I dont see any reason to do anything with Sentinel but put him as anchor. Doing anything else with his low ass health and huge hit box is asking for trouble. He just doesn’t have the high level technlogies or pressure to deal with characters that are going to run around him all day. Sitting on frying pan with 1.3 million health doesn’t work anymore and that makes Sent hella worse outside of anchor.
XF3 is just stupid, not only for Sent.
I wonder how many XF3 infinites will show up before Capcom realizes they did something wrong.
Level 3 X Factor is legit broken. It’s just stupid. It really shouldn’t be that good. I was hoping the patch would tone down level 3 XF and not knee jerk balance Sent in a way where he’ll be forced to play more randomly than he already did have to play. You can easily have great anchor comebacks against 3 characters with the power of level 2 X Factor. Let alone level fucking 3…jeebus. Level 3 XF is for kids, it’s not for tournaments.
If they’re going to give you that much strength and speed increase it should really only last based on how many other characters are left. If only one character is left on each time and you have level 3 XF it should not last 20 freaking seconds. It shouldn’t last 20 seconds even with 3 v 1.
His assist is only good if you have your opponent crossed up or on lockdown really. He will die fast if he’s hit as an assist, and he’s out there a WHILE. Even the quickest and best assists get caught, Sent Drones is no different really.
And EVERYONE in XFLv3 is stupid, but Sent isn’t too great at opening someone up on his own.
Also, just get rid of X-Factor. I don’t mind it, but it’s obvious Capcom won’t really tweak it, so I’d rather want it gone, than Capcom fuck up the tweaking process.
We agree then? The assist is only useful if you have the momentum because its highly punishable but the assist itself is VERY good, and that alone makes me always have sent as my third character. Also, I feel that if sentinel doesnt have the threat of xfactor is too vulnerable against some characters.
Yeah I agree, I wish they removed it from the game but since that´s not going to happen at least the duration should be halved and remove the speed boost completely. Also I find retarded you can xfactor out of blockstun.
I´m positive that they gonna nerf it after evo, they can´t ignore the big issue xfactor is in every level of play.
The problem is, they’ll fuck up nerfing it, so it might as well be gone. That’s why I advocate people to try and play games against each other without it, to see how the game plays without it.
Also, Sentinel shouldn’t be an anchor. I think he’s a lot better on point, or second. He’s more open for DHC’s, and he’s a lot better with assist backing him.
I personally only play sentinel because of drones so if I was going to play him on point I will just use other characters that will have the same or better stamina and 100x better mixups (and a normal hitbox)
Wesker is awesome on point. He’s also great as an anchor too.
He doesn’t need assists. He is gross with X-Factor. He is gross with meter. He is gross without meter. He only struggles against Phoenix (who doesn’t) and Amaterasu (she’s really small, also who doesn’t).
The only time I’d specifically put him in the point spot over anchor is if your team doesn’t need his OTG assist at all. Even then, you can always learn how to do high/low stuff with it.
Bottom line is that Wesker’s terrific and it doesn’t matter where the hell you play him.
Some of those anchor selections above are just bad. No team wants to be left with Tron or Haggar as their last man standing. Those two have huge gaps in their game that make them a liability when they’re alone. When you play Tron or Haggar, you’re acknowledging that their assist is so good for your team that you’re willing to take that liability. A Tron or Haggar team wants to win the game long before those two are out and alone.
I think you’re best off if your anchor is someone who is both self-sufficient and has a good assist too. Some of these characters work great in other slots too:
Akuma (tatsu), Amaterasu (cold star), Chun Li (legs), Dante (rocking out), Wesker (otg), Magneto (beaam), Phoenix (is phoenix), Taskmaster (arrows) all come to mind.
Only one I’m not really sure on in that list is Chun. She’s disgusting with X-Factor, but I haven’t seen anyone who can consistently execute with her yet.
I’d still be okay being left with Dr. Doom, Iron Man or Sentinel too, though they aren’t as ideal as the people above.
edit: oh wow, thread moved fast while i was typing this up. ah well, it all still works
wolvie, zero, and dog are fuckin dumb characters.
wolvies dive kick makes sentinels frying pan look tame.
heavy + frames on block, ground bounces against air opponents and shitloads of priority and sent has to get nerfed?!?
The influence tournament play has on a game’s design is probably so minimal it may as well be non-existent. These things are supposed to be enjoyed in the home, the fact you can build a competitive scene around them is secondary.
There’s nothing to realize, this is what they wanted. Tho I agree 3 is too good and should be toned down.
I think Sent is a lot better in the number two slot than as an anchor. Wesker seems better as point or number two too, IMO.
Also listing Amaterasu as a bad matchup for Wesker is kind of silly. ammy beats everyone.
This is the worst suggestion for XF I’ve ever heard.
The competitive scene is hugely visible compared to people playing single player at home. Tons of people who played other games seriously are getting into MVC3 now because MVC2 was a big deal for 10 years. It was only a big deal because it was a decent game to play competitively.
StarCraft 2 had the same thing going for it - people who appreciated StarCraft 1 (but weren’t good enough to play competitively) wanted to get in on SC2 from the beginning so they might have a chance. The competitive issues SC2 has are hurting it, though.
Competitive scene is the minority. Capcom wants to keep the casual majority in long enough to buy all the DLC. If the casual majority says Sentinel is broken, make him like he is in the comics then Capcom will gladly oblige. Capcom just needs to make a popular with the casuals character good (looks at Dante).
Your forgetting something, the fact its largely probably that being able to play the game online had a lot to do with it. Playing at home doesn’t necessarily mean single player, especially with this game. Yes the netcode sucks but for those who either were unaware of or had no local scene near them it is a lot better than the situation used to be basically do you have an active arcade or local scene near you? no? then sucks to be you.
No doubt the competitive scene is the minority, but it has a huge influence over whether or not people get into the game, and whether they keep playing. It also has a big impact on the success of future versions of the game.
I’ve noticed this in a number of gaming communities. Casuals may never actually make it to the point a hardcore player would, but they do pay attention to what’s happening there. People like to work towards goals, getting better, seeing a justified reward for putting time into something. If that potential is not there, people lose interest.
Ignoring the very selective nature of your examples, adjusting to the whims of the lowest common denominator is a bad business move.
More importantly what does any of this inanity have to do with tiers?
History shows the fighting game community is willing to play and try to make any game competitive. Fighting game community doesn’t care which character is good, they’ll pick whoever dominates and gives them the best chance to win. As long as the game itself isn’t awful and unplayable, it will be played.
Do you honestly trust Capcom with tweaking XF? They did one nerf to Sent’s health, now the game freaking pauses at random places. I’d just rather they do away with it, because I’m sick of the whining from ALL parties, especially since very few parties even USE X-Factor properly.
Maybe, i should ask a question. Would you (the general people) prefer to keep XF as it is now, or not have the game have it at all? Those two extremes are the least likely for Capcom to screw up
Why is Joe considered so low? I mean he is not the best, but he has decent zoning, good mixup up with his over-heads, potential with slow, and an (kinda) invincible super. What gives?
Somebody gotta be on the bottom. Can’t put everybody at the top. Just because you’re low doesn’t mean you have no potential. Especially this early into the game.
