MvC3 Actual Balance/Potential Tiers Discussion

I don’t think Skrull is really good, I mean, I consider good top 15or so, and he’s just not there. However, Tron Fire/Drones help him out a lot.

^dude you must be playing pretty scrubby weskers. viscant is the one you wanna refer to when talking about wesker because that guy pretty much instituted wesker 2.0: 50-50 mixups edition. I’d still be stuck doing standing gun, jump back gun all day if it didn’t occur to him to capitalize on wesker’s amazing oki game lol

viscant built his team to have good synergy wesker + beam and teleport is A tier. put the work into skrull and he’s deadly

Jago makes a compelling point. I joke that a certain White Champ’s best character is Tron, but the truth is he has a really good Dante/Task and his Tron is good enough to clean up the leftovers if his first two don’t finish it. Even if he’s using her for the flame assist if he couldn’t play Tron at least reasonably well he’d lose many close matches that boiled down to anchor vs. anchor.

You honestly do not know what you’re talking about. His Magneto seems to do more work because he usually OCVs people with Mags, using Zero to finish up the DHC glitch.

I was at NCR and I played Marn in a quick MM. Also faced him in teams. Part of that was a Zero mirror. While I’m a little rusty on Zero tech because I play a different team now, I have done a lot of work with Zero against some very good players. Saying “above average” is BS. Easily the best Zero I’ve played. I have a pretty good understanding of footsies and mixups, he had extremely good footsies (even high as fuck). As an example, while it’s not readily apparent on stream, he knows exactly when and where to throw out 2M, which is one Zero’s best pokes and one of the best pokes in the game. That alone won him like 2 matches against me. I won’t pull out the stream monster card but you really do have to play him before you assess his overall skill in MvC3, he’s beaten some great players in tourney. Same shit I get ticked off when people pop off on FChamp not being good and relying on Phoenix. Play him a couple of matches and you’ll quickly see that’s not the case.

And Akuma > Sent on point, especially as anchor. Coincidentally, I think both Marn and I switched our anchors to Akuma instead of Sent because Sent sucks as anchor, even worse with the health nerf. Sent gets instant overheaded by the entire cast for free and is a giant moving target with glacially slow normals. To lose to an anchor Sent you must have severely fucked up. Sent has giant hitboxes and armor but his mixup is nonexistent outside of corner and while Akuma has shitty normals he can poke with fireballs and tatsu just fine. Akuma’s advanced combos do just as much damage as Sent’s, but he’s much faster and harder to hit. Hard Drive is a great escape/punish hyper but Akuma has demon which does the same thing for more damage. Also, Akuma beam hyper is 8f startup (faster than Sent’s 9f cL) and can punish whiffed normals from full screen. It’s a gdlk punish and can be thrown out on prediction/randomly and still be fairly hard to punish without your own projectile super.

To add on to what u said i saw a vid recently (i think it was mike ross gootechs vid) Marn also said he ONLY used sent for the assist he also went on to state that if he was down to sent he fucked up in the match at some point

Increasingly I am starting to feel that people are using Akuma only for his assist too. All I see when people are down to Akuma nowadays are beams for chip damage, and once they run out of meters they are almost always screwed.

as evidenced by the complete lack of activity in the akuma forums on here. sigh I was hoping my thread would drum up some interest in people actually learning to play him, but I guess not. #akumaisassisttier

I know EXACTLY what I am talking about. I know the intricacies of Zero and what he is capable of. I can’t help it if Marn is under performing on stream but that is where it matters (my motto after all are results are results). His Zero is GOOD but it isn’t at the full potential of the character. Zero players are at a minority on streams and Marn gets credit for having him as a signature character. Don’t pop off at me because you’ve played Marn. That doesn’t prove anything. Do I think I can beat Marn in a Zero mirror match? No, definitely not but that isn’t what I am claiming.

im learning akuma and was lookin at the thread for tips but its basically dead…i personally feel he has a lot goin for him but ppl arent tryna see him for more then a tatsu assist which sucks he has potential to be up there in the ranks of the tier list

well said man, hopefully in the coming months we’ll be seeing more akuma on point and not just an assist.

It’s in the damage scaling section of the wiki. It’s right in the middle of the all of the other damage scaling info.

Using H scaling for air specials, I’ve gotten the same on paper results for Morrigan combos I was working on as I did in game when I successfully hit the entire combo. Having theory match up with practice, I assumed it was correct, but I admit, I haven’t specifically tested the scaling in game.

I honestly fail to see how Akuma is higher on the assistless tier list than Sentinel… people complain about Sentinel having bad matchups with most of the top tier characters but it’s not like Akuma has a higher chance against Wolverine, Wesker and Co. Akuma is faster and harder to hit than Sentinel, but with his pathetic range (one of the worst in this game outside of Joe) he has a much harder time hitting people than Sentinel. His wavedashing is fast but he can only move fast on the ground, because of that his attack is rather one-dimensional. Then because of his low health he can’t even adopt a more defensive style like Ryu.

Hmm in the guide it says Akuma’s dive kick is +9 on block. I wonder what you can do with that…

the startup is ass though, but I’d like to experiment with it using assists. hmm…

Find a third dive kicking character for your Wolverine team such that you never have to stop pressing down + M/H no matter which character is on point? In all seriousness though it’s a perfectly functional combo starter.

After reading his section in the guide, I want to put him in my team and see what I can do lol! I’ve seen lots of anchor Akuma’s but none of them are really exploiting what I saw there.

Wolverine/Trish/Akuma sounds pretty legit lol. in any case, I’m still relatively new to frame data. according to the frame data I have on akuma, his j.:d:+:m: divekick has a 14 frame startup. what’s considered fast when talking about normals? I know for sure that 5 frames is pretty fast, like wesker’s j.L and akuma’s cr.L.

edit: wesker’s j.L, not j.M lol

5 frames is pretty fast. I’d say it’s average though. Some really fast normals are Amaterasu’s s.L (3 frames) and c.L (4 frames), X-23’s s.L (4 frames), c.L (3 frames), Felicia’s s.L (4 frames), Wolverine’s s.L (4 frames) and yes I abuse his s.L lmao

Whoa. The way they changed shoryuken is scary. I DON’T LIKE CHANGE! i need some mvc3 updates or so help…i will rant on what needs to happen…

Edit: even my avatar is gone. lol. cool how u edit ur posts now.

yea his divekick is slow but that doesnt mean its without its uses, like it was stated above its a +9 on block, thats a lot of frames to work with especially for mixups, I honestly feel akuma is like ryu (chris G’s) he is underrated and played but in good hands he can win u games and win them well
