MvC3 Actual Balance/Potential Tiers Discussion

Fun fact: when I said average, I meant that in comparison to his other characters. And using a character well now means not using day 1 combos? Some day 1 combos are the best you know.

^^^damn lol@nini

Thats not even Chris’ best assist, much better off using grenade toss.

Chris’s assists has three functions. Grenade Toss is anti-air, Gun Fire is horizontal coverage, and Combination Punch is combo extension. All of them are good depending on what you want to do with them. If you actually learned how to use his assists, you’d know this. You can’t just pick Grenade Toss and profit. If it doesn’t fit the function, you failed at the select screen.

i actually dont know why ive not seen that zero combo before in a match

unless its magneto nobody wants to put some execution in

What

Yeah. Shocking isn’t it. Ambiguously drop a mine while a Magneto is too busy tri dashing and he’ll run right into it. Or before a Wolverine dive kicks and he’ll get blown up by it. Early Chris users knew about this but not surprising that you wouldn’t since you most likely don’t use Chris.

I’m not even saying picking grenade toss assist will profit. Grenade toss is a lot more helpful than Gun shot assist, imo. If your using Chris, he shouldn’t be your assist character anyways.

I know Chris and his assists as well. Been putting up with him for as long as MVC3 been out.

Recently, I have conflicting issues concerning his assists and his overall help to a team and to find out that Chris doesn’t add much a team. Unless your building a team around him, which I don’t recommend doing as I tried it already. Putting him on the second/third slots and still didn’t get fully what I want out of him.

I can say that Chris fits best on a team that uses meter where he is usually the battery and point. On point, he either dishes out damage or takes the damage, leaving him as the meter builder.

On top of that his assist don’t do much but serve specific situations and functions, which can be replaced by better assists and better characters (sadly).

Right now with Chris on my team I build meter with his zoning/keep-away and using jam session until he dies or sometimes use 2 meters for crossover counters into Sentinel’s hard-drive hyper other than that his assists helps with nothing except extending Dante combos for extra damage and maybe help Sentinel’s ground game.

I’ve never seen so much damn Redfield talk in this thread. It’s interesting I guess.

Well I guess people are tired of “Wolvie is gooood” tier lists so might as well.

Wow. You got flamed enough for posting that to me but I need to tack some more on.

You’re the idiot. Atashiwa didn’t win because of that assist, he won (and wins) because he is the superior player. That assist is Chris’s best assist and that’s why Atashiwa chooses it. Just because that’s HIS best assist doesn’t make it a good assist. Lol.

EDIT: His best assist for Atashiwa’s team. To help with cross up teleports etc. etc.

On another note. I have a lot more respect for Spider-Man after doing some play testing tonight. I still stand by him being very assist dependent but his UWT reset combo is devastating, can be performed any where on the screen, and decently easy to perform. His high mobility can create a decent high low game as long as he is covered by an assist. Interesting character that has gained more respect from me.

I like what that online player Atashiwa does with Chris. If he ever lands an opening throw or air throw, he pops X-Factor and kills the character and builds like 3 bars in the process. Then he can just spam supers whenever for the rest of the fight.

I also like seeing him paired with Haggar and Phoenix. Normally Haggar is weak to low-profile lows like Wolverine :d::l:, but landmines seem to help a bit there. Additionally, normally both Chris and Haggar are liabilities against Phoenix teams and running Phoenix yourself kinda gets around that. The biggest issue I see there is that Haggar (like Sentinel) is pretty easy to hit, meaning Phoenix is pretty easy to snap-in if they manage to roll through Chris super quickly.

Atashiwa is a very good player. He demonstrates very high level execution while online.

proves online isn’t just for scrubs and for fun play IMO. I am not an ONLINE WARRIOR or anything but I certainly think that it is a perfect medium for training. Not just training for match ups either, training for anything. Also, I think it SORT OF proves the netcode isn’t absolutely trash. I honestly never have THAT big of an issue with lag or online timing. Before I play offline, I spend a good amount of time making sure I have re-adjusted to the timing though.

Keep in mind this is netplay in Japan, a nation around the size of California with the overwhelming majority of its population concentrated in its southern half and which has the best internet in the world on average. Geographic centrality + high bandwidth make it far easier to have a good experience playing online than in most other places. Not to say that everything is perfect there, but it’s not really fair to compare Japanese netplay experience to that in most of the Western world, especially in North America where players are separated by so much land.

True, I shed a tear everytime I try Magneto’s ROM online or get hit after a teleport that i swear I blocked in time

It’s netplay from Japan to the US where Vidness is. >.>;

THANK YOU! lol.

And sure Japan to Japan matches probably have superior net play versus here in the US but I still have no problem in 95% of my matches here. I understand it creates a execution lag but it’s very MINIMAL (in my cases) and with a little practice before a locals/event/tournament you can remedy any bad habits.

I mean after all Viscant is amazing at this game and he credits online for his growth.

Well, that makes it more impressive, then. I wasn’t trying to suggest that netplay isn’t beneficial. Lots of people act like it’s exactly like playing offline and cite japanese online play as their proof, though, and it’s not really a fair comparison.

Atashiwa is actually from Houston.

Yeah I like how its assumed people with Japanese names are from Japan. LOL.

The netcode is garbage though. When I played my friend from the UK in MVC3 any combo with execution I had to throw out the window. If I landed wave dash up OTG to c.L/M shit with Wesker that was an achievement in itself. Even the 2 people I played from the US it was just…terribly rough lag. Like to the point where you can feel the lag pulling your gameplay down. Then I play Arcana Heart with them and that shit is actually pretty smooth.

Some people may be able to play in the netcode but the fact that on average I can play better connections with people in SFIV (and that game doesn’t really have the most awesome netcode either) means something is wrong.

Yeah, to be honest, the netcode in this game…seems horrid haha. X-23 is a pain to use online and when playing dudes on my list, I just had to give up on anything execution intensive-wise. Later on, I literally just gave up playing online. And then I play the same people on SSF4 and it’s smooth. Dunno how people actually execute on there.
