MvC3 Actual Balance/Potential Tiers Discussion

Not to mention an OTG assist you don’t even need since all 3 of your characters are capable of OTG’ing on their own and can continue to combo with any assist. I would consider Deadpool’s horizontal gun assist to cover your approach (although Katanarama does grant an extra ground-bounce, so there’s that). Your team order is right though; once Wolvie is dead Deadpool and Dante can still DHC glitch to each other and they both have that easy gun DHC synergy, and Dante is a great anchor.

Thanks guys, will look to change assists

Kinda funny the term “anchor” has been so widely adopted, when technically an achor is something that keeps you down, stops your momentum, stunts forward progress, holds you in place, etc. LOL Guess it sounds a lot cooler than, “I play Tron as my kaboose!” or “Wesker loves it in the rear.”

The anchor is the heavy hitter holding your team down from getting blown away by the rape!

That’s how I look at it atleast lol

I don’t know who started the trend for this game, but I know it has the same meaning in relay running. Usually the anchor is your fastest guy.

Deadpool doesn’t have a horizontal gun assist, unfortuantly

That. We also use it in Bowling as a term for our most clutch/coolheaded/reliable teammate.

It seems applicable in this game. We usually save our last spot, be it at the selection screen, by Crossovers, or by necessity, for the one who can work best alone and with/against XF’ing.

Also I think it’s important to be able to DHC out of Bionic Lancer to make it safe on block. There are many situations where you blow up their assist with it but their main blocks it. A safe DHC keeps you from getting punished for it and kills the assist.

I prefer him in that second slot because then he also has some meter stored up (probably) to work with.

I was kidding. English, you so silly.

His only horizontal assist is quick work. :frowning:

**1. ** Nautical A heavy object attached to a vessel by a cable or rope and cast overboard to keep the vessel in place either by its weight or by its flukes, which grip the bottom.
**2. ** A rigid point of support, as for securing a rope.
**3. ** A source of security or stability.
**4. ** Sports
**a. ** An athlete, usually the strongest member of a team, who performs the last stage of a relay race or other competition.
**b. ** The person at the end of a tug-of-war team.
**5. ** An anchorperson.
Kinda obvious where the term comes from, and is one of the rare FG terms which actually makes sense in the context. First time I read XX is a good anchor, I knew exactly what it meant.

i completely agree on the duo thing. and even though a team is always made of three, this gives you the opportunity to build a team with three great duos, meaning that 1 works well with 2, 1 works well with 3 und 2 works well with 3. i think this is a team that can be considered to be one with good synergy, just like combofiends. another good example for this i think is josh wongs team, since dante/mags is awesome, just like dante/weker is and mags wesker also.

Kind of makes me wish that Dormammu had his Flame Carpet or F+H as an assist.

Flame carpet as an assist would be amazing, multiple low hits that work as an OTG and last a long time…

lol. ^^ imagine dante when the next character comes in: lay down carpet assist, force opponent with acid rain to land into it, box dash h, goodbye! ^^

lol yeah anchor, ie to hold you in place or “not to let your stuff get blown away” like not letting a loss set you back/MOVE you away from your goal… your goal is to win, an anchor cements that goal into place… if your first characters/teammates get set adrift or lose focus, the anchor is there to reel them back in.

so on and so on.

@thisguilekillya:

mind if i refer to you as TGK? your name seriously needs an abbreviation!

anywho im no one to be giving out advice about this game, so im mostly just keeping tom myself and adding an “i agree” or “i disagree” here and there. marvel seriously isnt my game.

that having been said, its pretty obvious to me in whatever limited understanding of the game i have, that duos and 3 man teams should be getting more talk than just whos in the top 10… NO character is in the top 10 by themselves imho. they all need assists…

who there best assist is and who there best dhc partner/ can use them as an assist is very important.

i’d like to actually go through the entire roster and write point character down with its best teammate second… there will be lots of arguments, but this thread has become rather tame cause its a generally accepted whos where as far as single characters are concerned.

best duo so far “seems” to be wolvie with phoenix: best xf1 and 2 character in this current metagame, combined with the best xf3 anchor if shit doesnt go right for wolvie. the team isnt perfect as it needs to find a middleman that has ALOT of weird qualities such as good offensive assist, ability to be played well without great need for an assist, doesnt need to use meter for decent damage… etc etc.

who do you guys think would be a good middleman to tokidos team besides sent? maybe tron? … gustaffe might not have great synergy with berserker slash unless tron teleprts to wolvie… dont know how that works. doom might be decent with either rocks or beam.

dante seems really good if only because he builds so much meter and does good damage to boot… but im not convinced about his ability to do well without assists… but i guess thats meh since EVERYONE needs assists besides lvl3 phoenix.

i think either dante or mags, since both of them have decent assists for slash crossups, are great on point without assists and can do decent damage without using meter, while also being good batteries. as far as dante without assists goes, i don’t think he has that much of a problem to play on his own. he can build good meter even form a distance and he can definetely open people up, he has way more than just boxdash h. i can’t really see tron in that spot, because i don’t hink she plays well without assists. you can’t battery phoenix only from blocked jump h’s. but i’m not a tron player, so i may be wrong with that one.

The real qusetion is what the fuck would Charge characters be like on the Hit box… could you imagine SSF4 characters on that thing? …

SHIT.

It’s a MvC3 thing with the way the game reads inputs.

this mechanic doesn’t work in ssf4, since the engine doesn’t register two different directional inputs at the same time. the one pressed earlier has priority. that said, it is not a hitbox-specific problem, it’s a problem with mvc3. you don’t even need a hitbox, it also works on some gamepads. SSF2T HDR had the same problem after release, but it got patched pretty quickly (unlike mvc3, for some stupid reason).

EDIT// Mr. X was faster. ^^
