Well it’s still happening whether you want to accept it or not. I think Haggar, Sentinel, Doom, and a few others are awful but I put them in their spot because of how they’re doing in actual tourney, not by what I think of them or how good one of my random friends does in casuals.
Tron and Haggar are terrible when they’re left alone as anchor. Tron is a fine point character with assists, like, well, practically everyone. I Imagine Haggar is fine on point with assists as well, but I haven’t seen it, so I won’t speak to it either way.
Tron can work on point. You just don’t see it because people are picking her for her assist not to use the character. You are already seeing a few players really make tron work as a character. Haggar had his 15 minutes of fame with his “respect the pipe” week or two. But yeah he just needs help outside of being an assist.
Kerahime was doing a good job making Tron work on point with Sentinel assist. So much hit boxes on the screen you’ll have to get hit by something.
@DuckStrong:
Unless players like Chris G and Yipes are dramatically outclassed by NerdJosh who they sometimes beat sometimes lose to I feel that your point isn’t accurate. At this point in the game people still get hit by Tron/Haggar occasionally and if they do it’s as bad as being hit by any good character.
I personally think that Haggar is unplayable against a lot of teams and that Tron is very close to that as well, but someone losing to them is not necessarily being outclassed as it is making a stupid mistake which every player regardless of level is doing at this point in the game’s lifespan.
I feel the more that people play against Tron and Haggar the less they’re going to run into highly obvious things and their worth will deteriorate. Haggar with assists actually has decent mix up as shown by some videos Timothy put out from option select. Every good character in the game (With the exception of Wolverine) can completely zone out Tron/Haggar.
I think Haggar should be #2 on teams. That way the point character gets the benefit of his assist and then when Haggar comes in he has an assist from #3 to help him get in like Sent Drones, Hidden Missles… basically somethign that makes the person curl up into a little blocking ball for 2 seconds.
Problem is people who do use Haggar have him at #3 and when/if he comes in he i naked. Which is painfully horrible.
Timothy’s Haggar on the Option Select stream has been fun as hell to watch. He makes comebacks sometimes when he is only down to Haggar and has to kill 2-3 characters still lol. Oh yea his Doom is so good that for the below average health characters if you get hit with the Haggar assist its touch of death.
Seriously a Haggar Assist TOD… thats wicked.
I disagree completely, but whatever. Everyone is entitled to their opinion.
Couple of fun matches from Timothy’s Haggar

no way is she OP as Dark. Lowest Health + deteriorating lifebar, and she has slow fireballs that are easily punishable on reaction. Of course the healing shield will give her back health, but if someone catches you with a random beam hyper it’s useless. I dont see how your point of meter building all of a sudden makes her godlike.
In a game where you can lose entire characters off of one wrong 50/50 guess, I see what Capcom was thinking when they implemented XF. And for however much people bitch about it, the game wouldn’t automatically be better off without it. Assists are such a huge deal, they’re almost as useful to determining the overall worth of the character as how the character plays on point. And when you’re without one, you’ve essentially lost without XF.
The only characters that can muster up some type of respectable offensive pressure unassisted are Phoenix, Dante, Wesker and maybe Wolverine (and I do mean maybe). Anybody else shouldn’t be able to touch you if you play correctly.
Not sure if you’re agreeing with me or disagreeing with me with your reply.
I pretty much agree with your points, I was just stating that I liked King Zeal’s idea of a slightly toned down X-Factor that would make it less “get out of jail free”, but maybe that’s the point you were debating?
Not much discussion about Zero either. That fuckers hit priority and meter build is pretty bullshit as well, not to mention some really odd change ups and hit confirms. Only thing making him somewhat even is his low health, but I still feel the character is pretty damn insane.
I don’t understand how Dorm can be anything but top 10. Against a good chunk of the cast, the dude is literally playing a game of battleship except he can see your pieces. He can literally touch every part of the screen in front of him. He has slightly above average health so he can take a hit. Teleports that can put you either In front/behind and above your opponent. One of the only if not only characters you can play with a strategy against a cracked out Dark Phoenix. He has a great airthrow that can lead into big damage near the corner. Solid tri jump offense. Flame carpet is a ridiculous move.
Oh yea and if you use X Factor early to cover a mistake or kill a character then good luck with him in broken mode level 3. You will eat chip and you will die. Seriously his chip is beyond insane.
Sure some of his normals are wonky and his projectiles dont have the best startup… but the fact that he has that damn teleport to get in if Mags, Wesker, or someone else is trying to cheese him out makes him dangerous 24/7 no matter where he is on the screen.
zero isnt getting discussed much for the simple fact that not many “pros” play him everybody knows hes really good but there isnt a steady stream of zero’s boding people like phoenix, wesker, wolvie
For a zoning type character Dorm definitely has a solid offensive game as well and has the probably the most gdlk cross up overhead of any of the air dash characters.
I have him as #11 but he could easily be swapped with Sentinel for the #10 spot. The reason I have Sentinel higher is because of how many more Sentinels in tourney their are placing highly compared to the like three (fLoE, Filipino Champ, Masta CJ) godlike Dormammus we see placing highly in/winning tourneys. I know how good he is though, I have to play against an extremely lame one almost every day with my She-Hulk teams :(.
I posted some of my thoughts on him a few pages back. But basically, most of the time"you mix-up yourself" and he has a very hard time getting in if without an assist.
don’t forget he has the games absolute best anti-airs
Yea Black Hole is a great assist for a combo continuer and for people who can go left to right quick.
With my Wesker/Dormammu team I will cheese with gun wait until they get a few character lengths away from me, Black Hole, teleport L or H. So cheap but so damn effective. BH is bomb because it literally just appears and they really can react to him coming him especially if teleport as he is coming out.
Cr. M is a great anti air too. If I can predict a magneto tri dash I will just bop him outta the sky, launch, air series, tower, burn to cinders… bye bye eric (or close too)
Oh yea he also has flight lol
Don’t forget Flame Carpet unblockables.
