MvC3 Actual Balance/Potential Tiers Discussion

The thing with Viper is this. We know in theory and in some practice she can decimate a team. The question is, do we give her the pedestal that we gave Dhalsim in MvC2? Dhalsim, with perfect execution in that game, has some shit on par with the freaking God Tiers. Problem was for him was that you’d have to be a freaking robot to use Dhalsim at his highest level consistently during a match.

Dhalsim also had much harder execution barriers than Viper. Does she get the benefit?

Viper isn’t THAT hard lol

No, of course not lol. But again, at least until someone can actually step up and use her efficiently throughout an entire game (sorry MarlinPie, but you drop way too much crap), she either gets a pedestal of theory, or she gets Low Tier. It’s one of the two.

He drops things with her and still takes top 5 at majors. >.>

Define Majors. I don’t call locals at the Break a Major. Good comp there sure, and MarlinPie IS a beast. But 80% of his wins against good comp was because of Mags and Ammy. MarlinPie’s Viper is sick…but there are days I wonder if she’s holding him back.

Maybe he was referring to Guard Crush 16? Idk if that is REALLY a major though. I haven’t followed MarlinPie exstensively.

I wouldn’t call that a major. Spooky even called it a local. Gets great comp though, and I’m not calling MarlinPie ass or anything. But for tournament progression, I’ve yet to see proof that VIPER is the reason he got as far as he did, rather than him just being a very good player, and having Mags and Ammy backing him up.

I know, I was saying he may have been referring to that. I agree Guard Crush isn’t a major but it has the best competition for a local. Probably better than WNF overall.

I think Marlin wins as many games with C.Viper as Magneto and Ammy though.

Meh, I’m not one to pay attention to anyway. I’m ass at the game, so my opinion doesn’t mean much.

But yeah, Guard Crush overall is probably the best local in the country for straight competition.

Maybe you’re just godlike, bromethius.

Honestly Wolvie is the only character in this game i’m kinda despising at this point. The sheer lack of work and the retarded priority on his divekick kinda disgust me. I’ve never been able to air throw him on tech because people just mash it and the vulnerable hitbox must be in the little points on his mask. Have to beat Wolvie by rtsd and with his good airthrow and stuff makes stuff hard.

Amaterasu was there till I found some good options with mag’s to shut her down.

Top 4 imo are Wolvie, Mags, Amaterasu, and Wesker

Don’t see that changing any time soon.

Seriously everytime I see a wolverine commit to a dive kick unassisted its Xfactor cancel to death. He is that much of a problem to me. If your having trouble with him I suggest the same. Just get him out of the way when he does his gay ass shit.

but cant he just cancel into his own xfactor? or is he generally still up in the air?

-dime

He is still in lag when he finishes the dive kick, and how many wolverines are actually thinking when they do all their silly braindead shit anyway? Its almost a flowchart…no wolverine is gonna XFC a divekick since they do them so liberally.

^I think its the smartest thing to do in some situations anyways because it gets rid of a huge problem, hopefully your setups for chars coming in are good so you have a good chance of opening up their second char still with lvl1 xfactor on which is close to or death. It doesnt guarantee a win because the come back factor is so strong though

My sparring partner plays she hulk wolv akuma, whenever I take out wolverine I win at least like 95% of the time, but actually catching that bitch when he has invincible mid screen mixups air grabs to death, easy ass instant overheads and retard rage, is incredibly hard. Most people I see with wolverine that is their crutch and they proceed to get blown up afterwards. Seriously after playing a great wolverine you will not have much problems with anything else in this game, its that damn infuriating.

I also wouldn’t look specifically to MarlinPie for “where Viper should rank”. Marlin’s one of my favorite players to watch (has been since Guilty Gear), but his decision making is questionable. I think he himself has said that he just doesn’t like to block - more fun to go for reversals / “if i hit this just right…” / risky stuff that lets him keep his combo movie rolling.

Lets just quit referring to top players when trying to prove points in general

I dunno man, it’s not like you can confirm anything off whip stance except for from 5M / 2M and that’s somewhat difficult. Actually utilitizing the moves of whip and then turning into damage is pretty much impossible. At best you can land some whip hits and then use an assist and continue the combo, but all the whip moves prorate terribly. Cold star isn’t very fast and they have low projectile durability. The recovery is also pretty bad on the normals. Stance switching from reflector / glaive isn’t too hard in combos but it really doesn’t add any more damage than just finishing a reflector combo, unless you’re in the corner and loop okami shuffles (which doesn’t do much damage anyway).

I mean I played the character since day 1 and can pretty much do everything with her. She’s not bad like I said but I think people overestimate what she can do. Whip stance is damn near useless and really all you’re doing is picking in close fighting with the reflector or longer poke range with the sword… its nothing crazy. She can combo off her throws easily, but the damage isn’t even that great off of them. I’m just not seeing the hidden potential that’s there. Just a solid in close character with low health.

I still say Mag/Dante/Sentinel is the best team in the game. Two rush-down-and-crack-you-open-into-hugeass-combos characters, one touch-you-once-and-you-are-dead character, DHC glitches out the yang, two great assist characters, great zoning potential and possibly the best anti-Wolverine combo in the game (Mag Disrupta spam with Sentinel drones.) I don’t think the team has a major weakness other than the low health pool.
