I’ll definitely miss Jago too. Definitely one of the most creative and consistent players in the scene.
Back to the cheap talk…I mean yeah sure you can say Ammy, Zero and Dante can be up there for cheapest because they have direct tools (extended hit boxes/projectiles) that Wolverine actually has trouble dealing with. Wolverine’s normals and specials bully most of the other cast but he has to respect their shit for once because they can somehow throw around their normals and specials with less impunity than he can. At the same time…none of them can viably take off 2 of your characters with impossible to drop level 1 XF combos. The fact that Wolverine can XF guard cancel, air throw you or just land some random hit and have the ability to threaten 2 of your characters life with easy is way too cheap. This is considering how hard it is for most of the cast to simply amount an offense on him.
I definitely think Zero is definitely one of the other cheapest characters in the game and I would say he probably even clean beats Wolverine. With that said…it’s not like Wolvie can’t fight him and it’s definitely not like Wolvie could take ridiculous advantage of how little time it takes to kill off Zero’s 800 k health with XF1 (hell he probably wouldn’t even have to use it on him) and still have 7 to 10 seconds of XF left to kill off the next one.
Well the point of this thread is to rate characters and at least the way things are looking now I dont see any reason to not have Wolvie in at least top 3. Very little to manage very much to win. Decent to average players aren’t going to win just because they’re using top characters. During the 3S days the Cali players sent a Chun Li player to Evo that was basically paperweight even though he was using the number 1 or 2 character in the game. Doesn’t mean Chun Li wasn’t number one or 2 and he wasn’t at least making a good decision in protecting himself with a high tier.
Give me a reason that Wolverine is hard to learn and doesn’t get too much for too little and I’ll get back to you. As stupid of shit as Ammy, Dante and Wesker have I can pretty much guarantee you they all require a bit more work to make cheap than Wolvie.
Wouldn’t Dorm be able to slow down Wolverine? I have seen flame carpets stop him in his tracks, plus floating bombs pretty much put any character on the defensive.
The problem is you dont wanna just slow down Wolverine. His ability to just get that one charge in and ruin your character and possibly your team is too great. Dorm could definitely keep him at bay but it doesn’t mean he’s not going to get hit. When it only takes one hit or one hit and a reset to kill somebody you’re going to take the odds of someone being lame and just go the fuck in.
Tatsu blows up flame carpets, and many other things that might stop Wolverine. That’s why people hate the best friends forever combination. But then it’s not like it’s the only assists that works well with Wolverine, Tokido was blowing everyone up with drones and ClarkeyD have done extremely well with Tron flame backing Wolverine. So why best friends are being singled out, I have no idea.
It’s not like Wolverine has no weaknesses, characters with very good air attacks and air dashes like Zero and Ammy can exploit Wolverine’s lack of air dash and give him a hard time. He also has poor assists and doesn’t have the best range in this game. There’s a ton of great Magnetos, Dantes, Weskers and Ammys out there, yet great Wolverines that are close to Tokido’s and Wong’s level are rare as hell. Twisted Jago and ClarkeyD count as great Wolverine players but I seriously can’t think of anymore Wolverine players that can rip their opponents and OCV at will.
you can jab wolverine out of berzerker slash. If hes at that range where it may or may not cross you up, get to mashing jab and watch him stop in his tracks. Of course that doesn’t work if they got an assist backing them to blow you up. so bait out the assist and if you got meter, slam on the team super, X-factor, back dash and taunt as you watch it die. Without an assist wolverine has nothing. Stay at the range where light berzerker slash wont reach and mash jab. push block him if he tries anything cute and get back to mashing jab then laugh as the wolverine player realizes he can’t herp derp and just might have to L2P
It’s kind of like how you can jab blanka out of his blanka balls
Wolverine’s weaknesses are way too trivial when you count what he can do. Sure Wolvie has trouble with Zero and Ammy but can you imagine how much trouble other characters have against them compared to Wolvie?
The whole reason why there are no Wolverines on Tokido’s or Wong’s level is because nobody is as good as they are period when it comes to fighting games in general. There’s a lot of good characters in this game which is the general reason that not EVERYONE plays Wolverine even though they probably should. A lot of the lower level players are picking Wolverine because he’s easy but of course only the top players are going to show the most out of Wolverine because their smarts plus the absolute insurance of having Wolverine on your team is a tough battle to win.
If that’s all it takes to beat Wolverine then I should definitely retire X-23 and just pick up Wolvie.
Lmao deadass, I don’t care about a character being a bit overpowered, I don’t care about a character being noob friendly, but i care about a character being noob friendly and overpowered, shit gets boring. If wolvie was a bit less effective or required much more skill, or had more risk to his cross ups, X23, felicia, jill and maybe even chun would get more playing time and develop tech.
Flame carpet is good, and Dorm has some other good tools for keeping Wolverine out. They aren’t as threatening as Wolverine’s approaches though, and you have to be right a few times in a row. Wolverine just has to be right once.
Wolverine is like Mike Tyson in this game - “Everyone has a plan 'till they get punched in the mouth.”
That said, a plan is better than nothing :lol: I think he does alright compared to many in the cast.
