MvC3 Actual Balance/Potential Tiers Discussion

Keits and Skisonic in the wake up SRK podcast recently gave their picks as to who they thought was the current top 5.

I think mine would go something to the tune of:
Phoenix
Wolverine
Magneto
Zero
Amaterasu

let’s try it one more time: That video contains the phoenix player making a big mistake, and losing. That was my original point on this Sent v Phoenix discussion, that the Phoenix player has to play very well because of the threat of those two moves punishing her. However, I also pointed out that in both cases that is a punishment, and a very patient phoenix player can avoid situations where hard drive or cr.M will destroy her and that the reason I feel it’s a bad matchup for Sentinel is because he doesn’t have a lot of tools to get in on her and open her up on his own. Now, theoretically, you’d click “reply” to this and offer your opinions as to how Sentinel can open Phoenix up or force her into a situation where she has to risk hard drive/cr.M in the first place, without throwing a pissy fit that someone happens to disagree with you.

I’d agree with that entirely as of right now, though I can imagine Wolverine maybe getting replaced down the road if people become more consistent with some of the other pixie rushdown characters, his execution might be propping him up a little, emphasis on might though.

Thats mine to but replace Wolvie with Wesker imo

And the above post are my feelings exactly on Sent vs phoenix but moreso Sent vs anyone, he has tools to fuck up everyone but everyone with smart blocking and good position can keep themselfs safe from those tools.

I could understand your arguement and at first I was interested in reading the discussion between them as well. but then it turned into “Your arguement is wrong because you didn’t read my post.” and “Well your arguement is wrong because you aren’t reading my post.” type things and that’s what was getting on my nerves. Sorry to seem like the sent vs. pheonix discussion was useless or compelely unneeded.

ok, lets move on then,im sorry for being a dick =p.

As for Taskmaster goes, I think hes good, as of right now very good. But hes such a straightforward character atm I don’t see him evolving much in the future while other characters do. Im assuming you play him so what do you feel about that?

Wesker is great but honestly he’s a one trick pony. Setups for him have to revolve around getting guaranteed damage which is from either DHC trick or command grab.

It’s cool man.

And as for Tasky I’m starting to feel the same way. It’s kind of sad but unless something changes drastically like being able to chain off swordmaster gaurd break without x-factor or some type of loop/infinite he’s going to be a good character that is peaked at very early in the game’s existence. He’ll probably never drop to being bad unless EVERY other character continues to advance at amazing paces but he does seem to have a lack of potential.

Currently however with unblockables, crossups with j.s, pseudo air-dash, amazing meter building, and some other stuff he’s pretty good.

Something i’ve come to realize is that he’s not that good against BETTER rushdown characters. Mags/Ammys/Wolvies tend run all over him with their crazy dives/tri jumps/and high low mixups.

My friend sits back to see their pattern then he just uses the command counter and gets them every time. Also if they think they can cheese him or think they have a safe free super, they get counter supered. Taskmaster is great against rushdown characters.

Taskmaster can only super counter lvl 3 ammy, and wolvies stuff besides his X-claw or whatever it’s called. He’ can’t super counter any supers from mags. Nothing is a phyical attack for him to counter.

On just waiting for their pattern and just using the counter i wouldn’t advise that since just sitting back would open you to further mix-ups and what if you time to counter when they use their assist? His rush down is nowhere near as good as the current rushdown and he has no “Get the **** off me” move as far as I know.

He can counter A LOT more than that.

True, but Magneto’s main rushdown abilities are ALL physical. EM Disruptor is not going to be used in your face.

True, but you only need to look for their favorite high and favorite low and you can look for it during the match w/o having to sit back.

I agree, that is where assists can somewhat make up his deficiency.

I was meaning the supers of the most popular rushdown characters. not just the only moves in general. I forgot to include akuma and he can super counter his shoryuken super.

Looking for their “favorite” highs and lows is good but it’s all basically comes down to mindgames. Other characters have moves which are clearly a “GTFO” moves likes sents hyper armored launcher, akuma’s tele-dash, ammy interrupt cards, and so forth. He’s kind of lacking a breaher move.

Just watched a Chaos Tourney stream and it turned out just about everyone is still using Sentinel. I think that pretty much says it all about the nerf’s impact. Reports of the robot’s demise have been greatly exaggerated.

As far as Tasky goes, he reminds me a lot of Cyclops. He’s just really well-rounded. He can rush down, do damage, and play keep away. Not to mention he also has full screen punishes that are very reminiscent of Cyke’s lp optic blast xxx super optic blast.

I’m against Wolverine in anyone’s top 5. Why? He NEEDS assists. Ammy doesn’t. Magneto doesn’t. Phoenix doesn’t. I can keep going. Wolverine without assists is solid, but not scary. 1 on 1 chars like Magneto will still make you crap your pants.

Wolverine is too easymode for my tastes. If you know his game, he’s easy to shut down, and he takes a hit like a bitch.

I’m starting to realize this and am using wesker more as his shot to teleport are almost like a mini assist, also wolverine’s assists are horrible

Taskmaster have potential in his mighty swing loops, as the time progress you will become more adept at looping them and building more damage and meter from the same combos.

Against rushdown characters you should zone, they are specialists at rushdown and of course you aren’t going to be better at it. Throwing arrows and using Hulk AA assist when they try to jump be works wonders, they usually are badly hurt before getting a chance to get close to me.

Taskmaster is a jack of all trade master of none. He is not the best zone neither the best rush but can zone better than most and rush better than most so you can attack your enemies weakness.

PD: if you played SSF4, think about Gouken, your normal combat strategy should be keeping the enemy away as long as possible draining as much life as possible, the main difference is that Task is still adept as close combat unlike Gouken.

i completely agree with these. wolvie has alot of small weaknesses that, if you look for them, seem to leave him out of top 5.

granted that hes a momentum character of crazy proportions and he can kill teams… but it comes right back to own him up as i lose wolvie VERY early against the right teams. top 10 character for sure, top 5? i dont know yet.

phoenix
mags
ammy

are inm my top 5 right now… who else makes up the other 2 slots is anyones guess… sent or wesker? hmmm… maybe maybe not, both seem to have teams that they would’nt do well against.

-dime

I wanna bring the discussion around to Viper. Has ANYONE played against a good Viper yet? One of my friends mains her and literally if he hits you ONCE that character is going to die. And as a bonus the 100% combos build enough meter so you’re not actually losing any and it does not require XFC. The general consensus in my playgroup is Phoenix, Ammy, Mag, Viper for top. Last spot is up for grabs.

i would actually love to see that, too bad ur on psn tho. ur friend sounds like he/she has some nice execution.

I haven’t rally seen good vipers so I can’t rfeally say anything on her contribution to a team.

As for people constantly putting pheonix in top3 and top 5 you do realize pheonix destroys the STANDARD and AVERAGE team chemistry that most teams can pull off. think about it. She’s an x-factor hog, meter hog, and an anchor hog. Now granted she does those really well but when nobody else on your team can use x-factor or meter it kind of lowers the overall team abilities.
