Someone will come out of the woods and play Viper in time - I can guarantee this because hardly anyone knows the matchup so it’ll be advantageous for the first ones through the gate. Folks need to be patient before asking Capcom ‘to buff her so more people play her’ (wtf are these people thinking). Just that there’s so many more characters you need to work less to get more gain from.
Anyway…
Phoenix is in my top 5. She destroys the logic to a team in this game because her XF3 DPh form is simply ridiculously random. She doesn’t need her two other team members to do anything but get her the bars. It’s also helped by them + her dying as well, so it’s not really 5 bars. Once you have those 5 bars, the momentum shifts into the Phoenix player’s favour.
Because she was designed to OCV as DPh, there’s not much you can do facing her in XF3 but pray that you’ve blocked correctly. Sure you can try laming out regular Phoenix, but she’s a good character in her own right and can still OCV by unopposed mixup because you aren’t willing to kill her.
On the other side; No team chemistry will keep you safe from DPh; because she does that much damage on a whim, assists become unsafe / most don’t hit her when she’s hovering in the air. You just have to watch for her slow moves and hope to score a lucky hyper, imo.
If I recall for all you Taskmaster fans who talk about his counters…don’t the counters do shit damage while risking the touch of death most of the time? Even “Secret Moves” the super counter does mediocre damage.
I second this as well. I was sort of trying to bring up this point about Wolvie earlier as well before some of his fans got offended. <_<
Wolv is tight, but I fully expect him to slowly slip down the tier list as the game progresses. He’s one of the few characters that has shown his full potential very early into the game.
I feel that people are going about fighting DPh the wrong way. You don’t hope/pray that you blocked correctly, you rush the bitch down because if she mixes you up or ranges you out, you’re dead for sure. If I catch you in blockstun ONE time, you’re dead. She does not have any weaknesses in her attacks because they are all cancelable. You try coming out of blockstun and that’s a hit for me (even in Regular Phoenix).
As far as I’m concerned, if she turns into D Phoenix, you’ve already lost. Some character like Doom can Xfactor through her blockstrings and level 3, but there aren’tmany solid strats to use against her.
That’s only for people who use the first two characters as throwaway characters lol! Good phoenix teams have resilient 1st and 2nd characters + they are support for Phx and Dph.
I think he meant the opponent has already lost. or maybe i’m wrong.
I’m not doubting jean’s ability as a point character but that’s the thing. Until Dark phoenix happens you’re team is limited in their options. They can’t THC (but who does anyway), DHC, Alpha counter, or call in pheonix as assist cause she might get punished and kiilled in one small combo. It severely limits your team options as a whole.
Now granted once you have Dark pheonix and an x-factor she becomes the most stupid good anchor in the game but that’s only at that point. Before then she’s a decently solid character with very lackluster assist who can die WAY to fast.
There is enough shit you can do in most situations.
Also don’t try to super her through stuff. That is exactly why smart phoenix players always make sure they have at least one bar when they attack, so they can save their own ass with 236AB invincibility.
Maybe you could get away with it if you have an instant grab super, but in that case she won’t get near you.
Magneto must have an assist. It’s the Sent assist that makes him probably the best in the game.
Also phoenix doesn’t need “assists” but needs a team that was chosen especially for her, and they need to give up on using supers.
Wolverine is never the last character. He’s always the 1st, with an assist ready to use, with it he can do amazing things and that’s what matters.
I’ve been maining Modok, Viper, Doom/Dante/Dorm for quite awhile now and the only one of those characters that has top 5 potential is Viper. People are going about playing her all wrong though. Her health is too ass and her air normals are too ass to play rush down Viper with no strong coverage. Sesimo chaining looks cool and cuts off offensive patterns, but doesn’t really net her any damage on hit. Her defensive options are the best in the game though in my opinion. With 1 meter and 1 assist you literally can’t touch her without getting blown up for a 100%. With her ability to cancel out of her Focus attack and with tons of invincible moves. Burning kick loops do way better damage than box loops and are way more consistent.
I feel like people are overestimating MODOK. There’s gonna be a point where people see some crazy combos and think that makes him good…when in actuality he’s really not. I’ve gotten to the point where I can do upwards of 950,000 with 1 meters, 1 dhc and no understanding anywhere on screen (over a mil easy with understanding), but he still has alot of trouble just landing that first hit. He only has 1 low that is terribly slow and telegraphed. Slime is technically a low, but its hard to bait someone into it because jumping in on MODOK is so effective. His jump flight mode has a glitch where you can’t air block 2 consecutive hits after block a ground hit and his hit box is waaay to big. He also gets instant over headed as bad as sentinel. Not so great as an X-factor anchor…terrible health… alright as an assist. His throw range is not so great (a big deal in MVC3), but he CAN do a ridiculous damage off of one though. I will say he can be very, very annoying and take out a whole squad with a few shield setups and strong assists. His corner game is extremely nasty and being able to combo into jamming bomb makes him 10x better. He also can keep pressure on pretty well with flight mode cancel from instant airdash normals (can’t be push blocked). Overall, I’d say he’s a little better than sentinel. Top 10 probably coming in 8th/9th when its all said and done. In this game…that’s a complement. There are just tons of good characters heh.
Dante is top 10 easy.
Dorm…top 15 easy.
Doom isn’t bad with a good assist. He has the same problem as MODOK. It’s extremely hard to open somebody up with him despite his normal-dash cancel without assist, though he can kill you in 1 touch. Once people figure out that footdive leaves him free to all kinds of damage, its gonna be impossible to get in with the guy. He’s pretty beastly in X-factor though.
You can use healing factor to cover some of her health issues and honestly if you have to use up your X Factor before D.Phoenix is the only character left standing you aren’t playing her right. That’s the only way she should ever come down to having to put up a serious fight.
The whole point of Phoenix is not so much the original character and her tools (although that is a big part) its basically a matter of how well you manage your meter and ability to deal with being snapped out. If you can manage meter and snap outs well XF level 3 D.Phoenix becomes very accessible and pretty much a surefire win unless the opponent gets lucky or super crafty about something. Especially if you stock D.Phoenix up with 2 or more meters before she has to get out there and put up a real fight.
Yeah, honestly, losing X-Factor, Dark Phoenix is the only one affected, but she gets hurt a LOT. She’s pretty much wouldn’t be allowed to play keepaway, she’d have to rushdown, and all her meter would have to be devoted to Healing Field unless she’s going to win the round. She drops a decent amount in any character rankings.
But idk…people hate her enough as it is, so I don’t think they’d care if she was sacrificed in order to get rid of XF.
This is the same shit as Gouki for all these years.
Jean is retarded. She is MADE to be retarded. So the logic is, “Ok this bitch is dumb and we made her that way, but we gotta make it so she can be stopped in some fashion. Just give her low health so her opponent has to only guess once. If they get lucky then she’s done. If they don’t though, then they are completely fucked.”
Her health doesn’t make her any less amazing. It just means you aren’t allowed to be human (make mistakes) when you use her. So potentially she is unstoppable, but in practice human error is ever present.
No its not even that, Its not about making a mistake, Phoenix can lose more than 50% of her life to chip damage before touching the ground and in some cases all 100%. The pressure than can be put on her is worst than the pressure she can put on you because random block strings that do chip can seriously hurt her. god forbid she gets command grabbed…
Phoenix is a good character not dumb or OP…
Dph is a good character but random
X-factored Dph is OP
All of those examples constitute the Phoenix player making a mistake. ELord is right. Phoenix’s margin of error is so pathetic that it makes the fight fair, but let’s be honest here: You don’t beat Phoenix. You can’t. You wait for the Phoenix player to just lose.
The only anti-Phoenix strategy I’ve seen that doesn’t revolve around that is snapping her in and blowing all your meter, and often XF) as she tags in before she touches the ground. Even that requires player 2 to greatly outclass and outplay his opponent to enter that scenario.
