In the face of the retardedly broken shit they let slide in this game, I respectfully disagree.
Armored Senpu-Bu isn’t even that good. There, I said it. She stays on the screen for so long during it that if your opponent baits her and tosses out a punishing super - especially Hyper Sentinel Force or Hailstorm - she’s toast. You can achieve the same (arguably better) results with either Tron or Haggar, both of which hit harder, build meter, better have more health, and at least in Tron’s case are more mobile.
Oh yeah, that’s another thing. Hits from Hsien-Ko in her armored form build no meter, which is another drawback of the assist.
I plan on sticking with her because I actually enjoy the character and her playstyle, but I’m not going to sit here and deny the fact that she’s one of if not the worst character in the game.
Honestly all they have to do to buff hsien is give her regular MVC3 character movement speed and buff her damage. Viola, viable character. What were they thinking making her slower than she was in VS? I know she’s a zombie but she didn’t have to move like one.
Wesker S being negative one on block is a big deal during scrubby ABCS Marvel but when the level of play gets higher who is going to be throwing around S when the opponent is on the ground any way? You’re only going to be using it for air to air situations or run the risk of getting guard cancelled on. Unless of course you’re running Phoenix on your team which then only then gives you a legitimate reason to use S on the ground. It’s such a moot point though when like Wesker has 90 other better safer things than his S. You’re always trying to c.L, c.M to bait advance guards and hit confirm any way so Wesker S mash will only be a big deal in this early dumb shit Marvel. After that…Weskers wont be using it on the ground because well they wont need to and it puts them in unnecessary risk that Wesker’s 90 other good moves dont.
The best Weskers I’ve seen coincidentally are the ones that dont run S after every block string or after randomly dashing up. Push guard him out after the block and now he has to reposition himelf. If you have XF stocked guard cancel and blow him up.
You really should be hoping a Wesker is mashing on S because that’s like the easiest thing to deal with. You ever had to deal with anything else Wesker does? Did you notice it’s like 3 times harder to deal with? Yeah…
Even Captain America’s S is only negative 4 on block and pushes him outside of the range of of just about any 4 frame move that could punish. Let’s talk about actual effective shit of characters and not scrubby ABCS pushblock shit.
There’s a lot of things wrong with her, but buffing her movement speed would be a great start. It is by far her most glaring issue. Most Hsien-Ko players would be happy for a significant movement speed buff even if it didn’t come with a damage increase.
Speed buff and make people not randomly fall out of her combos and I’m good.
I think the S issue is more about the end of strings and hit confirming DevilJin. Where inputting 2B, 2C, S on block or on hit is a favorable situation, so he doesn’t need to make different decisions in order to remain safe.
Exactly. Imagine playing Iron Man and doing the same thing above. You’d end up with a -13 S.
This situation just makes Wesker’s strings more simplified.
How favorable is that situation really? Why would you ever want S to come out during a hit confirm? Cuz it might hit some scrubby people? I guess. If it gets blocked you’re getting pushed hella far away. Getting hit by Wesker S is day one scub Marvel. All of the tools Wesker has to hit people and you wanna S on the ground during a block string? Just keep the string shorter and not do something that’s going to push you ridiculously far away from the opponent after they inevitably push guard the S.
The S doesn’t do anything to make Wesker better. Good players are just going to sit there and block during a string. They’re not going to suddenly go “oh he did c.M, s.H to try and confirm and it got blocked so im going to mash on buttons now cuz that might get me S’d”. No. They’re going to sit and wait for the S and then push block it out or XF guard cancel it. His s.H is plus 2 on block so strategically you’re better off stopping at s.H then going for the S because now you’re at plus 2 so people can bitch even more about you. It’s also cancellable unlike S so you can call assist and start another mix up. He already gets a year to confirm off s.H and it leaves him at better advantage on block.
Half my wins are from people still mashing ABCS on block and me just punishing with a full combo. Sentinel players are the worst with that, cr.M S on block, oops I lose!
In a block string you gain more gauge with an S thrown in there and it’s safer than ending with his 2B by a very significant margin.
Not to mention I just call Tron if you block S, then teleport or rush in command grab.
Talking about no assist, no XF wesker is kinda pointless you know.
2.C is plus 2 on block and cancellable.
You can do the same call Tron teleport shit with s.H and get more mileage.
Even Viscant, being as technical and scientific a player as he is, remarks on Wesker’s S being useful to continue strings.
Yeah that’s one thing I can’t agree on. s.H is completely better for the same purpose. I’ll take plus 2, more range, multiple hits and cancellable over something that’s not any of that. s.H beats most low attacks also if used outside of a block string whereas using S outside of a block string can be low poked by any body that isn’t the size of Hulk.
Perhaps it is but a lot of time it is natural, even for a higher level player, to continue the string. It just happens, especially at intermediate play. There may be some more science behind why it’s more useful. I don’t know all of Wesker’s workings. It’s just a great string ender compared to others and it helps you build a little more meter.
S+Assist also works as a ghetto frame trap for people who wanna XFC punish or just punish it in general. You don’t press buttons when you know you’re at a disadvantage. You do when you know your opponent is at a disadvantage.
This. I can’t count how many people have been dumb enough to press a button after S only to get flamed by Tron, then comboed.
You can do ghetto frame trap with s.H which is much better and much safer with a lot of assists.
S builds like 6 percent meter at most and s.H builds the same meter. Whenever you hit the opponent with Wesker you can build plenty of more meter than mashing S on block will. There’s nothing wrong with using S other than sticking with s.H is completely better. You’re pushed farther away after S especially after push block and you might as well get pushed away with a normal that gives you advantage instead of disadvantage. Especially if you dont immediately have an assist available. Nobody is going to be pressing buttons once you get in with Wesker any way so you might as well use what keeps you in advantage and not pushed away with disadvantage. Whether you follow the s.H up with assist or not you have more options off the s.H.
My question is who is dumb enough to actually press buttons after a blocking S from Wesker? There’s no reason to since that ends his string and he should have been pressuring with c.L or s.H instead so he would have more options to cancel and generally have a better set of moves to poke with. Anytime you block S that’s pretty much your cue that Wesker can’t do anything else other than call assist. Once that S comes out on the block he has to wait a long while before he can actually do anything and you’re better off using normals where you can do specials or supers in the entire duration of the move. I’d be more worried about blocking a cancellable normal from Wesker because there’s way more options for mix up off a cancellable normal than one that pushes him far away and leaves him neg one on block and is not.
In order to get people to press buttons, you have to do things that appear unsafe, but are actually safe. No one’s gonna hit anything after the Stand H, because in their minds, the string isn’t finished.
Sometimes, it’s best to use the move that’s worse on paper for a mental advantage.
However, it’s always best to mix it up and keep the opponent on their toes. Cancelling from low or Stand H into Teleport +assist is definitely good.
I’ve actually been working on Stand H+assistxx whiffed command grab, then do low A or kara command grab.
