You’d think we’d see more with JWong using her and all.
ITT people trying to convince other people their characters are low tier so they feel better about losing?
Funny isn’t it? Or people that gravitate to characters BECAUSE they think they’re bad. Its either a messiah complex, self destructive tendencies or fruitless rebellion against the status quote. You pick. Either way I call it an excuse waiting to happen.
Talking about OP? (Storm, Tron, Trish, Phoenix in low tier)
Which is why we need top players to win tournaments with supposedly low tier characters (even just once is fine).
So then egocentric folks can man up and start learning2win (play?) rather than making up some lame excuse about so and so is OP
Now, you’re talking about the assist that you don’t even always have access to? The one that requires you to put the char in, use up a bar of meter that could have been used for guaranteed damage in combos or something, and then switch back out? And then when you call it, it’s out there long enough and obvious enough on the screen that it’s easily punished by lots of supers? It can get people off of you, no doubt, but I don’t think it’s top 10 at all. I’d have quite a few more assists ahead of that one even past the top 10.
As for Doom rocks, that’s what I’ve been using since the game came out in Shehulk-low/Doom-rocks/Spencer-highgrappleorpiercer (depends on the matchup), but I’m about to switch. I originally thought that having a slow moving swarm of projectiles to use as cover on Shehulk and Spencer’s entrance was good, but after playing more myself and also seeing Justin and Combofiend play, I no longer think those characters need that kind of wall. Also, the rocks just aren’t very durable, they lose to lots of things unfortunately. I’m gonna go for a faster projectile assist that beats more things, and I’m looking strongly at Magneto-disruptor. I thought rocks were a top 5 assist at first, and now I don’t have them in the top 10-15.
I’m not sure about Doom, personally. He seems like a poor man’s Magneto to me. Similar high-low-crossup mixups up close, but slower and more easily blocked. Similar options for getting in, but slower and more vulnerable. Similar keepaway game, but slower (although more durable) beam, worse full-screen punish options, and slower runaway options. I don’t think Doom is bad at all, I just think that as a character he’s kinda preempted by Magneto. You pick Doom because you like him or you want missiles, and I think otherwise you go with Magneto.
Just throwing this out, but Josh Wong played Joe at Winter Brawl and made top 4. Not sure if he ran him the whole way (he used him to replace Phoenix in the top 4), just sayin. Also at WB, Ryry ran Haggar to counter Justin’s Tron, but had trouble on point vs Ammy. Haven’t seen the others.
The more I see of Taskmaster, the more convinced I am of how good he is. Great damage, long-ass combos, follow-up damage off throws, he’s a tank health-wise, can fire his super in any direction (including a full screen counter while jumping) and yeah, two amazing assists…The worst thing I can say about him is his foot speed is slow.
the only “execution heavy” part of viper would probably be the 1f TK cancels (mainly pressure, unless you really want to risk an entire combo just for 50k dmg) and maybe the seismo chaining (which isn’t really that hard tbh). someone like jill is a much more execution heavy character.
i think iron man is pretty solid all around. good assist, dmg, rushdown, ok zoning. and taskmaster is really good too
You basically described 90% of the threads on Srk. From picking up girls, to eating well to, yes, even playing fighting games, people tend to talk out of their asses. The louder and more certain they are about themselves, the less they usually know.
You have come to this conclusion in less than a day and a half?
Just a random frustration, but the heavier execution character in my opinion is Chun-Li. Her BnB is definetely the hardest among the ones I’ve tried.
Yeah the real team scrub could probably change later on but for now if you wanted to put a team together that’s just like got easy ways to get damage and all has good health i would put that team together. The team isn’t the most death defying thing in the game but its definitely probably the easiest to just put ridiculously simple gameplans together and just get going. Taskmaster probably takes more work than Keits said he does but he does a ridiculous amount of damage once u learn his combos at all. I know another person was saying that Sentinel can get lamed out and has his bad matches but that guy is absurd in level 3 KFC. He might get lamed out or he might kill everybody. You just dont know till it happens.
The funny thing about Clockw0rk and Buktooth is that well…Buktooth’s Doom was like day one Doom that took pretty much zero advantage of any of his pass through advance guard movement techniques (except for maybe air dash down forward after H foot dive). Even then it was still looking beast because up until Clockwork no one was doing any of those BnB’s or even had the balls to put Doom on point in the first place. Pretty much most of the US other than Clock and Buk reduce Doom to the new Psylocke just riding on a strong assist assuming he’s meh on point. I watched some of Clockw0rk’s stuff and although it looked really good and he had a strong high low game with the dash jump cancels im not sure if he was employing all of the block string techniques that he’ll more than likely have at high level play. I’ll have to watch his recording afterwards.
Not saying that I would be able to come close to employing all of that stuff right now but with what I’ve been messing around with I’ve pretty much come to the conclusion that if Doom pushes u relatively close to the corner and then hits u…you’re gone. It doesn’t even matter what he hits you with as long as he hits you you lose if you have low health, lose if he DHC’s into someone else if he has 2 meters and lose if you have She Hulk health or less and he has 3 plus meters. This is considering he already didn’t take health away from you with some plasma beams from far range before. If that’s the case then u may as well just consider Sent dead also if u land one hit plus level 3 at the end. Which when all of his anti push block techniques are learned this should be very possible.
I thought about that before posting, but yeah, afaik he only ran Joe once he was already in the finals, and he didn’t win. The only other Joe player I know is FlashMetroid, and imo that character is part of the reason he didn’t do as well as some other players. Again, maybe he’ll get super awesome with Joe eventually, but these tier lists are as of today, and as of today nobody is really making Joe work yet.
As for Haggar, if I made a tier list 2 weeks ago I might have Haggar higher, but everyone figured out how to deal with Haggar pretty quickly. Run away and shoot at him with your point or assists, block when he’s at max pipe range, jump airthrow when you’re close to him. Yay!
Haggar is derpy. I wish they made him into a smarter character than just some random grappler that has a couple more tools than the average mahvel grappler. It’s a bit harder than it is to do against Tron’s air H but if you guess he’s going to normal jump forward at you with pipe you can just air dash under and hit a crouch normal that anti airs into juggle also. There’s a big vulnerable box under him as he’s coming down that’s only masked by the stupid range on his pipe. High risk but high reward if you get it. Characters with long range solid anti air hit boxes like Wesker can just press c.M if he gets too close with the pipe and hit the vulnerable box and launch him up.
I would say there’s more chance of him being reduced to godly assist character than Doom unless people figure out more about him than pipe spam and command grab ticks. I guess he would be too good if that was the case…but meh.
I wouldn’t go so far yet as to argue that Thor will be better than him in the long run but once he’s figure out I feel he will have more options especially if covered with a good assist. A grappler with an air dash down forward L that can go into huge damage is pretty big. Especially if people learn how to set up frame traps and grabs off of that. The first time he grabs you he instantly puts you in reset after you lose half your life to another situation where u have to deal with a possible untechable command grab while he’s in the air and if he lands that you’re probably dead. Even with the air dash though he’ll probably have a harder time getting in than Haggar so until more is figured out about him you wont see him a lot.
Thor is pretty awesome, someone will shine with him soon, just not me.
Actually, plasma beam assist is pretty good for… exactly what you’re describing. Though generally I agree with the idea of Doom being a slower Magneto, and less devastating hypers ( sans sphere flame )
Yeah, I don’t know, I’ve been seeing a lot more people go with Plasma Beam assist now. Did I miss something?
Buktooth praises it in the MvC3 as being one of the best overall assist, but it was probably due to Wong using it with his Zero/Felicia/Doom team.
… yes…? it doesn’t take more than a few days to realize what kind of execution you need for optimal combos for some characters. even with day 2 combos you can see the direction jill is heading with her canceling options
It creates setups with characters like Zero in the same way Magneto’s assist does.
