MvC3 Actual Balance/Potential Tiers Discussion

Yes, MvC2 becomed an elitist game… The game becomed in a “If you dont play with Magneto, Sentinel or Storm you’re screw and you dont have a chance IN HELL to win”…

Thank god all the people who joined in '10 and '11 are here to set people straight and tell us how fighting games were meant to be balanced. Oh good and even an ‘elitist’ argument rolling in here, this thread is awesome now. Why listen to the good people when we could echo chamber our bitching?

For the life of me, I cannot figure out what this community wants. Some of us want a broken game and others want a balanced game, and still others want a “brokalanced” game. And every person who wants one of those thinks the people who want the other are total scrubs or casuals or even worse…SSF4 players (oh noes!).

This is starting to remind me of the early days of the Starcraft 2 scene to be honest. Everyone was screaming about balance and telling everyone who disagreed to L2P. It sucked. I hope that doesn’t happen in our community.

As far as the patch goes, it’s fine. I can’t say I understand people complaining that it breaks Sentinel. There are characters with less damage potential AND less life than Sent and people play them.

Also I wish people would get away from the idea that his large hit box means he “needs” more life to be balanced. His large hit box is a weakness. It doesn’t “need” to be directly counter acted by some proportionate buff in health. I say, look at Sent on the whole and then ask yourself honestly how much health he should have when compared to other characters.

Sent has the highest damage potential across all situations in the game. Meter, no meter, corner, mid-screen, long range, close range, air or ground it doesn’t matter. Sent can end you.

He has tremendous arial mobility due to his awesome fly.

He has, almost inarguably the best normals in the game. hyper armored S, super armored B and cr.B, linkable command normals that beat many character’s projectiles and can be combo’d from. All this stuff has no hit box off of his body so they cant be stuffed unless you are right on top of him.

Even his simplest B&B’s do around 600k+. Even beginners can pull his most damaging combos off.

He gets the largest overall buff from X-Factor in the game with a strength buff on par with hulk’s in addition to a significant speed buff.

A TK’d Hard Drive beats everything and can be linked infinity times if you have the meter and go to corner with it.

Amazing space control and anti-air.

So look at those attributes and with no previous knowledge, what would be a fair health number? Is 905k really too low for all that power? Compare that to other characters with around that much health. Do they have that laundry list of things so far in their favor?

At that health number he is in league with Viper, Dante, Hsien-Ko, Deadpool and Spiderman. Can you naysayers honestly tell me Sent isn’t AT LEAST as well equipped to bring the pain as these 5 characters?

Sentinel has the most complete package of effective, easy to apply tools in the game and gives the player maximum damage for minimal effort. Even with that said, I could handle him at 1.3 million life. He wasn’t game breaking in that state IMO and he isn’t broken now. The main difference is that now the burden of skill is on the people playing Sentinel to make fewer mistakes and play better rather than it being on those playing against him.

Orly? I wasn’t aware that you had to create special “anti-Sentinel” technology. I thought that was just called learning the match-up.

I had no idea Peter’s team was designed specifically to deal with all those Sentinel’s at FR.

seriously! he was classified as a tank now he’s just a slow moving hunk of crap with low health that does high damage but who cares about his assist or how much damage he does when he’s still slow as molasses but had his health dropped…

i heard on a stream that sentinel was capcom’s favorite character in the game
so this makes no sense for them to just castrate sentinel if it was they’re idea to put him in the game

if it was like that, they’d have this patched in when shadow battles were included, or maybe even before. even the pre-release tournaments had him at that high health, there is no possible way people would have missed it for that long

Different things take different lengths of time. If we get some more balance updates in April, I’ll be all for this collective panic here, but right now it seems like people losing their shit over nothing and jumping at shadows.

Unno why people think Low hp = ass.
All it means it play more carefully.
Just can’t use his assist blindly anymore and see him get out safe. Use his assist Cover his ass don’t let them have a chance to punish it. If they did punish it. Chances are it was a bad assist call anyways.
