I’ve heard rumors of a Japanese Zero that’s really good that might actually be coming to Evo but I can’t confirm. Don’t even know his name or know if there’s any videos of him. Most of the Japanese play I’ve seen tends to be of the easier to use characters also since they are trying to take the game in strides also. Eventually though once they get down to cracking the execution it’s going to get real serious.
ok, but who else is good at using zero besides marn?
The only ones I can think of off the top of my head are Ryry who placed 2nd against Chris G at ECT3. Funny enough there’s probably some videos of Chris G’s Zero but he only plays him on the side. Ryry specifically showed off how much of a problem Zero is even if you drop his combos all day. Which of course at the local tournament he was at yesterday he was dropping combos far less. I can link you to some videos of his play with Zero as at this point he’s probably a better Zero now than Marn especially if he’s committed to getting serious into the game again.
ya thanks bro, that would be awesome
Yeah Ryry’s team is the team I have in the mid tier potential team but I actually think it’s top tier material. I’ll just keep it mid tier just to kinda troll I guess until it’s more obvious. The fact that there’s actually people that think Zero plus assists isn’t anything but ridiculous S tier shit is funny.
Go to the last 2 minutes of that video then click on part 3 on the right.
You can probably find the grand finals of ECT on youtube by now also.
As much hate as he occasionally gets on stream, Dark Hokage’s Zero is actually pretty awesome occasionally.
if strider gets in, i’m definetly going to try out Strider/Zero… hopefully that shit will kick ass.
Ryry’s Zero is meh, he was dropping combos all over the place and it was his Magneto that did most of the work. Other than Marn the other good Zeros are Job (who could have knocked J Wong into Losers had he not made the hilarious mistake of calling his Phoenix out by mistake) and Evil Toaster. The good Japanese Zeros are Spinking and Frieda. But quite frankly none of their Zero are remotely as good as Marn’s, that guy might be a jobber and might have lost badly to J Wong, Combofiend and Chris G, but his execution, mixups, etc with Zero are on another level compared to the rest. It’s just a pity that he’s no longer treating this game seriously.
I still like Ryry’s Zero for potential best in the US if he puts any more effort at all in. Either way someone else US or Japanese will step in and crack him out and people will see the power.
Ryry is good, but I’d still stay MArn is by far the best Zero. The mixups, experience, execution he has with the characters is pretty much beyond the other Zero players.
To me, we have seen enough of Zero to know that he’s dangerous but just not dangerous enough to be top tier material. The fact that he has low health and does low damage without combos that can be dropped easily just works too much against him. When he works, he’s tricky and hard to deal with, but the danger of dropping one of his combos and getting bitten badly for that is just too big. Wolverine and Dante can give more payoff with less risk and less effort, while Ammy is low health too but still has a lot of hidden potential with her slowdown and glaive zoning, and I am not seeing that hidden potential with Zero.
From all the Zero players that travel to tournaments and have played on streams, I’ll have to say definitely Marn has the best execution, mix-up, and experience overall. RyRy’s Zero, I wouldn’t say is bad, but very basic from a lot of Zeros I’ve seen.
EDIT: Very cool thing I’ve noticed recently at my arcade.
All of the newish MVC3 players that are doing decent (and better than OG MVC2 players) at the game all believe Zero is a weaker version of Wolverine, and “outclasses” by Magneto. Even SSF4 players that don’t play much say the same thing and consider me “brave” for playing Zero and get surprised by all of the combos I do.
But, all of the players that been playing MVC2 for 10 years told me, “yo, people are sleeping on Zero big time, that nig** is top tier for sure”. I definitely agree with Zero being Top Tier for sure, maybe not the best character in the game (could be), but definetly Top 5 without a doubt. Not making any points here, just decided to drop these observation in here.
The hidden potential is basically in a player that wont drop his combos. He’s already broken. Just need someone that wont drop his combos. Which is easy because compared to other anime games his combos aren’t really that hard. Ammy has low health too but she’s also considered one of the best so you can’t really use the low health argument. There is no risk to using Zero other than his combos. Which means the only person that can put you at that risk is yourself. Execution is the easiest thing to learn in a fighting game. It’s not easy but it’s the easiest thing to learn. Which is why the Japanese are so dominant when it comes to execution. They just practice it more than we do.
Once a smart player gets really good with Zero he will be the toughest character to land clean hits on. Period. He’s basically Ammy except with longer ranged normals and stronger mix up with assist. Ammy has the better lame game but her offense isn’t at that Zero level. Just because Joe Shmoe Arthritis Hands needs his Bayer everytime he tries to do a Zero combo doesn’t mean he’s not retarded good.
When execution is the ONLY THING holding a character back you know you are in shit. Yun’s Genei Jin in 3S execution wise was hard ass shit. It was hard enough that almost nobody in the US had a scary Yun unless they were a big name. Any random Yun you met in tournament was more throw away than the shitty Kens or Ryus. Yet the Japanese and few top US Yun’s got the execution down to a point where you just didn’t see them drop it and if they did they were able to turn it into some bullshit situation where you usually got hit any ways. That’s going to be high level Zero. Dying everytime you get hit with not much you can do about it and if he drops the combo he can easily put you in a situation where you can die any ways. He’s a constant 3S Genei Jin with 4 way mix ups sans command grab (Zero doesn’t need a command grab…).
Not thinking Zero is the best is typical stream monster “I gotta see it to believe it” stuff but if you’ve been playing fighting games competitively at all you know that shit is on the fucking S tier can’t go wrong shit. Fundamentally there’s zero wrong with the character minus a bit of trouble getting in without an assist which is easily rectified by putting him in the front with an assist. Give him somebody that doesn’t have hamburger hands and it’s a wrap.
There is no way THor is the worst in the game… like worse then hsien=ko… thats silly.
at least hsien ko has an awesome assist
I think Thor has a lot of potential with assists. Lots of health with high low mix ups, I could see some stuff. Nothing crazy minus command grab mix ups…but far from something to totally sleep on. His ground normals make me thankful of Dr.Doom’s ground normals I’ll say that much. Them shits are rough to use. Though he’s more of an air normal type I guess.
Any talk of Thor, and if you discuss his abilites in the air from his abilites on the ground…it’s like talking about night and day for Thor. No matter how good he is in the air, he’s gotta come down at one point, and that’s where people will pounce on him. He’s low, but not bottom. Is anyone actually bottom bottom?
Hsien Ko is definitely poopoo bottom. She’s the only character I feel is poopoo bottom. Everyone else has something scary. She’s the only character in the game that’s like 80 percent cons and 20 percent pros.
I think people should take x-factor more in consideration when judging these characters. I mean, there’s no assist or execution or whatever that’s going to make Zero a better character than lvl 3 Wesker for example. Some these characters get X-factor boosts that give them shit better than anything Zero’s got. Lightning loop and all.
Very true, even though people have to consider Zero Lv.3 XF + Sougenmu.
