists to help either kill the entire opponents team, or at the least build a ton of meter for Cap and Stark to use. Cap does great with meter, but he can kill you without it just as well…and Stark with 3-5 meters in the third spot…AND an Xfactor!?! You can kill 99% of the cast with just 4 meters alone off a pretty basic combo, and he becomes even more of a monster when you add Xfactor.

I’m still not sure though that I’m going to go through with the switch (it’s in slot 3 of my pre-setup teams for now), because honestly…I think I’ve fallen too far in love with just playing Cap on point.

I love Iron Man and he is AMAZING if you can force your opponent to BLOCK but ANY ANTI-AIR beats ANY IRON MAN NORMAL.

it drives me crazy lol

Can’t seem to TK Cap’s Shield Slashes , but I can do it with alot of other moves. Is there a certain way that I’m supposed to TK that’s different from everyone else’s?

just don’t tk shield slash, do it quickly but jump first to get the lowest point of throwing it - you can’t throw the shield immediately upon jumping.

There is definintely a technique to doing the TK slashes with Cap. The L slash is pretty easy, but I’ve only ever done the M slash once…though I haven’t practiced it enough to really figure out the way it has to be done yet. Instead I usually just do a normal jump, and throw out the shield at the lowest height possible (depending on why I’m throwing it of course).

Even once you learn to TK the slash you have to be careful with the L slash since you will change the angle, and that will change the amount of ground it covers. That of course can make it useless if you’re not paying attention to where you are on screen. It might help though to keep some of the shorter characters at bay (Wolvie/Zero) since a normal jump L slash will usually go just over the top of their head leaving you momentarily open. Ask me how I know lol :stuck_out_tongue:

On another note, I’ve been getting very good success lately conditioning the opponent to block low to cover my low attacks…that leaves them open so that I can get that sexy crossup S leading to big damage.

Pay attention to your jump range, and work that into your game if you’re not already doing it…ESPECIALLY at the beginning of a round. It seems that I hit it there the most lately, don’t abuse it of course because it will get you blown up. I also use a lot of empty jumps to work on their mind more and more.

anyone else think that it’s dumb for cap to be unable to block after an air shield slash. I hope that gets patched.

I think its fine - makes you think before acting. But if you land you can block after just one short frame and knowing Capcom they are more likely to patch out the ground recovery than make it better in the air.

I agree, I don’t really mind not being able to immediately block after an air slash. I think it makes it more fair that way, and you actually have to think about what you’re doing instead of going berserk lol (pun not intended…but works lol)

It would be FANTASTIC if there was no recovery time on the ground slashes, it’d make things a lot easier to startup some offense on the ground. I would LOVE if Cap got a boost to his closeup offense ability. That could go a long long way even with the long cartwheel recovery, lack of invinciblity, and lack of distance options.

I originally didn’t like H Shield Slash but I’ve found that it’s pretty useful for keeping reckless normal jumping in check. I’ve fared significantly better because of it.
