MvC3 Actual Balance/Potential Tiers Discussion

Wolverine’s generally pretty easier to use than Magneto. Wolverine players learn one combo and revolve their fight with a lot of dive kicks. Magneto players learn several combos and have some options for getting in on an enemy.

Nowadays Easy to use= Top tier. Just my two cents on the matter. :coffee:

Wolverine has a metal skeleton. Magneto is the master of magnetism. You do the math.

Wolverine is Canadian, Magneto is Jewish. The booth lose in Mel Brooks movies.

I personally agree that if the combo is easier to use, then that character becomes top tier. I’ve used wolverine since MvC 2 and find it exciting to actually see people fight over how godlike/cheap his execution on combos are now. I’ve never used Magneto or played against players that use him much, so it’s hard to say what advantage he has other then that bison slide he has to get in on people or triangle jump over heads. I’m more curious about how capcom will nerf wolverine, less health makes sense but certainly didn’t stop sentinel users too much lol.

If two characters do the same thing but one is easier than the other… both are the same tier, but only one will see lots of play.

I actually would put Zero at top :p. Give him a beam assist and there is nothing he can’t do. For the best *team *in the game, it would have to be wolvy sentinel phoenix. Dante Haggar Phoenix is better and has more synergy in theory, but Wolverine + Sentinel assist + X Factor means 1 or 2 characters insta dead and Phoenix to bring it up. However, Dante Haggar would be better for lesser players (even though Dante’s execution is way harder then wolverines) simply because you would probably be more inclined to keep X-factor for Phoenix and still do well. Plus, Haggar could be second and used as a meat shield.

LOL you cant stop it WHY WHY

What are his unblockables?

I never thought Magneto was the best even when the game first came out. His ground normals aren’t really what you’d call terrifying like some of the other top tiers and although his air movement and air normals are definitely a cut above the other cast especially with assists dealing with him isn’t exactly as insurmountable as Wolverine on the get in. You can still air throw or normal anti air abuse of wave dash ins and he doesn’t have any way to instantly teleport behind you safely like Wolverine which is a specific benefit he has that really nobody else has. Magneto can do a bit of everything but nothing about him yet is terrifyingly scary outside of his air throw game and damage if he lands something.

The scariest characters are the ones with the scariest hit boxes and can close the gap pretty ridiculously fast like Dante/Zero/Wolvie. Gotta have cheap hit boxes and cheap ways to get in IMO to be at the top top. Magneto is definitely one of the best but nothing about him yet has led to believe that he is like top 3 good unless you perfectly cover everything he does offensively with an assist.

all u have to do is press XO and spam dive kicks

Lay the flame carpet down in front of them (not so they land on it, but pretty close) as they come in, call an assist or just have the ball super out as they come in, teleport behind them, player lands in front of the flame carpet as you attack from the air and is pushed into the flame carpet (which hits low). Blocking high pushes you into the low hitting flame carpet, and obviously you can’t block low there.

disruptah!! disruptah!! disruptah!!

fuck that stupid move if i completly lose a character to a magneto player it was generally because i got hit by 5-6 random dash back, dash forward, disruptah’s

also i think the fact that mags has the second best rushdown along with disruptah and 2 equally retarded supers (shockwave and gravity squeeze) and not so hard execution imo makes him the scariest in the game on paper…and that stupid helmet i swear its itimidating as hell

Yeah the main thing about all of that still is that like it’s all good till you have to play against a character with a teleport or invincible command dash move like Dante/Wesker/Wolvie/Dorm etc. Even Zero with an assist plus command dash is eventually gonna get something done against Mag disruptah spam. If you dont have a teleport (mentioned above), special or super that clears you through projectiles (Captain America, Ryu) or super quick movement covered by an assist (X23, Spider Man) you’re going to be eating disruptahs for a while yeah.

Yet disruptahs dont really kill you and especially a character like Dante who has moves that beat projectiles, a teleport that instantly takes advantage of disruptahs laggy recovery and quick enough air dash movement to help force himself in…you can’t ever be blown up by Magneto with Dante specifically unless he gets within throw range.

That’s the main reason why I think Dante is S tier. He always has something for everything. They’re trying to do that? Then you’re gonna do this. They’re gonna do this? Then you’re gonna do that. Cover it with an assist you got a character that runs the game. Unless they get right next to you and you dont have an assist to cover yourself from getting frame trapped you can always DO SOMETHING and in a game like this it helps a shit load to always have SOMETHING you can do. Cuz once the gap gets closed you usually dont have much. With a lot of characters once Wolvie enters a certain spot on the screen their options are limited to somehow block everything he’s eventually gonna do with that best friend of his or jump away and reposition yourself without getting blown up.

My other 2 characters X23 and Doom have matchup specific issues where you pretty much just have to avoid certain situations are get into big problems. Which is why I like Dante because he’s a character that fits my play style really well but I get that matchup/tier boost I need on the team starting out to deal with any situation and then hopefully he’s done a good enough job with assists covering so the back can clean things up. Even if X23 + Doom has to fight through disruptah spam X23 has a lot of aerial movement techniques that backed up with Doom beam can definitely get her in even on Mags like wall jump and her talon attack air specials. She also has the game’s best wave dash to kinda stagger her way in between disruptahs. If it’s just Doom hopefully he’s got some XF3 ready and I can use air plasma beams, air photon shots and hidden missles to cover the approach and help get in.

Sounds logical to me, especially since Capcom didn’t decide to screw him over with obscenely low HP, which is what they would normally do to dissuade people from playing characters with a lot of options.

One of the Craziest things that Dormmamu can do with Stalking Flare in X-Factor teleport across the screen. Since his teleport is safe in X-factor, he gets the ability to confuse people with left or right mixups with teleport. If you block the stalking flare, he can teleport making it difficult for you block stalking flare.

@0:31:00- there is many example of that later on the set.

People need to do that more with stalking flare.

I mean 900k health for Dante isn’t exactly good health. It’s not X23/Zero bad but 900k health being something that will save you from death only really happens at lower levels of play where people drop combos and dont know anything that does more than 700k or builds more than a meter. At the start of the round Dante can easily die to any real combo or XF turn on from Wolvie. The damage potential in this game is way too high for a lot of health to really matter unless you’re playing like someone who has a lot of health and is high tier and the only characters that are really like that are Wesker and She Hulk. Which those characters will definitely be resetting a couple times if they’re up at the start of the round before they instantly kill you without turning on XF or TACing into DHC glitch.

Hmmm never knew flame carpet hit low. Nice

Magneto’s abare is ridiculous.

After a nice 4 hours sessions last night, I’m convinced Trish also has plenty of bullshit Dante and Zero style hitboxes.
