MvC3 Actual Balance/Potential Tiers Discussion

It’s also an invincible crossover assist…

Right, actually had forgot about that one.

Not that it is very useful, but it’s nice when getting chipped up close by something and using the untechable knockdown to score a lvl. 3 or something like that.

They’re good, but nowhere NEAR good enough to warrant an anchor spot. And if your assists don’t warrant that spot, then you better be damn able to handle yourself in a fight without assists, and Chris can’t, ESPECIALLY if he’s behind.

sigh, unfortunately with the way they designed Chris, there’s no patch in the world that will make him better than how he is now.

Not true, if his specials (guns, mines, maybe back C too) were a bit faster so he could fight other zoners and/or have legit anti airs, or if he grenade launcher could actually juggle again so he had DHCs worth something… or even a little mobility to compliment his midscreen style play… he’d be gdlk.

Uh, yeah, there’s actually a couple of ways. Faster specials (it should not be THAT annoying to TK his specials), make his Grenade Launcher combo into itself again (since as of now that hyper is absolute trash)…actually, just those two alone would make him much better. Either way he shouldn’t be anchor, he should almost always be point, but at least with fixing Grenade Launcher, him being second wouldn’t suck because he could burn meter outside of Level 3’s.

it’s not total trash. He can combo into it and in the corner, it’s a snapback after the super

I didn’t check this thread because I thought it is way to early for tier placement, but damn, I never knew it could be THIS bad. I’m of course talking about Chris, and people who don’t know what they are talking about.

Firts of all, Grenade Launcher isn’t trash, and yes Chris can chain it into itself (against a standing character, works the best with Spencer’s assist) and even juggle into it using L and M grenades. It is also deadly during THC’s because of its abnormally high damage for a level 1.

Again, he CAN juggle into it, and even follow it up with Flamethrower for 760,000 damage. He just needs an assist to do it. And if you saved your Ground Bounce he can end this with a Sweep Combo for about 960,000.

^Um, they were talking about his viability as an anchor in 3rd team position and the scenario after the 1st and 2nd teammate dies (meaning no assists to back him up).

I know we have been talking about it on and off, but can we spend more time talking about a tier list regarding assists, the best assists, along with the overrated ones.

Some really good ones IMO (no order).

  1. Sentinel’s Drones: They are insanely good for zoning, stay out for awhile, do great damage, and can extend combos.

  2. Tron’s Gustav Fire: Comes out really fast, Tron has an incredibly small hitbox and is basically invincible, very difficult to punish, a great move that forces the opponent to keep their distance that also can lead to combos and resets, good damage too.

  3. Doom’s Hidden Missiles, while Doom stays on screen for awhile, they are incredibly good because they interrupt combos from your opponent ALL THE TIME. They force the opponent to stay grounded and block, they can be comboed into not to mention they hit OTG.

Overrated assists: Both Morrigan and Ammy’s charge assists, because meter building isn’t too difficult in this game, and they both (especially Ammy) have way better options.

RE: Dante stuff…

I think his big strength is going to be his normals, in the end. He’s so damn good at whiff punishing, and you always have jump cancels for safety, even when whiffing, since it’s a special move. He has the versatility with all his other moves and the mixups with his teleport but all in all, it will be his normals that make him scary.

BTW how does everyone feel about Ammy?

I would include Doom’s Plasma Beam, Iron Man’s Repulsor Blast and Unibeam, She-Hulk’s Torpedo, Taskmaster’s Aim Master L and Aim Master H, Shuma-Gorath’s Mystic Ray, Amaterasu’s Cold Star, Dante’s Jam Session, Haggar’s Lariat, Wesker’s Samurai Edge, and Akuma’s Tatsu in any list of good assists in addition to the three you’ve already posted.

Cold Star is nice but if you’re not super careful with it you end up with a dead dog.

The same can be said with catching any assist really, only diff is it takes a little less to kill the dog.

Except the dog is out there a lot longer than most assists.

What Saitsu said. Also if you get behind her then that can easily be goodbye doggie.

Viewtiful Joe is grossly underrated, IMO. He’s a versatile character with a ridiculous high/low game and great zoning, both of which are enhanced with the right assists. I also think he deals with Dark Phoenix well because he can run away forever.

Doom Missiles is overrated. The assist is team specific and a double edge sword.
