Dante’s Hammer has 24~36ish frame startup, depending on how fast you are at inputting the second qcf L. The first 8~20 frames (again depending on speed of input) are not invincible.
Also, the move is +14 from teleport or normal jump height. The extra blockstun on this move means that it’s a free Advancing Guard for the enemy. It’s definitely a strong move, but there’s a lot of misinformation flying around about it. Check out the Dante Frame Data thread in his character forum for more info.
I guess that makes sense because technically you have to cancel killer bee into hammer which means you wont actually receive the invincibility regardless until later into the move. It’s definitely best to use the move lower to the ground yeah.
Big damage combos are great, but that’s not enough to be among the top characters. I don’t think he’s as bad as the west coast pros placed him. I don’t think he’s top 10 either though.
Doom is top 10 in the corner. Which is why he’s not top 10. He’s slept on on point but not top 10 slept on. At best he’ll just be the best character in the game as far as versatility between on point and having 3 great assists. Whether you want to use him on point or as an assist he’s got the strength to get shit done. Which specific emphasis on his on point ability to “get shit done”. Unlike Magneto and Dante who “rape your face”.
Overall I just dont see him being top 10 unless people just find his assists so good that they throw him on the team just because the assists plus his powers on point are that good. Magneto and Dante will always be better than him when it comes to just who’s going to be the scariest out there on point.
Doom is a corner machine and though people like Clockwork and Timothy demonstrate his mobility it is still subpar. It just looks could because it’s doom moving that fast. I know Doom has mid-screens that do insert high damage here but the point is that he works better in the corner where he can constantly apply pressure without fear of push blocking. Doom > Storm though and he is top 15 for me probably.
He just doesn’t have the options to open you up like some characters do and I still haven’t seen an assist that just REALLY complements him.
Doom never has to “fear” pushblock. He’s the only character in the game that can actually move through it with basic dash movement. Which is why they dont allow him to cancel his dash into normals. They let him cancels his normals into dashes instead so he can be the only character in the game that can do such.
Anybody who puts someone else in the corner can blow up their pushblock because they wont get pushed away in the corner. Even during mid screen you can’t pushblock a Doom that’s baiting your advance guard or he’ll just move right next to you any way. You can push block his his regular normals (not his foot dive he’ll still dash in) but once he lands he can dash back in on anything you push him away with. If you totally mistime the dash you’ll get pushed out but as long as you time it right after they pushblock you’re moving in any way. Nobody does that yet but yeah that’s what he can do.
He has a harder time getting in than Magneto but when Doom gets fleshed out once he gets in he’s going to stick on like glue even without an assist backing him up. The whole reason why Doom does the most damage in the corner is because if you start push blocking him in the mid screen you’ll end up pushing yourself into the corner where he will kill you.
Almost all good characters have tools for dealing with advancing guard, Mags can fly cancel, Dante can bold cancel, Viper can TK cancel, Doom’s just happens to be easier to execute and likely better for on regular block. I think Doom’s mix up is incredibly slept on, he has a lot of really weird properties on his moves such as jump B (Super jump ADDF B) and the like which can set up some incredibly ambiguous things.
That all said, I think Doom is at the bottom end of top 10 but nowhere near the top 5 characters
DevilJin, while I agree that his ability to dash cancel ground normals is useful, you shouldn’t overlook the fact that he can’t super jump from a dash. This ends up hurting his mixup game because you’re limited to box jumping, which is alot easier to read.
Yeah I mean that’s one of the main issues with him getting in. You have to get in in a much more obvious less scary manner than Magneto. Though once you get in and force them to block something you’re good to go. Once you get in you can easily do a dash jump cancel which goes through advance guard and then start running the super jump M’s and foot dives. If you have him towards the back and have XF ready you can back throw them and end them quick with XF sphere flame combo. If they’re already close to the corner if you hit them with anything they’re done.
But I’m going to keep it 100%. There is no reason for Hammer to be that stupid and spammable. +20 on block when you TK it and it’s invincible. Nah that’s too much. Just give it one hit of super armor and reduce the frame advantage. The move will still be good and you can’t spam it that way. It has so much advantage that Dante can just dash right back in ur face and TK it again if you pushblock him. It’s very silly as it is.
