Yeah that’s why chicken blocking is such an effective tactic because airborne moves’ frames can’t be determined just by reading the guide and going “oh so it’s going to be this on block everytime”. Another example is Dante’s hammer. Dante’s hammer gives you plus 20 on block which means if you do it low enough to the ground (especially a TK’d hammer) you can’t even XF guard cancel punish it unless you have a ranged command grab that activates fast enough (like Felicia’s L or M grab). There’s technically 5 recovery frames but they’re really hard to take advantage of if he does it low enough to the ground. If he does it higher in the air it’s XF guard punishable by most normals and can be whiff punished with tight timing also. TKing hammer low to the ground makes it virtually unable to be whiff punished. You just have to wait for it to whiff and try to hit him during the long start up.
go into training mode, set it to all guard and try it for yourself.
I tried chicken blocking and I did it in a tourney and got me killed. It would help against Magneto no doubt, but gets me into trouble against Wolverine if I try to chicken block his super jumped dive kick.
Even trying to throw Wolverine on a blocked super jump dive got you blown up? The chicken block technique only really works if he dives relatively close to you any way. It can help in some tight situations if you’re in the corner but it is kinda risky midscreen I’ve found. Now I just XF guard cancel or pick someone that outpokes or has an invincible move against it like Dante. Most people play Wolvie first in teams any ways so Dante works as my character counter to him.
ok wat does chicken blocking mean this is poppin up on all da forums lately
blocking while jumping as a way to evade high/low mixups and to a lesser extent, frame traps.
in other news i just found out that trons jumping M (icecream scoop) beats that nigga wolverines dives pretty free… so air mmh into random combo is nice.
-dime
Yeah you need a character with extended/projectile hit boxes that easily convert to combos to deal with Wolvie. Otherwise have Tron or Haggar backing up your character or good fucking luck. I would assume her j.H isn’t bad either but I’m sure j.M is even better.
In my experience Tron j.H tends to trade or get beaten depending on who was higher in the air when the moves started.
a lot of iron man’s air normals can beat dive kicks out the air
You really think Haggar is better than Tron? I do hate that Tron gets blown up by cross ups and teleports and other weird shit, but Haggar seems so punishable, and the losing red life thing means you cant spam it ALL day. Sometimes.
The chip damage is fine, the problem is that there is no way for Keepaway to build enough meter to keep Rushdown characters out. Chris, Arthur, Akuma,Dormmamu, Doom all have fantastic chipping damage. The problem is that they don’t have the meter to keep that shit up forever.
They could balance meter building, by making it character specific.
They have weaker projectiles, the problem is that Wesker/Magneto/C.Viper/ Phoenix/Dante/Ammy/etc projectiles are too fucking safe. They have better recovery, they can cancel it into a special move, etc. Not to mention they have superior mobility, and they are superior batteries. Add the fact that they can outpoke other zoners, and they will win all of zoning wars
No… slower recovery/start up on their projectiles, and they need to be unsafe. Magneto has the best beam compared to everybody else due to it’s startup.
Haggar and Tron both have their own strengths and weaknesses as far as their assists but generally they’re both your go to assist if you’re tired of blocking shit that’s nearly impossible to block on reaction. Haggar has more invincibility frames during the active portion (60 frames) and can beat cross ups but he has a longer recovery period and Wolverine basically doesnt give a fuck about haggar cuz he can just mash on that c.L. Loses to other crouching normals but most other characters have to be more careful because sometimes their crouch normals can force them to stand up into the lariat during the recovery.
Tron can get crossed up or low poked from a distance from some normals but generally the actual period you have to hit her before she becomes inactive/invincible is very small. It is punishable on block for a very short period if you have a fast enough normal also. Considering the opponent isn’t already pressing shit at you after you block the fire. Wolverine can also mash c.L on Tron.
I just can’t justify putting either of those characters on my team just to have something I can mash on people’s offense. They’re just too boring/shitty for me when I have to inevitably use them. LOL. If I were to put either of them on my team it would definitely be some Richard Nguyen shit where they’re just second building meter for Phoenix in the back or generally just 2nd so they can have at least one assist helping them on a standard team. That playing Haggar/Tron by themselves shit so you can whore their assist out with 2 characters is garbage if you have to end up playing them on point in the end.
I would say a bigger issue is that most of the alleged zoning characters can’t cover the space above them well if at all. Additionally the number of characters with fast recovering teleports really hurts zoning.
Most teleports definitely need to be nerfed. Or they should at least re-evaluate who needs a good one (i.e. not Dante, Wesker or Phoenix).
Is Daigo’s team weak in the health meter wise of Akuma, Wolverine and Dante in your guys opinion?
Teleports are kind of Wesker’s whole thing, though. He’s like Nightcrawler, but in a douchy outfit.
But yeah most characters shouldn’t have teleports. It’s just a lazy way to give them a way in.
Maybe not better but he does have some pros over tron
More invincibility
Blows up crossups and teleports
Ages to hitconfirm
Better scaling
Better as a combo extender
Works as an anti air
I guess it depends who you pair them up with.
How about better anti air assists?
I remember some dude running modok, ammy, morrigan with her DP assist before the game came out and it was pretty effective laming out marn (obviously before people knew how to play). Ryu, morrigan, captain america, viewtiful joe and Skrull (tenderizor needs to be safer some how idk) need ridiculous priority on their assists and invincibility on the way up.
Hagger and Tron aren’t enough AA assists to have in the game and they need character buffs on point to not become useless as anchors if those others I mentioned get better.
I think placing Modok anywhere near a low tier is stupid. He has such a good keep away game, and he has great hypers/projectiles.
Yes. Better assists in general. It gives you more options, and it’s a relative nerf to level 3 x-factor.
And keepaway should be more viable than it is.
Phoenix and Wesker actually have the slowest recovering teleports. Wesker has the most total frames on his at 11 startup, 20 recovery. Phoenix is 10/20. Dante and Akuma have iframes on theirs that others do not, along with no recovery.
