Chrisis I watched your whole match but a majority of the situation you illustrated was you backing your opponent out (superior footsies and play on your part) and then just mixups in corner for big combos. Honestly it didn’t really matter if you were Viper or not IMO, you could’ve played any decent character and did well there since your regular skill was sound enough regardless of how much you go for the more humble angle.
What are yalls thoughts on best Anchor characters in the game, and why (besides Phoenix / Dark Phoenix, obviously). Im having a little trouble deciding on my anchor for my team. Thanks yall
Akuma, Sentinel, Wesker, Wolverine come to mind. Dormammu as well if he’s stocked with meter.
Some unorthodoxed yet surprisingly good anchors are Jill, Zero (does amazing chip with his shadow into projectile spam), X-23 (usually kills two if you have XFC + meter because she has a two for one deal with her level 3).
Mags is crazy as anchor, just crack fast and shockwave does unfair chip.
Akuma (hurricane kick and beam), Mag (disruptor to fast), Dorm (lord of chip), Skrull (a touch die), Ironman (u have to be good), Phoenix (well u known), Sentinal (230%), Arthur (chip annoying daggers), Spencer BIONIC ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM), Amaterasu (low hit box semi free chip hyper), X-23 (dirt nap), Wesker (speed and teleport also gun), Chris Redfield (gunshot of death), Morrigan (mirror image)
What about you win some matches with Modok ?
Anchors… anyone who can build atleast 1.5 bars in a combo to spend…
Dante Holds leads alright, but can make HUGE comebacks off of anything
Taskmaster…ok at coming back but holds leads like super glue…
Dormammu with meter is DUMB reguardless… great at holding leads
Akuma great at both holding leads and coming back
Wesker has comeback factor amazing stupid good
Ammy…can come back and can hold a lead really well
Spencer (has stupid scary comeback factor
Doctor Doom Can seal a lead for good when played well
Sentinel is Good for holding leads, ok at coming back
theres my 2cents if its worth anything
Amaterasu actually gets very little benefit from XFC dude. Her speed isn’t any better, and her dmg boost is the lowest in the game. I’ve also never heard anyone mention being scared of Chris/Skrull/Ironman in XFC either. XFC 3 makes every character in the game better, but this list needs to be reserved for the characters who get so brutal that its nearly impossible to deal with their dmg/mix-ups/chip while in it.
I’d probably say the 5 scariest characters in XFC 3 are Phoenix/Sent/Akuma/Wolv/Mags.
Spencer is way too valuable as a DHC glitch starter to ever put last.
By that logic, Magneto should never be put last.
Agreed.
Iron Man’s been “nothing wrong with him” since the game came out. Unfortunately, this is marvel, so if you don’t have a good amount of bullshit, the character is not that good.
His tri dash is good but not super fast
you have to hit confirm every chain with crouch L’s or you die which ruins damage and sometimes puts you out of range,
he has the worst beam hyper in the game, so it’s practically useless for killing assists.
Unibeam is meh on point
and you constantly wish he had mvc2 smart bombs.
one of the 5-6 characters that have no part of the DHC trick.
I understand he’s “not that bad”, but he’s not that good, either. He’s being ranked between 20 and 25 in many lists… who is he better than? Certainly not deadpool, felicia, or x-23.
Same thing goes for Joe… sure you can do allright with Joe, but wouldn’t almost anyone else be MORE effective?
Overall, they did a good job of making sure every character has a little something to work with (overall high damage is good) so you think a character is playable. But some are obviously better than others. Especially CapAm and Hsien-Ko, they fucking suck.
Why would you ever put Magneto last?
a lot of people don’t know that iron man has some of the best hitboxes out side people with a sword and even then better in some cases better
people bring up taskmaster c.m as being god like , iron man’s is faster has better range
he has short commings , but imo he’s better or on par with most mid teir , just requires thought unlike most the top teir
the problem with ironmans “great” hitboxes is that they kind of arent. sure they have great priority but they hit weird spots on the screen or have bad followups:
jump neutral fierce hits the top of the screen so it loses alot of spacial control, unless done on its way down where it will that “sweetspot” that dooms mvc2 laser controlled… problem is that trying to use it that way is very slow and just not great in most situations.
so, he has to use jump down+h instead. this hits that sweetspot but since its the angled version it loses alot of range, thus actually losing alot of its priority in the process since its kind of slowstartup.
his m and down+m on the ground: down+m is hailed as a great poke cause of its range and priority… but thats misleading. if down m connects from max range ironman cant followup with launcher at all, in fact i done think he can hitconfirm his launcher from anything less than half that distance since he has to chain into h and then launch. this makes its “effective” range, bad.
his standing m is a decent move, also with great priority and its wiff animation is very fast unlike crouch m. but it loses alot of its effective range from the need to combo into launcher as well.
anyways ironmans weaknesses mostly stem from his launcher problems, his lack of pokes that cover multiple options, and generally the fact that everything that he has is kind of watered down. this means that he has little spam factor so he has to be very precise with both his movement and spacing as well as his choice of moves… sure it can be said for all characters, but when it comes to ironman it seems to take on an especially important significance.
then you throw in the stuff that renegade said about multiple light attacks in his ground strings reducing his damage, his combo vid “BNB” air combos being VERY hard to do, and his beam generally sucking on point (doesnt knock down or knock back, user has to choose between horrible startup or horrible durability)…
and then the picture becomes clearer and almost all of his “good on paper” stuff seems not so good, if not just straight up bad.
i aint saying hes shit, i dont think he is. i just dont think hes all that great, but i do think there will be some people able to make him deadly in the future, but i dont think he will ever be considered lower top or higher.
best 2 things about ironman are his assist and his triangle jump. theres not a whole lot more to the character that is actually bordering cheap… and cheap is what marvel is about.
-dime
he can launch on max range c.m , I’m not sure why it works but by all means it shouldn’t
you are not ment to use air h on reaction , its not going to work unless. they do something stupid , I’ve stop a few derp kicks from wolvie using the up versions , you can do this move 4 times in the air as a sorts if wall , its more for people to run into and getting a magneto amount of feirce into a combo I’t trades with.zeros f+h so its still pretty solid
but he needs to play perfectly to work n that works.against him big time
lastly hit confiming isn’t that much of an issue you should only hit with l first if you need the fastest in that situation or in a high low the chances are if you can land l you can land m then cancel into fly if blocked
but I agree he is not cheep
If you’re asking because you actually need an anchor, as opposed to just wanting to discuss strong anchors, I would first look at what your team wants/needs in terms of assists and synergy, and once you have a good idea about that, THEN question if you’re picking a “good anchor.”
Some simple examples would be Josh Wong’s Felcia or Justin’s Doom (on his Zero Felicia Doom team, which I know he rarely uses anymore). I doubt they were thinking, “who’s a great anchor? Hmm…” but more picked an assist character that makes their first two characters really shine.
Decide what your team wants/needs, then cross check that against the answers everyone gave you. Hope that helps
I have won some matches on Online.
I know that Hiro who uses MODOK in tournaments has won some match as MODOK.
I don’t really see how that disputes their TOOLS as an character.
Joe’s like SSFIV Dan. Everyone just thinks they’re bad based on their last game.
SLOW is a very unique situation for most people (Ammys really doesnt last long enough to be considered and isnt used much) and he applies pressure in different ways than most. He doesnt have to hit confirm shit really, everythings safe on block and blocking it leads to more mix ups, besides that fact that hes downright…GOOD with gustaff fire. Other characters are only more “effective” in a sense because Capcom decided to give Joe (and morrigan) like, THE worst damage output and quickest hit stun deterioration.
Thats why I play him  and because…cmon hes Viewtiful fuckin Joe.
I’m gonna say either the battery characters or the beam hyper characters.
The ones you put on point to get things poppin like Wesker and Magnus are just too good. Not all characters that you start with like Zero or Logan but the ones that battery hard and don’t need an assist at all to be effective. Wesker especially, one magic series to Samurai Edge kills just about everyone.
And then the obvious beam characters, not as good as Wesker or Mags but are pretty annoying too. Notice how almost all Akumas are 3rd on teams unless theres a Sentinel. Ryu with 5 bars and lvl 3 XFC is a pain. Not too much comeback factor entirely but he has some. But then those like Dormammu, Taskmaster, and Deadpool (but he’s underused and probably a better point.) are great anchors.
But if you’re deciding for your team specifically, are the ones on your sig your new teams? I played you like two months ago and you had a team with Storm and Morrigan on it. If you play those teams still, Storm is great, Morrigan is stupid good as an anchor. If you’re using the teams on your sig now, the first one is good the way it is. I think the second one you should switch to Zero, Storm, Doom. If you watched the Cross Counter MvC3 vid with Viscant, he talked about the DHC glitch a bit and that it’s actually better if you don’t start with the one who initiates, but the one on the other end of the glitch. Zero is a battery, and you can do nice combos to start, end with a Rekkoha and DHC into Storm. Now that you have Storm, she’s also a good battery and can build meter, and now you’re set up to DHC glitch anyways. It’s great if you can have 2 characters that can go back and forth, DHC-ing one way, and DHC glitching the other.
However Idk, I don’t like Doom as an anchor at all. I mean, he’s very damaging by himself already so lvl 3 XFC will make him a powerhouse, but his offense is limited, even with his tricks. He’s great for zoning and keepaway which is why he’s a better point character, but then for you it’d make your team weird. When I used Doom I had him as my second because Taskmaster was a way better anchor, but I guess for you it’s the most fitting.
